This place seemed very Promising online.. However after walking in I was not greeted properly. Stood there and was rudely stared at. Waited 5 minutes before the woman behind the bar decided to greet me, rudely asked me if I wanted to sit at the bar counter, after I declined and told her that I didn't karma she then guided me to a table and slap the menu on it. After I ordered my food, The pancakes I ordered were very dry karma the sausage that I asked to be well done was not how to be taken back the 2nd time, and were nasty.... I also ordered hash Brown's, not to mention the hash Brown's just an FYI are seasoned with Pepperica which is not declared on the menu and I am allergic to it... When I express my concern to the waitress, she pretty much ignored my request stating that I am allergic to this, she stated to me that it's mixed in the hash Browns, and that I didn't have to eat it. This restaurant is very bad on service and I will never eat her again.
Not to mention based on the way that I was dressed I felt that I was discriminated against because I looked very comfortable in my setting. Not sure if it has to do with me wearing a hair wrap that African American woman wear sometimes, and...
Read moreI reconnected with this café that opened In 1977 in my young years!! I did not know it was still serving the neighborhood even though I walked or drove by several times a week on my way to UCLA or Westwood Village. The dining area looks more traditional than contemporary, but I liked that our booth was comfortable. I came Saturday to check it out. Most or all tables had guests at 10 am!! Today, Monday, I returned for lunch with two friends. Even though it was not very busy, service was somewhat slow, perhaps because there was only one young woman helping the tables. The grilled half Cornish Hen dish was ok, even though the pilaf, carrots, and broccoli were a little bland. I should not have ordered teriyaki sauce on the grilled chicken breast on baguette, as the sauce was oversweet American style, and the baguette quickly became mushy, perhaps because the baguette was softer (like the kind so called baguette at the super market, rather than a real artisan baguette French style). I would have preferred plain grilled with a little lettuce and tomato tossed with a simple oil vinegar dressing, like bánh mì style. Next time, I will try something else from...
Read moreDaughter was in town for just a few hours & we drove a couple hours out to see her for lunch. Picked Mary & Robb's based on reviews. We were NOT disappointed!
What a GREAT place. Excellent, friendly service by folks who actually seemed to care. Coffee cup was constantly attended to (which is awesome) and the food was downright excellent. Also excellent coffee for a diner - we roast coffee as a business and it was clear that this was no ordinary "diner coffee." Top notch.
Wife had a reuben which she said was the best she'd ever had. Which is saying something.
Lastly, they allowed us to sit in our booth (left-rear "Gone with the Wind" booth) and visit our daughter for almost 4 hours. Tables were open so we weren't holding anyone up, but I did ask if we were a hindrance and staff just said "we're here until 8pm, stay a long as you like!" What an incredibly welcoming bunch of folks.
Wish I could give this place 6 stars. Thank you Mary and Robb's for making our limited time with our daughter so pleasant and for the great food...
