So this was my 2nd visit to Saltwater Coastal Grill and I am absolutely smitten with their new menu. (Side note, Saltwater Coastal Grill is the healthiest/most exotic cuisine and in my opinion, better tasting option (who doesn't love sushi?) than the other places nearby. You also won't see anyone in sweats and a hoodie, so the crowd is also more upscale casual/business casual/mature. The last I went was for the 4th of July. I enjoyed my visit, however, there were a couple of menu items that needed improvement-such as the whipped feta and beet salad) but it was a great time, overall) This time, our stellar server for the evening was Micki. If you are fortunate enough to have her, she is exceptionally superb. She anticipates your needs. I didn't even have to think or ask for anything since she was on top of it all. As for the new items on the menu, they are a complete turnaround from the previous menu and I feel fit the theme of the restaurant better. I almost inhaled the halibut ceviche and salmon tartar. The flavors were incredible and complemented each other, in perfect harmony, with the balance of citrus, fresh fish, savory/umami and crunch. Everything was natural, crisp and delightful. The vibrant colors danced off the plate (but not in a way that looked unrealistic) and entice your eyes to keep eating. The salmon tartar had a delicate, cucumber ginger ponzu sauce that I can see myself enjoying in the summer time, for sure. The halibut ceviche had a beet ponzu that I was reluctant to try but was pleasantly surprised that everything worked perfectly together. I'm a HUGE fan of the spicy white bean harissa dip. The tempura crunch put it over the top. And the local honey and goat cheese spread was a match made in tangy/sweet heaven. I could eat that for days and never get bored. For the mains, I tried the filet kebab, chicken and kefta kebab. They were all perfectly seasoned and succulently tender. The chicken was served with dill rice with peas, the filet on a bed of couscous, and the kefta had roasted veggies. It's like I was transported to somewhere in the Mediterranean. My only gripe is that there was a tad bit more olive oil than I liked on the carbs (but that didn't stop me from clearing my plate! Besides, olive oil is good for you). I'm coming back to try the other half of the menu I didn't get to try since I reached my critical limit with what I...
Read moreUnfortunately, I have to give this business a bad review. I had high expectations, and it was the total opposite. I didn't want to drive to Chicago to a restaurant, so I decided to stay close to home. I made reservations with opentable.com, and selected Annivesary in the Occasion section for my husband and I. Once we arrived to the restaurant we requested to be seated on the patio, the host Jamie selected a table but it had reserve on the table, she stated it was for a Employee family member, so we sat at another table. I ask Jamie, what is the protocol if I make another reservation at a different time, can I request a particular table outdoor, she stated that they do not reserve tables, but if I request the location and be specific they will try to accommodate. The manager Justin heard the end of the conversation and politely gave me his card and told me to email him when I make another reservation. This particular table can view the stage if there is a performance at an outdoor venue. Justin came to the table shortly after and stated he recieve the full issue from the hostess regarding the reserve table, and asked if we wanted to move to that table, we decline since we were already seated and situated, I wish we would have moved to that table, apparently the table next to us, with four people and an employee and another person added chairs and sat at the table, and were very noisy. I believe that reserve table was for them, not for certain. Then another employee put her things on the table behind us, and told the noisy table she did that, so no one will ask to sit there. RIDICULOUS. Upon leaving, we went to the hostess station to validate our parking ticket, and I asked Jasmine do they read the reservations, she stated they do...I told her in the occasion section, I selected Anniversary, which was our 10 year Anniversary, she looked at the reservation and said I see it. She apologized and said have a good night. At least she could have offered us a dessert to go. The only best thing out of this experience was the AGM Justin, he was very professional and polite. I recommend restaurants to friends, family and businesses, this will be a...
Read moreThe restaurant has an interesting selection of seafood, sushi, sashimi, poultry and beef. I had a group of seven and the reservation process was straight forward using the Google app. Although, it only allowed me to reserve for 6 people, I was able to add a note indicating that I would have 7 people in total showing up. I got a phone call about an hour before the reservation from the restaurant to verify the total and they politely accepted the reservation for 7. Upon arrival, we were immediately seated. The tables were a little small for the amount of people but it worked out ok. Service by our waiter was very courteous and prompt. The one issue that I had is that three of us decided to order the flank steak and I asked the waiter how accurate they are on cooking temperature. I mentioned that I would like my steak cooked to medium but wanted to ensure it wasn't overcooked. He said "we have a chef" to reassure me. One of the guests in our party ordered sushi and literally received her food about 20m before everyone else. When the remainder of the food was brought out, all looked delicious. Unfortunately, my steak was cooked to well done - not just slightly more cooked than a medium, but definitely well done. I let the waiter know, which he promptly said that they would correct it. About 15 minutes later, he came back with a new steak. It was cooked to slightly less than a medium, which was easily noticed even before cutting into the steak - much preferred to be a little under, than to have a well done steak, so very good there. This time the steak and the bed of mashed potatoes were very much over salted. At this point, I just ate the meal. The cook of the steak was nearly perfect, just overly salted. I will say that all the other plates at the table looked delicious and everyone was happy with their meal. It was just me with the not so pleasant experience. Overall, this is a nice restaurant with very professional and courteous service with a nice variety of food choices. I would return to give them another try when I'm back...
