It often happens that the food you grew up with is served elsewhere in the world with a different name and appearance, and if not identical, it might be very reminiscent of something you once loved and thought that unfortunately you might never taste again. So is the case with the Perashki, Ponchik, and Lahmajoon (otherwise known as Armenian Pizza), I ordered for last night's dinner. These are just three of the delicious offerings at Papillon International Bakery (PIB). The Perashki served here are more closely resembling a Piroshka, more of a Mediterranean or Turkish pastry (shaped as a tube), are fried and may be filled with Ground Beef, Potatoes, Cabbage, or even Mushrooms. I grew up on the Russian variety, a baked, doughy and crescent shaped pastry, but regardless of the differences the PIB version still didn't dissapoint.
It was all made to order, which took some 15 minutes, so it was fresh and hot when I picked it up. You need to know that the prices here are ridiculously low, so you want to try this before the owners read this review and realized I'd pay more. The samples in the glass case are just for show, and will give you an idea of what foreign delicacy you are about to enjoy. I'm reallyglad to have tried something different, and...
Read moreI visited the Hollywood Papillon Bakery because it was very close to my residence. I was off work and decided to give this place a try over going to food for less haha. It was quiet and empty when I arrived around 4pm. I was served rather quickly but afterwards it went downhill FOR ME. I waited patiently and I felt very awkward. If u follow their instagram there is a man whose name I dont know that usually showcases the pastries, happened to enter and began speaking Armenian to the staff who was serving me. The awkwardness was real ! I was really expecting a greeting or an upsell because things were faux displayed rather than pre- baked. He continued to walk in and out disregarding a customer was there and I felt very upset. Once I was walking to my car, I seen that he was leaning on a white Bentley and later drove off... take it as u may.. but at least my oreo churros were delightful.
All I'm saying is ... guest service and upselling is key to having a recurring happy customer!
Thanks...
Read moreA great place to go to if you're in the mood for a snack. My family loves the perashkis (like a donut with savory filling)...especially the Bulgarian cheese and mozzarella perashkis and pizza perashkis. The pepper spice that comes with it complement it well. I sometimes buy them the night before for the kids breakfast in the morning prior to heading off to school. You can microwave it for a short time (10-20 seconds) We also love their ponchick (donut with sweet fillings). My kids love the Nutella ponchick while I prefer custard ponchick. There are other fillings available. This bakery sells many other pastries but the two mentioned above are the more sought after. I've also tried their Napoleon's, both custard and Nutella, and they are delicious as well. Can't really go wrong with this place. You can call your order ahead and usually takes 15 minutes for it to be ready. Staff are very friendly as well. I look forward to...
