I hate to leave bad reviews. I rarely do. If something is not my favorite, I usually move on. The only time that I will leave a bad review is if my service is an abomination. Sadly, I received the worst service that I have had in a very long time. I travel for a living. An average of 230 nights per year for the last 38 years. I eat out often. We had an off day in downtown LA and I was craving pasta for a late evening dinner. I opted to grab a plate of pasta and head back to my beautiful hotel. I walked in to the front door of Amante and watched both the server and bartender (William) look at me and instantly ignore me. That was disappointing. So be it. About 3 minutes later, the server returned to the front door and immediately assumed that I was an Uber driver or picking up some delivery. I was not. The moment that she realized that I was there to order my own food to take out, her demeanor absolutely changed. I ordered my dinner and paid. Well, not really. She re-rung up my order and I scanned my card for the second time. I had requested a receipt. No dice. I walked around the block to stretch my legs and sat at one of the tables by the front door. While I was sitting there, 2 Uber drivers walked up to the bar to address William and find out if their orders were ready. He 100% talked down to both of them and treated them terrible. I was shocked. It was all starting to make sense why my initial interaction was so poor. Shortly thereafter, a well dressed couple walked in and were greeted within 30 seconds and sat immediately. Weird. My food was done and William said "Penne with Vodka" and I sat up and approached him. He asked me for payment (again). I had already scanned my card twice and was now concerned that I would have triple paid for my dinner. He couldn't have been less friendly or helpful. It is odd for me that people that work in a service industry, dependent on tips, would treat people so poorly. It's against your own best interest. I worked in restaurants for 14 years when I was in school and would never self sabotage my earnings. William must be from a rather wealthy family. I scanned my card for the 3rd time and couldn't hold my tongue any longer. I pointed out to him that he shouldn't treat the Uber guys so poorly. They make it so that the restaurant can have an extra stream of income and help keep the bills paid. He did not agree with my summation and told me that he had not said the things that he did to one of the Uber drivers (I was 5 feet away and make my living with my ears). If I were the owner of a company and people that were hired to interact with the public were poor at it, I would replace them with competent people. To put the nail in the coffin, when I returned to my room, my Penne Vodka didn't have any parmesan on it nor any parmesan on the side as I had specifically requested. Really the only thing that I had asked for. Judging people by their appearance is a...

Well, I'm going to tell you where I spent my birthday, I had wanted to visit this Italian restaurant in downtown Los Angeles for a long time. But we finally made reservations and I enjoyed that place too much. The food is exquisite, delicious, pleasant and above all excellent quality and all the ingredients are very fresh. Thos is the dish that I was craving for...๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿฉท๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜‹ Pasta in a cheese wheel, also known as pasta alla ruota, is a dish of hot pasta served in a hollowed-out cheese wheel. The chef or waiter scrapes the sides of the cheese wheel bowl pasta is twirled in the cheese, which binds the starch in the pasta water with the fat in the cheese, so every single piece of pasta is coated in fresh cheese, then plated it, shaved a truffle onto it and added some pepper. I'm sad ๐Ÿ˜” amigos, I used to love this place!! When they were at the old location my friends and I used to go get some food late at night after working at a club that was on Broadway. Back then the food was great, then they moved to this location and it's a beautiful place don't get me wrong I've come here with my daughter since she was about 6-7, I brought friends over praised and recommended this place . I haven't been here in a couple of years and have been meaning to come and eat, it so happens that an foodie or food influencer by the name Obie eats posted them on his IG and it made me want to come even more, I took it as a sign ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™‚๏ธ But!! Let me tell you the disappointment was real ๐Ÿ˜” for starters my daughter and I noticed that every table buy ours was brought a bottle of water that you can use to refill your cup, we just got our glasses with water and that was it. They never bother to ask us for a refill, I had to get up and ask for Chilli flakes because no one was coming around to ask how we were doing. The food is not what it was, the Chicken fettuccine Alfredo lacked flavor, chicken was a bit chewy as well, the pizza was fresh and although fresh out the over it was super greasy, the ingredients kept falling off the pizza ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ, our appetizer was great tho the calamari was fresh and made to order ๐Ÿ‘Œ and that's the only highlight of the day, maybe they specialize on other things now, like the ones Obie posted on his IG or its not an honest review and he got paid for it?!? Not sure but one thing is sure we won't be back, service didn't treat us like they did everyone else even tho they were polite and food is not what it used to be. Mind u it was our first meal of the day and usually things taste better when your hungry, not the case today. With a quarter of what I spent there Domino's would have...

This is quite literally the best meal I have ever had in my entire life. Not kidding. Went for my son's birthday and they made it special without even asking. We had the sangria flight and the flavors were delish - my fave being the pineapple, my son's was the peach. Then we splurged and had the off menu Parmigiano Reggiano Wheel pasta with housemate noodles (linguini) and shaved truffle - the noodles were al dente and perfection, the truffle was generous and the whole spectacle of them making it there in front of you is worth the extra $$. It was creamy and delicious and every bite was a moment unto itself. Then onto the pizza - wow wow wow - I'm not usually a fan of pizza so for me to say I am now craving this dish is amazing. We chose the Pera Candita for $18.00 and it was a flavor explosion of Candied pears, caramelized onions, spinach, white sauce, goat cheese, prosciutto, and balsamic glaze. Each moist bite was perfectly paired with the thin and crispy wood fired base. It was pure perfection and every bite had a myriad of flavors and textures that just had me buzzing. Then they surprised us with complimentary champagne AND a slice of flaming chocolate birthday cake which was also moist, sweet and delicious and the staff sang happy birthday to my son. The decor is simple and pleasing, I love the open kitchen style where the chefs obviously lovingly take care of your food, the service was impeccable, our waitress Marixsa was charming and friendly and attentive and they made my son's birthday dinner one of the best we've ever had. This is a hidden gem for LA and even though we found street parking easily apparently there is a parking lot right next door. We will definitely be going back.

My sister and I were visiting LA for my birthday. Because of COVID, nearly everything near our hotel closed pretty early. On our last night, we wanted to dine somewhere nice. I did a Google search and found Amante was a 5 minute ride from our hotel. We called ahead and they informed us they were closing the kitchen soon. They asked if we could be there by 9:15 PM. It was around 8:45 PM so we rushed to get ready and got there just in time. Thank goodness we called ahead and told them we were coming. The hostess pulled a few strings and held our table for us. Our server, William, was one of the nicest waiters I think I ever had. He was so sweet and let us take our time exploring the food and drink menus. He even recommended different wine options. The peach moscato was to die for! I immediately searched to see if we had it on the East Coast. William brought out fresh baked bread and asked if we were locals or visiting. We informed him we were visiting and it was our last night in LA. He made us feel extremely welcomed, asked what sights we saw, and suggested a few, in between checking on our order. I had the fusillonni with salmon and zucchini. My sister ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken and shrimp. Our food was absolutely delicious!!! William provided impeccable service. He was courteous and extremely attentive. I wish we'd had a chance to visit sooner or come again, but Amante will definitely be on our list when we return to LA. Hat's off to the chef for the delicious food and to William for providing a stupendous dining experience on our last night in LA.
