I love the concept of Nandarang and I feel like Koreatown should have more places like this!
Looking for a fun spot to hang out at in Koreatown that wasn't a bar or KBBQ on a Saturday evening, we decided to give Nandarang a try, since it was described as being a gastropub with Korean comfort/pub grub style food.
It's very spacious inside with plenty of tables. I was a little disappointed to see that there were only a few other people there - I hope that it was just that day, as this place deserves a lot more attention!!
Service was attentive and friendly, and we quickly had our food and drink orders being brought out.
I loved everything we got! There's more traditional grub like mozzarella sticks that tasted cheesy and delicious, as well as items with Korean twists to them, such as a Kimchi Shrimp Pasta that I LOVED. Seriously though, that Kimchi Pasta is now at the top of my list for favorite pastas in LA - unique, flavorful, creamy, spicy but not too much....it's SO good! Korean staples such as the corn cheese were similarly creamy, delicious, and delectably enjoyable. Paired with some hot sake and we had a wonderful evening and meal!
I loved my visit to Nandarang and would love to go back! If you're looking for a great Korean comfort food & gastropub spot that's clean and modern inside and has both delicious staples and unique bites, you'll definitely want to try it...
Read moreMy experience at this restaurant was disturbing and offensive. After I didn’t tip the amount a worker expected, he followed me into the restroom and confronted me in a highly uncomfortable way. He stood over my shoulder while I was using the restroom, watching me, and made racist remarks like, “you people leave the restroom dirty,” clearly referring to me being Latino. He then called me a derogatory name, trying to provoke a reaction—which I chose not to give him. Throughout this encounter, he was slamming things around and even twitching, clearly displaying erratic behavior that was both concerning and inappropriate. This individual shouldn’t be working in a customer-facing role, given his aggression and lack of control. When I said I’d speak to the owner about his behavior, he just laughed, saying he’d been there for five years and “nothing would happen” to him. With an attitude like that, it’s no wonder he’s stuck in the same job—maybe that’s why he was so upset about a tip he clearly didn’t deserve. To make matters worse, a female staff member refused to help, wouldn’t provide the manager’s contact info, and ignored our concerns. This place made me feel deeply uncomfortable and disrespected, and we’ll be reporting this to the Better Business Bureau. I urge anyone considering this establishment to...
Read moreJessica Y and I stopped in here for second round after having dinner at Byul Gopchang right next door. Hae Jang Chon is also located in the same plaza. Since I already valet in the plaza for $2, it was a super convenient choice.
Cafe Nandarang has happy hour from 5pm-8pm with 16oz beer $4.99 and $12.99 for a pitcher. The happy hour deal is not just limited to certain brews. You can actually get any beer they have on tap at that price. We got a pitcher of Franziskaner to share. I usually pay $8 for a pint of that elsewhere so this an awesome deal.
Since we're 2 fatties, we got chicken wings to share even though we just had dinner. I am not too impressed with the wings. They're small and the sauce wasn't amazing. That didn't stop us from eating it all but I probably wouldn't order wings here again.
They have a pretty big food and alcohol selection. You can drink beer, wine, soju, or whatever you'd like here. The food menu is pretty big and has all your usual Korean bar favorites.
The service was okay. The place is very chill so the waiters don't really bother you too much. They don't have a call button so it's not as easy flagging...
