Breakaway Cafe Venice — Restaurant in Los Angeles

Awesome burritos and great service! We're visiting from Boston and wanted a late breakfast/lunch while we walked the boardwalk; Google gave this spot great ratings so we tried it. We both tried one of the specias - brisket breakfast burritos. [My wife wanted the Chicken caesar burrito but it was already sold out at 11 am, and she loved the brisket anyway.] Delightfully fresh ingredients, magnificent pulled brisket, tater tots for texture, and perfectly cooked eggs [with the still semi-runny yolks adding a nice saucy element]. We really appreciated the tater tots instead of potato chunks. Many places add so many potatoes that the other flavors get lost. Last, the conversation with the owner (I forgot to ask whether it was Nick or Zach) was another delight! What a pleasure...

This place is SERIOUSLY AWESOME. The food is extremely good - the ingredients are simple and high quality and the flavors are 2-3 Michelin level balanced and sophisticated. I ordered the overnight oats (truly AMAZING) and my friends got the Tuscan sandwich and breakfast burritos and they were all really exceptional. The prices are also affordable for Venice standards ($8 for oats, $2 Diet Coke). The seating area is also very nice in a little alley and public beach restrooms are a one minute walk away. The original BreakAway Cafe opened years ago by our office in Culver City on Washington with the two brothers Zack & Nick, bringing the high end NY restaurant experience to the more affordable, but as quality of the food as Nick does.
