In one word: Unimpressed. We waited on a Saturday morning for a table. We checked in at the kiosk outside the restaurant. Once I got the text that our table was ready, the hostess said that she had to call these other tables first AND THEN we could be seated. So, we waited some more. Very unsure what kind of system this is but that's annoying! You use the QR code to order and pay for your food including the tip. Again, this is another flawed system. I don't, won't, wouldn't and cannot tip on service I haven't received. And I'm glad I didn't. There is no service! A suspected food runner brought out our food and that was it. He put the food down and left. No one came to check on our food, refill our coffees or anything. I understand that it's COVID conditions but if you're asking for a tip without service then you won't be getting it from me.
My wife had the crunchy French toast and I had the breakfast sandwich. The crunchy French toast was bland, not crunchy and was just fluffy brioche with cereal specks on it. The marcapone dipping sauce was just....alright. It had a bit too much of diced strawberries and a few blueberries and very little powdered sugar; about as much as it rains during the summer in DTLA, barely measurable. There was nothing remarkable about this "signature" dish of theirs.
My breakfast sandwich was OK. Again, nothing remarkable but I will say that the bacon was thick enough, the cheddar stood out without being overpowering and the eggs were fluffy and cooked well. The bread holding it together was fine and had a nice texture. The potatoes that came with it were small in size and I felt like I was eating something for kids but it could present a choking hazard to small children. They weren't very flavorful but made for a heartier meal and a better choice than the one my wife made.
The coffees we ordered were smooth and flavorful but you better enjoy that one cup because nobody's coming back to ask you if you want a top-off though! My wife ordered the vanilla latte and it needed 2 sugars in the raw. My Chai latte was very good and was the highlight of this meal.
I wanted to say that I'd recommend this place, especially from the high rankings/reviews but I honestly cannot. Overall it fell flat and coming just for the coffee isn't enough. Hopefully your experience is...
Read moreWe were excited to try this restaurant for the first time today, as their menu looks great, but the service was beyond AWFUL. They tell you to connect to their wifi & to scan a QR code on the table to make your order, & then disappear & no one pays attention to you. I made our order through their website menu & placed it, but then got a message that something went wrong as it was processing. However, my Husbandâs bank acct showed the amount (over $55) for the order deducted, but the order was ânever receivedâ on their end. It was hard to get anyoneâs attention who worked there. We actually, felt ignored. I saw a server passing by our table & I raised my hand & tried eye contact as he walked past my table I yelled out excuse me 3xâs until he finally came over. He had no idea how to help, so he tried to get the attention of a red headed lady who also worked there but she ignored him & then he brought back one of the hostesses, who heard my Husbandâs frustration over the amount being charged to his account, but she said it wasnât actually charged, but pending & then she just walked off. It left us feeling terrible & unresolved. He was upset b/c now this meant if we wanted to stay and eat, he would have to run his bank card again (which meant double the amt charged today on their website) & what if it did the same thing again? & they didnât get it on their end? I think had someone tried to resolve the situation in a better manner by actually taking our order or running our card correctly through an actual card machine it may have made the experience somewhat better, but no one gave a fxck to even try to make it better. So, we ended up leaving hangry, and getting breakfast elsewhere. Called his bank to make sure it would be reversed & were told it had pulled on their end so they could make a claim to reverse the charge for us. We will not bother going back to...
Read moreMy cousin from Vancouver was in DTLA for work and we were trying to squeeze in a meal with her before she left. I asked one of my coworkers who lives in DTLA for suggestions and Blu Jam was one of them. We easily found street parking across the street. We came here on Saturday and arrived just before 9AM. Luckily for us, we were seated right away.
My nephew was with us and they gave us a highchair. We asked if they had a kids menu and they did so we ordered him the Kids French Toast. We all started with coffee; Americano, Mocha, French Press.
We ordered the following:
California Omelette ($13.95) Eggwich ($13.95) Crunchy French Toast ($13.95) Norwegian Benedict ($15.95) Salmon Hash ($16.95)
I asked our server what she recommended. I was originally going to go with the Crunchy French Toast, but she said the Norwegian Benedict was her favorite so I went with that, but she suggested we get the French Toast as well to share. The grilled potatoes were cut small and had good flavor. I also liked the vanilla bean sauce the French Toast came with; it wasn't too sweet compared to syrup. The Norwegian Benedict and Eggwich were good, but not my fave. I thought our server was attentive. She introduced herself and asked us how we were related. She even took a few group photos for us. The water they gave us tasted like it was infused with citrus. I didn't think their portions were going to be that large and we had ordered the French Toast to share among the table. I probably should have stuck with my original plan. They were also quick to take away our plates and provided us with a couple to-go boxes. As we were leaving, we noticed a long line forming outside so we arrived...
