Attempting to review this place after reading an article about "50 Things You Need to Eat in LA" and other articles claiming this is one of the best breakfast burritos around town. Those are some mighty hefty claims to be shouldering so I'm going to try not to be persuaded by the hype.
After all these years, I thought Cofax was a boutique =)
What I found is much more pleasant; a small coffee shop who shows their love for the Dodgers with memorabilia and art. Walk up to the counter and their menu is simple: cold brew and kombucha on tap, breakfast burritos and donuts. With a simplified menu, their food is then perfected. The case is filled with delicious big donuts made in house that ranges from $2.75 to $3.00. They proudly serve Stumptown, which is so good and refreshing from their nitro bar ($4 for small and $5 for medium.)
But about their burritos: Yes, they are good but in the Fairfax/Beverly Grove area. The burrito is compact but filled with chorizo and egg, which doesn't taste heavy or greasy. I had chorizo with a stronger taste before with bigger pieces but theirs is fine. I added avocado and they were pretty generous for my order. What puts them an A in my book is that they grill the burrito so the outside is crispy. I have not found another place in the surrounding area who does that.
So a solid 3.5 to a 4.0 stars for this place for the burritos and the super good coffee. I'll make sure to stop by to try the cold draft kombucha or...
Read moreAbsolutely flawless experience at COFAX on Fairfax Ave across from Canter’s Deli in LA’s historic Fairfax district.
Upon walking in you’re greeted by a very professional and courteous staff, if they were owners I wouldn’t be surprised, they cared about my enjoyment of my Chorizo breakfast burrito which was graciously recommended to me upon my request for a rec.
What makes the experience a truly special one isn’t the perfectly seasoned and cooked chorizo/eggs/potatoes, no, it’s the house smoked/made tomatillo and roja salsas. Absolute perfection added to every bite, I’m a bit of an animal and after having one bite with each alone I had to combine them to make the most perfect bite of fresh, bright acidity, meets smoky, robust pepper on a burrito that’s BIG (filled a big 250 lb guy). They provide one of each salsa with a purchase of a burrito, if you want more they’re $.50 a piece and I didn’t need extra but I used every last drop so if you’re saucy you may want to splurge for two extra salsas for a buck!
The coffee was worth a trip alone, but the combination of a perfect breakfast burrito and iced latte has made a new regular customer out of me. If you’re ever by The Grove or Farmers Market and actually want something worth your money ($21 and change) head up the street 5 minutes to Cofax!! No cash accepted!!
Sorry no pics I was breaking a fast and went a little ravenous when the burrito was handed to me lol!! Thanks...
Read moreCofax is a great coffee shop along Fairfax. I love grabbing an iced caramel latte with almond milk before going across the street for shopping at Three Amigos or up to Bagel Broker for a fresh bagel.
Breakfast burritos are fantastic—I love the veggie burrito with avocado, partner loves the bacon no avo. A little pricey, but on par for the area. They have a small selection of baked goods as well. Service is always pleasant and the orders come out quickly.
Only negative is TERRIBLE parking in the area, especially on the weekends due to the shopping (Supreme, GOLF, Rip n Dip, etc). Only street parking but good luck finding a meter. The lots are a total rip off and navigating the surrounding neighborhoods for parking is a nightmare due to the necessarily packed streets (very few of the buildings come with included parking) and narrow streets. We typically park along Beverly and...
