Officer W. Morris sets bad image for Law Enforcement Officers AVOID * Lauderdale-by-the-Sea - Not Visitor friendly* I will be writing many reviews on this incident and the city of Lauderdale by the Sea. No response from parking enforcement or the Mayor. On Friday January 7th I had to make a business trip to Ft. Lauderdale, I have never been there before although I have lived in Florida my whole life. My family is a Law Enforcement family. My sister was a Commander for New Smyrna Beach, my Stepfather was a Captain for DeLand PD. And my son is 10+ years with Orlando Police Department. After finishing up my business in Ft. Lauderdale I decided to have lunch and wanted to see your beautiful little city; it came highly recommended. I was told to try out the Aruba Beach Café. I finally found a parking lot-El Prado, and I saw an officer who appeared to be writing tickets. I waved and got his attention to ask if I was allowed to park there. I told him I had never been in this area and said "parking was hard to find around here isn't it?" Since I noticed he was writing tickets I asked if I was allowed to park here he replied "sure this is a public parking lot". When I asked him why he was writing tickets and if there may be designated parking spaces possibly for the hotel/condo and is there anywhere I shouldn't park. He repeated "this is a public parking lot you are allowed to park here" I walked away thinking that was nice. I found a place to park a few blocks away from the restaurant... and it is monitored... NICE! I decided he was probably looking for expired tags and went to have lunch. Knowing we had a good 3- to 3.5- hour drive home we rushed thru lunch. When I got back to my truck there was a citation on it! What the heck?! I asked if it was okay to park there… I looked around for the officer with the red plastic rimmed sun glasses but could not find him. My husband noticed a “Pay by Plate” sign up in the trees as I was pulling out into traffic but I did not see it. The officer could have said something – anything but did not. I would have paid to park had I known. I am very disappointed if this is the way you treat your visitors, Stay far away from...
Read moreI recently visited Fort Lauderdale by the sea and overall, I had a great experience. The beach itself was well-maintained, and there were plenty of great restaurants in the area to choose from. However, the one major drawback of my visit was the parking situation.
First, let's talk about the positives. The beach itself was beautiful, with clean sand and crystal-clear water. The surrounding area was also well-maintained, with plenty of facilities like showers, restrooms, and changing rooms available. And as mentioned, there were plenty of fantastic restaurants in the area to choose from, with a wide range of cuisine types and price points.
Unfortunately, the one major negative of my visit was the parking situation. On weekends, the beach can get very crowded, and finding a parking spot can be a real challenge. Even on weekdays, the parking situation can be difficult, with limited spaces available in the immediate vicinity of the beach.
That being said, I still had a great time at this beach. If you're willing to plan ahead and arrive early to secure a parking spot, or if you're willing to park a bit further away and walk to the beach, then the experience is definitely worth it. The beautiful surroundings, great restaurants, and well-maintained facilities make this...
Read moreLauderdale by the sea has its own charm. An incorporated small town with a population of only about 6100s, and only a little less than 1 sq mile area. This town has about 2 blocks of restaurants at the end/beginning of Commercial Boulevard, shops and many parking areas. along A1A they have more restaurants and shops. The restaurant is concentrated around the square, where people relax at the city-provided Adirondack chairs. There were activities around the square during the season, i.e. dancing, festivities during Christmas, fireworks, etc. This town is one of the gem in South Florida. I really appreciate the most recent changes with the sidewalk and restaurant's outdoor seating. It created a better atmosphere for the pedestrians and restaurants' patrons. The city hall is located a block north on A1A, often they have concerts or shows.
From the recent hurricane Nicole, the pier got damaged, now it is closed to the public. Not sure what the future holds for this beautiful place. I hope the city will build one better than the Pompano Beach pier.
I love the Lauderdale by the sea beach too, good time for walking, watching the sun or moon rise. For divers and snorkelers, they may do it around the ship wreck not too far from...
