Just had our second birthday party at Main Event Lewisville and will not be doing another.
Scheduled a party for 12 kids. Agreed upon the rate and cost. Showed up, set up our table with decorations, all was fine at the start. I informed the host that we would have additional kids showing up which turned out to be 19.
Kids started bowling. We had some issues getting our lanes sorted with the additional kids but eventually sorted it out. After bowling, our host began bringing over pizza and drinks. Clearly the host was overworked as some kids didn't get drinks till almost half way or longer once they started eating.
The host was very concerned with going over the cost with me for the additional kids. Not a problem, but we had 3 different conversations about the additional cost before even finishing the food, this was happening when kids were waiting on drinks and pizza. I agreed after the first conversation to the cost. I'm not sure what this was about, perhaps they've had bad experiences in the past with people not wanting to pay at the end.
After the party, this is where it got really bad. We agreed in our initial contract that we would get bowling, two games of laser tag, and one hour of video game play. There was a conversation with the host a few hours before it was time to play the video games that we would need additional one hour cards for the extra kids. The time came to play, we did not have the cards. Even worse, half the cards we were given for the one hour play weren't working at all. Our host brought over a stack of 10 dollar cards where we had to stand there and hand out to the kids when they ran out. Further, we told the host immediately that we needed the cards fixed and the additional cards we paid for with the additional kids. A few kids were crying because they weren't getting to play. Our host disappeared and forgot to bring us our cards, even after we told him we had some kids crying.
We never received what we even paid for. I pad over $700 dollars for 19 kids and didn't get what I paid for. I told the manager that afternoon, I didn't want anything from them, I just wanted them to know how disappointed we were with them and the experience.
Here's what you get at Main Event. They charge you for the kids AND they charge you a "Service fee" for someone to take your call and book the party for you! I was charged over $60 dollars for someone to quote me a price for a birthday party and email me a contract. They're not actually doing any hard work for that. Secondly, why are customers paying a sales persons salary? Nonsense..
You show up and for what you are paying, you get to use a table for your party, a bowling lane for a little, a few rounds of laser tag, and some games. They're not really there to help you with this stuff, just there to charge you for using their facility. Hey it's a business, I get it, that's fine. But give us what we pay for and actually employees who can assist us with our party. Aside from getting drinks and food brought to us, the parents did ALL the work. Next time we'll go...
Read moreWhere do I start?? Went here on the Saturday night after black Friday with my wife. It was pretty quiet for a Saturday night since everyone was out shopping. This is the worst entertainment center I’ve been to. First the cashiers ask for a tip on the sign paper - simply for charging you. We did an arcade for $35 and thank goodness that’s all. The women’s bathrooms were disgusting. Toilets a mess, paper everywhere, and god forbid you want to dry your hands because the dispenser literally gives you 3-4 inches of paper towel before it stops. Games didn’t work as they should. Some were missing balls causing you to miss the whole game. Some were extremely delayed, having to wait several minutes before they started. Good thing my wife was waiting for me to finish my game or she would’ve missed out from walking away. The plush claw machines don’t grab well. I had several where it grabbed but the claw was way too weak to hold it. Same thing happened to the guy before us but luckily a worker helped him get it thankfully (he had a child that of course wanted his bear). I didn’t bother asking because we were about done and don’t care too much about stuffies. After we finished we went to grab prizes with the tickets we had. Not a ton of selection or even good selection. Most of their smaller candy/toy selection was barren. We were gonna grab a bite to eat and a drink after. The bar top was filthy so we didn’t want to sit there. All the sit down tables had either a reserved sign, were dirty or they stated to see the host for seating. So we did. There was no host and had a sign to see the bowl desk for seating. So we did. There was a guy in black shirt not doing anything and the cashiers were talking and laughing amongst themselves, which was fine because there was no one in line. The guy in the black shirt could’ve helped us but we had to wait until the cashiers were done. They told us to seat ourselves. Not one person who saw us looking for somewhere to sit asked us if we needed help. After all the back and forth we sat down at a booth again, no one came to help. Not even to greet us. It was not busy. There was one couple at the bar. And maybe 2 other tables - one was about done and one was hanging out. We just went ahead and left. Maybe if the staff were better paid by Main Event, they would care about their jobs more. Let me be clear - no one was rude but no one gave a f*ck either. A clear reflection of management or lack thereof.
We did not try bowling, laser tag, or VR games so I have no comment on those or their service.
Save your money and go to Dave & Busters. Better service, working games, decent prizes and a...
Read moreTLDR: poorly managed, games are not maintained, don’t expect to redeem your tickets, expect to only successfully play about half the money you spent, and don’t expect to be able to track down an employee to help you. I spent $140 for the arcade and being generous I’d say I got $70 of value.
We got there at 8pm and the store to redeem your points/tickets was closed the whole night.
Below are all the games that were broken in the arcade (I’d say roughly 50% were broken or didn’t function properly)
connect 4 hoops- swiped 2x for each player, basketballs never released
skee ball - most lanes missing 2-3 balls so you can’t finish the games
Ghost busters red gun is broken, the game thinks you’re aimed all the way up the whole time
Air hockey - both the ones on the lower portion of the arcade don’t keep track of score correctly One of 2 on the upper floor was missing the puck so you paid for nothing since you can’t play & the other one the air feature barely works
Speed of light game - the left side of the game 5 or 6 of the lights are burnt out so really can’t play the game since you have to tap the ones that light up
The claw machine right next to the redemption store one of the claws is super loose, I looked close and 1 of the screws is almost all the way out so I doubt anyone can win on that one. Make sure to play on the one south of it as it didn’t have that issue.
Football game, first swipe deducted credit but never released the balls, worked on the second time but it deducted for both swipes.
Monster drop game - took the credit off the card and the game never started / worked
Deal or no deal- none of the buttons for the cases work, so you can’t even play. You pay for nothing.
The redemption feeder for the cards you win in the slot like games also doesn’t function properly- gave me the 50 tickets for the SpongeBob card but not the second. Decided not redeem the rest and keep them.
Receipt machine doesn’t work or is out of paper so after you pay to charge the card and it asks if you want a receipt, you can’t get one since nothing prints
I saw only 1 working employee and he was in the very front at the reception desk. Another person was mopping.
It’s super suspicious how this Google page has hundreds of 5 star reviews from brand new Google accounts with 1 or 2 reviews ever written. This place has shady written all over it. I have nothing against main event, just go to another...
