Back in 2018, I lived in Tokyo a few months and had two haircuts. The first was a big miss but the second ended up being one of the best haircuts I have ever had. That haircut was at Mr. Brothers Cut Club in Harajuku.
Imagine my surprise today when I was looking for a barber online and Mr. Brothers Cut Club came up in Los Angeles…and only a few miles from where I live!
I booked an appointment with Kei for the evening. He was very friendly. As soon as he started, I knew I was in good hands because he actually took a few minutes to study how my hair grew, running the comb through different sections of hair. I think I was very adamant on how I wanted the top to look but was a little unsure how to explain the sides. Luckily, he knew just what to do. The end result was exactly what I wanted.
Overall, fantastic experience. Cool atmosphere inside and Kei really knows what he is doing. He also gave me a few of their pomades they sell, which was a very generous and appreciated gift. Highly recommended. I will be going back.
Always remember, a good haircut isn’t just about how it looks the day you get it cut but how your hair grows back over time. Cheers
Tips:
My appointment was on a Monday at 6:30 PM.
From what I saw, there is metered parking, so you can park on the street but it will just depend on availability. There was no street parking available on the same street as the barber shop but there was a couple of streets before.
I ended up parking in the Athena parking garage because I was running late, which is just after S Hill Street on your right if you are driving down W 9th Street. Advertised as $5, ended up being $9 for 52 minutes.
Bring photos of the haircut you want on your phone so you can show the barber. Front, sides, and back. A lot harder to leave disappointed if you can clearly show what you want instead of trying...
Read moreReally wanted to support my neighborhood and like this place so I went back twice. But it went from bad to WORSE!
First time went with Joey, but it became super awkward. They had a major equipment malfunction, and I almost fell out of the chair. When she reclined the chair to wash my hair, the left arm of the chair completely fell off, almost tossing me out of the chair! By the grace of almighty, I was able to hold myself with my other hand so that I wouldn’t fall out of the chair. I was thinking mistakes happen, and we could recover to make this a good experience. However, that never happened, and it was extremely awkward.
I thought the first time was just a one off, so I was looking forward to trying again. This time my barber was Justin, and this experience was even worse. I sat down and told him that I’m trying to grow my hair out with an undercut so only want a trim on top. He confirmed. However, the first thing he did was cut a bunch of length off to make my hair short. I reminded him that I was trying to grow my hair out and he says “I wondered why you cringed when I started to cut your hair.” Then he decides to give me a fade and tells me “this is more professional”. Also, told me that if I wanted an undercut I should have told him I wanted a disconnected fade instead. Then proceeds to tell me about how other clients tried to fight him. Is he trying to instigate something? He also tells me that “you have to find someone that cares about your hair.” I was like exactly. After seeing this haircut, my wife asked “what happened to your hair?” Not a good reaction.

Read moreGot a haircut from Sabrina 2 days ago that pretty much ruined my head, but Natsuki was able to fix it for me yesterday. I bumped my review back up because it looked fine yesterday, but I went from having a pretty thick mane on top to having see-thru hair that highlights any and all thinning. I can mat it all down to cover this, but I didn't come in here to get my hair cut into a combover. I feel bad lowering the stars rating again, because Natsuki did a great job making up for his predecesors mistake, but at the end of the day I paid $75 to have my hair styled into something good looking, only to get a haircut that's going to require hats for the next several months. I can't return it to the store and get a replacement. I suppose I am a terrible customer, my hair and scalp aren't that normal after brain surgeries, but I would expect someone who does this for a living to pump the breaks before it got to this point. She had me facing opposite the mirror the whole time, so I didn't see where the cut was headed, I just saw it when it was over. It looked fine when I was still in the chair, but next morning, after it shrunk a little, it looked like I had gone crazy and cut my hair myself. Now I'm still waking up with a shiny thin patch on my head that wasn't visible before this week. This is pretty much like going to the hospital for one thing and getting pneumonia. I came here for it to get better, and it got worse. I have been depressed ever since the haircut. I should have...
