I have heard so many wonderful things about Gibson’s Bar & Steakhouse Rosemont for such a long time. Many people I know have recommended this place. I was excited to finally dine there. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. There are better choices in the area. I don’t even know where to start. First, we were a group of six and our total bill was way over 1K. The money spent was not a problem, but when you spent that amount you would expect world-class service and amazing food. Neither was the case. Let us start with service which was mediocre, and I am being kind. The manager was corny and inappropriate, making jokes and comments off brand for a steakhouse of this caliber. Our server was slow, and we waited longer than usual to order drinks, appetizers and then another while to place our actual order. She was nice but not attentive and slow. We had to beg for a second round of drinks and remind her a few times about the cake we wanted to celebrate our friend’s birthday. She wasn’t even discreet about it. The food was disappointing to say the least. For appetizers we had Shrimp Cocktail, Oysters on the Half Shell & Crabmeat Avocado. These were some of the only good items we had. The shrimp cocktail was amazing and fresh. The Oysters were subpar, but the Crabmeat Avocado was delicious. The only thing about the crabmeat avocado is that it was a dip and they placed it on top of ice. The shrimps and oysters on ice make sense, but not a crabmeat dip. It was falling inside the ice and was difficult to scoop out. Would have taken no effort to place it in a nice bowl in my opinion. The sides we ordered were Sautéed Mushrooms & Mashed Potatoes. The mushrooms were under cooked and lacked seasoning and the mashed potatoes were just not good. I had better mash at a fast-food restaurant. The biggest disappointment was all the steaks. First, they missed the mark by a landslide on how each wanted their steaks cooked. I ordered my steak medium and got a medium well. Hardly any pink at all. My friend ordered her steak medium well and got hers well done. It was burnt and dry inside. I can go on and on. The side sauce tasted old and had no flavor. I have had better steaks at a chain restaurant like Long Horn & Texas Roadhouse and better service by far. I just have two words for management. Do better!!! To anyone looking for a good steakhouse in Rosemont or the Chicago area…..Believe me when I tell you, there are WAY...
Read moreSeveral years ago, I did a review of a Chicago Prime Steakhouse order where i was greatly disappointed by the cut and quality of the meat. This was a while different experience. The moment you step through the door, you are stepping into a high class, professional restaurant, which after living in Idaho for several years, I had completely forgotten existed. Everyone was dressed nicely, the waiters and waitresses were kind, intelligent, talkative when they should be and quiet when they should not. Busboys went around filling cups before they even reached hallway empty and cleaned crime of the table in a blink of an eye. I had forgotten these places existed. It was fantastic service.
As I say in my booth, shortly after I arrived, they bright me bread. The different pieces of leaves arrived, a white bread, raisin bread, and a multigrain. They were pleasantly rustic, all tasting homemade with a form crust that reminded me of the Italian styled breads my father used to pick up whenever he went to the Italian market growing up. They weren't strong in flavor, but they were nice. I've been to places where they have served strong pumpernickel that weighs your taste buds when going into the main course. These were light flavor, simple, and enjoyable. For someone like me who was traveling alone, it was too much to enjoy by myself, though I do have to admit that my favorite was the multigrain. It's been a while since I've had good multigrain bread like that.
Sorry after I had received the bread, I terrified my appetizer, just two oysters. I've had bad luck with oysters in Chicago. They were good, no grit, and pleasantly flavored and beautifully displayed, even for two. Soon after that, they bright it my medallions with broccolinni. The broccolinni was perfectly cooked aldente and nicely seasoned. The steak medallions were tender, cooked a perfect medium rare, and full flavored. If they are a merely a sample of a full steak, the investment into a larger steak would be worth it.
Ultimately, it was a high class restaurant that surprised me in their professionalism, quality, and flavor. The only thing I regret was not being able to try their lobster tail, which appeared larger than a body...
Read moreSuperb service from the whole team at Gibson's Bar & Steakhouse. From beginning to end, I had a memorable experience dining there with my son. Quite honestly, dining as a solo mom can be a challenging experience, as I am often given the look of death as if it is an inconvenience. However, I did not feel that experience at all at Gibson's. I was greeted by a friendly host staff and server. We were seated at a table with adequate space for a child. Each staff member made my son and I feel welcome there which is seldom recognized.
Bread is given after placing your order. The variety of bread is great, as there were 3 different kinds. The whipped butter is a lovely touch. I tend to like the darker breads and I enjoyed the softness and flavor of it. I ordered the crab cake with a side of spinach, while my son had the filet sliders and a side of fries. The crab cake was nice and plump, and seasoned nicely. The filet was cooked perfectly and the brioche bun was delicious. The portion size of the sliders is just great for children. The fries were a bit underwhelming as it seemed like it was made before hand and sitting for a while since they were not very warm or crispy. Either way, the service was top notch and that alone speaks for itself.
I would have stayed for dessert if we weren't in a hurry to go to Monster Jam. I did order a classic negroni, and it was the best negroni I had in quite a while. The bar is separate from the restaurant and comes with full service with plenty of bar seating.
Last but not least, a big shout out to the manager Clay for touching base with my son and I. I really liked that he was interacting with other guests as well. He went out of his way to get some ear plugs for us from his car. They were definitely well needed for our time at Monster Jam. I always have a great time at the other Gibson's establishment's, but this experience was the icing...
