OK I'm a foodie and a pizza connoisseur. I only review when necessary. Was dying to check out crust and went yesterday for the first time at 2 pm. So needless to say, it wasn't busy. Started off with the pear martini and the wings. Martini was good, wings ok. The server seemed to be in some super hurry and kept insisting in what else we wanted to order. So I finally said the Italian beef pizza. I told him twice wasn't in a hurry and I wanted to be completely finished with the wings before the pizza came out. Was trying to have a bit of a communication date with my boyfriend and wanted to have a couple drinks. Wings come, start eating them and within 2 min a pizza is being delivered to our table. I finally see the sever ( after he took our order disappeared and didn't even come to check on our table even after food was brought out, they have food runners) Finally I see him standing at the end of bar, spinning a small serving tray. I waive him over and said I didn't want this pizza yet he goes well i put the entire in and told the kitchen to hold of making for 10 min..I've been a server for years and he could've put the wings in, when we were half way done with the wings came back to table and asked hey, ya want me to put the pizza in now. Especially since the place was dead. Well, if I wanted my appatizer and main meal ordered like that I would have done so..No apologies, nothing, so at this point I'm like ill have another pear martini please. He brings it, and this time it's pink, first time it was white. As he puts on table I'm like is this the pear he goes yeah but she used more bitters this time. For what? I didn't ask for extra bitters. That tells me, not a good bartender and no consistency. OK I'm excited to try this circle pizza, and do and, go figure, nothing special. And I've had the circle pizzas with the less sauce and different cheese before. This is probably one of the worst pizzas I've had since sabbaros or pizza hut. I start thinking there's a lot malnatis and a morettis 5 min away why did I not go there when I know, hands down it's going to be a good pizza. Cause we were already in the district and i wanted to try crust since it changed to that from the german restaurant. If you want a cute place to go to this is it. Martinis or pizza definitely NOT. If your stuck in that area, go pay for over priced food at sugar factory but foods is great and service and drinks are on point ! Crust receives 2 stars cause the wings were descent and the decorations were nice. But, will not be going again. And the bill for 2 martinis, 10 wings and a small circle pizza $ 81 dollars. What a joke. ( didn't even take a pic of the pizza cause it wasn't even...
Read moreI had to flag down another server in order to find my server after sitting and waiting for more than ten minutes (a woman at another table said she had to wait 20 minutes). They use the term "family style" for the reason why the food is pushed out at whatever time the kitchen finishes it, as opposed to when it is all ready together, which is incorrect, because everyone knows that "family style" means large dishes that the table shares. I appreciate my food not sitting in the back, but in the end, this idea backfired because I watched a number of very confused food runners walk from table to table asking who the dishes belonged to. The food is ridiculously overpriced! $19 for a 12" cheese pizza is outrageous, even for Rosemont. We ordered the beef sliders, which were decent. We also ordered the crispy chicken sliders. The chicken pieces were so small that there was no actual biting into your sandwich since it was all crispy crust and not meat. It made me wonder why they can't purchase larger pieces of chicken, and question whether or not I was being served the small, underpriced, cheap scrap pieces of chicken leftovers from another restaurant's purchase order (just saying). We also ordered the flight of beer. The beer was decent, but if you are going to serve me a flight then please provide me with more information other than the name and alcohol content of each taste. This place has a lot of potential, however, the problem appears to be coming from the very top. The owners need to be more realistic about their prices, choose better quality food orders, and provide the customers with more information on the beer selections; and managers need to better train the employees on how to greet each table within a decent time frame and learn the table numbers. If they do not adjust their prices, improve their service, and amp up their own beer, they will need to survive on tourists alone, and we've all seen what happens when you do that- (Hoffbrau House). Oh, & please WATCH OUT FOR THE ADDED SURCHARGE AT THE BOTTOM OF YOUR BILL. This (a little over $3) was removed once I asked what it was (the response was covid) -Kinda fishy if you ask me, considering that they opened up AFTER the pandemic, but are jumping on board with covid surcharges for added services like masked servers, social distancing & disinfectant, when they aren't practicing any of these things (tables are very quickly wiped and reused, nothing extra is...
Read moreA Decline in Quality and Service at Crust Brewing
As frequent visitors to Crust Brewing due to the many conferences in the area, it has long been our go-to spot for food and drinks. Unfortunately, our last two experiences have been disappointing, signaling a decline in both food quality and overall dining experience. While occasional missteps in service can be expected, our most recent visit went beyond that—it was marked by an unacceptable level of disrespect and unprofessionalism from our server, Dannon C.
From the start, our attempts at friendly conversation were met with cold indifference. Throughout the meal, our server was largely absent, neglecting to check in, failing to provide basic necessities like napkins, and requiring us to actively seek his attention just to order another drink. His interactions with us were limited to short, uninterested, and incomprehensible responses, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere. What made this particularly frustrating was that we observed him engaging warmly and attentively with other staff members and guests—except for us and another nearby table, who, like us, happened to be Caucasian.
To be clear, we are a family that values diversity, respect, and kindness. As a former military family, we have always embraced meeting people from different backgrounds and cultures. We are not entitled or arrogant—we simply expect basic courtesy when dining out. While we cannot say with certainty why we were treated with such dismissiveness and disrespect, we left feeling as though we had been negatively profiled.
A restaurant's atmosphere is shaped not just by its food and drinks, but by the way customers are treated. In this case, the experience was so poor that we will not be returning. No customer should have to feel uncomfortable or unwelcome while simply trying to enjoy a meal. If a server is unable to extend basic hospitality to all guests, then perhaps it is time to reconsider their role in the service industry.
We are disappointed, and Crust Brewing has lost...
