Pros: -Calamari is fantastic! Cooked to perfection, seasoned so nicely and the sauce was fantastic -The restaurant is beautiful -The food was presented very beautifully, you can tell the chef really takes pride in the food -The Valentine's special they offered was a great idea, though we ended up not using it -The prices for fine food were reasonable
Cons: Unfortunately, in our opinion, the flavor combinations were a little strange -my husband had the Alfredo, the pasta was cooked very well and the alfredo sauce was good, but there was a weird very stiff cream on top, almost the consistency of poached egg whites, but it wasn't flavorful and it was stone cold. I am not sure if it was supposed to be cold or what it was at all. My husband scraped it off and then enjoyed the pasta. Such a shame to pay for that to have to scrape it off and alter it to make it enjoyable. -I had the stuffed chicken breast and it was excellently breaded, but it took a couple of bites to get to the actual stuffing and when I did, I got slammed with a strong flavor of goat cheese and prosciutto, weird combination. I understand that some people really enjoy goat cheese, but I don't care for it and the menu doesn't list it containing goat cheese, just herbed cream cheese and dijon cream, but it was a very strong taste. Possibly the mixture of herbs in the cream cheese mixed with the flavors of the dijon cream to have a similar flavor to goat cheese. In any case, I am sure that a goat flavor can go well in a food when planned well, but this combination was weird to my taste buds and didn't go with the chicken and prosciutto. Again, the chicken and breading were cooked perfectly but then the stuffing flavors kicked in and my taste buds really didn't like it.
So again, lovely restaurant, excellent quality, awesome Calamari, but the flavors and some of the innovations from the chef didn't work well in our opinion. Don't know if we will be returning to pay for combinations and innovations, that we don't actually enjoy. But I really do appreciate what the chef is trying to do, just not...
Read moreThe recent 5 start reviewers are people who went to the pre-opening. Not the same experience for actual diners.
Of the 4 people in my group only 1 finished their entire meal and 1 ended up cancelling their order. The first impression: The interior is the same as before (no noticable renovations). We were greeted by two people that seemed irritated that we didn't have a reservation for lunch (there were only 4 other people in the restaurant when we finally got seated). The lunch menu is more expensive but the food isn't better in our opinion. The rest of the menu prices seem to be about what you'd expect here.
About the food: Person 1- Thia wrap: Requested the lettuce be cut and served in salad form. They denied that request. Order was cancelled, got sour looks from the staff when they walked by for the next 30 minutes.
Person 2- Thia wrap: Ate it all. Didn't get the soup bc he just didn't feel like. Got a side of potato chips. We all enjoyed those.
Person 3- Thia wrap: Didn't finish his meal bc he didn't like the flavors. Are maybe 1/4 of the meal. He had it in the past several times before and enjoyed it, not this time. Paid extra for the mushroom soup. One of the best soups he's ever eaten.
Person 4- Pepperoni pizza: didn't finish his side salad. The vinegarette was very bland and earthy, hint, hint... Pizza was very good and eaten in full.
Our waitress was nice but her hands were tied in the level of service she could provide.
As we walked out a truck off 5 business men pulled up and asked how the new restaurant was. The best review they got out of the group was "eh" and "not better". We ultimately suggested they go to Beehive which we assume they did.
To top it all off and what finally spurred me to write this review was me getting a text from two different friend saying they were turned away tonight because they didn't have reservations. It was no busier than lunch today...
Best of luck to them but I will not...
Read moreThe food was delicious and technically cooked well, but was not served hot or even warm. Our baked goat cheese appetizer came in a cast iron dish and we were warned that it would be very hot. I touched it and it was not hot at all in fact I could pick it up and it was just barely warm. If our server had checked on us I would have let her know, but it was delicious nonetheless. We ordered a corn poblano salad that was very good but needed more dressing. We also ordered the special. It was $37 and was a New York steak with caramelized onions and a Dijon compound butter. It came with fontina mashed potatoes. Again it was not even warm to the touch but the meat was cooked beautifully and the flavor was great. Again if our server would’ve checked on us we would have to mention this but she did not come back until we were part way through our meal. She asked how everything was and we told her that the things were cold and that we needed some dressing for the salad. All she said was “oh”. She asked if we would like dessert and I said that we don’t know yet but could we get some more dressing for the salad, since she didn’t offer that. I told her we would need some time to decide on dessert and she encouraged us to decide right away because desert took about 15 minutes to prepare for some of the items. I told her we were not in a hurry. She came back within two minutes and again asked if we wanted dessert and I told her we were still eating and weren’t sure. Within five minutes she came and just set our bill on the table. Due to our reservation being at 8 PM and closing the restaurant at 9 PM I am guessing she was in a hurry Or we upset her by mentioning the food was not very warm.
All in all I would return for another experience because the flavor of the food was that good. We did not eat all of the mashed potatoes because of the coldness, but we are hoping that was just a unique situation and not something that occurs...
