Let's skip the generic "prank"jokes and get down to business....
This place lives up to it's hype. The FIVE STARS are well earned. 5Food 5Service 5Atmosphere 5Happy Hour 5*Pricing
Save yourself $$$ and come during HAPPY HOUR 2:40pm-7:02pm. $7 cocktails, food items, and Can Beer!!! They also have NIGHT CAPS 9:42pm-10:47pm all for same pricing. Or if you're just big ballin', then disregard all that and come in anytime. *Tip, come in probably 20 min prior to HH to save yourself a seat. Gets very crowded quickly and you can just enjoy a drink and prep your food order ahead of time.
STANDOUT DISHES: *Spicy Cauliflower ($8): w/houseranch. Vegan version, sweet chili, sriracha glaze, lemon, thyme, scallions. Wow! I'm not even vegan, but if this is how all veggies tasted...I may reconsider. Nope! Can't do it, Ribeye's are just too darn delicious! That sweet chili and sriracha glaze had me drooling for more. *Soft Pretzel ($7): w/cheese sauce. Jalapeño and cheese sauce or honey mustard sauce. This was served warm and tasted very fresh. Like, do they have a special chef just in charge of the pretzels that's carefully making loose knots with dough back there?! Simple, but delightful! *Taco Duo ($7): fish (or you can get filet mignon or vegan) + Roasted taco sauce $1. Seasonal fish, house pineapple salsa, slaw, chipotle crema. Shoutout to Chef Ricardo Sanchez and Sous Chef Jose Guitierrez for dishing out some delicious tacos with that fresh salsa! It's hard to find outstanding tacos at "American" restaurants.
STANDOUT DRINKS: *Pinky and the Brain ($12): Pink grapefruit, honey, reyka vodka, lime, bitters, spritz of GF peel, w/himalayan salt. This drink was so well crafted and the honey with the grapefruit came together beautifully. Nice and light with honey undertones. *Passion Flower ($14): Fresh strawberry, kiwi juice, kettle one vodka, lemon, sugar, w/basil. Very refreshing and nicely crafted cocktail. *Santa Monica Hefeweizen: Great Wheat beer!
SERVICE & ATMOSPHERE: A big thank you to our amazing bartender and server Rodney! You were so personable and knowledgeful in all of your drink and food recommendations. This gentleman knows his cocktails! He can whip up any cocktail of your choice and is highly attentive to your specifications (sweetness and alcohol choice). All of the staff were simply wonderful and friendly. Despite being slammed with HH goers, they all are super and even the owner stepped in to help out with the rush. In DTLA, it has been proven difficult to find the perfect bar, but...this may be a serious contender.

Read moreMy wife and I slipped in to grab a bite to eat, we wanted to try for ourselves one of their terpene infused coctails. In case you are unaware terpenes are biochemically similar to flavonoids in that they contribute to flavor and bouquet of organic leafy plant matter. They are being studied for health benefits from anti-inflamatories to mood elevators. I don't know about you but tasty food tends to elevate my mood. We lucked out and caught a curb parking spot just down the street, parking is limited due in no small part due to several construction projects, and close proximity to the Staples Center. I would plan on parking in the garage across the street. It was a Sunday evening at about six thirty and it was busy despite there not being anything going on at Staples Center, so It was an ideal circumstance to experience all things Prank. Our hostess was friendly and seated us near the window in the front and despite several televisions and a mostly full house the high ceiling absorbed and diffused the ambient noise and we were able to talk without raising our voices, this in and of itself imparts a relaxed fealing of comfort. Within minutes of being seated we struck up a conversation with the couple seated next to us, like us they were impressed with the atmosphere, food and drinks. The place is really friendly, this is a neighborhood joint and you are instantly made to feal from there. If you are going to see a game or event at Staples stopping here first to eat is a must, after for cocktails would finish the evening perfectly. The hostess greeted us with a big smile and was friendly, we were seated comfortably and quickly yet unrushed. I knew I was going to review this place so I took notes which unfortunately fell victim to a spilled glass of wine. (My fault) I only mention this because I intended to refer to our hostess and server by name, they were warm and friendly and remembered our names. The menu is loaded with entrees for seven dollars which in downtown L.A. is unheard of. Their burgers are made from 100% Kobe beef and my jalapeno burger was a top five all time burger, seriously, and I LOVE burgers. The wife had the shorty ribs, slow braised all natural beef with horseradish mashed potatos, sauteed green kale, roasted garlic, Romero sauce and edible flowers. The portions were generous and we both brought some home, the food was simply fantastic. It was a "virgin" beverage that really washed down the feast and finished the pallet on a perfect note: the anti-inflammatory with pineapple, lemon, ginger, agave, lemonene terpene, cayenne, bitters and sparkling water was effervescent and slightly sour and worked it's way into this review on its own merits. Near by are several high rise appartments and condominiums and when people settle into these new digs Prank will be that spot on the corner where friends and neighbors hang, and when you drop in you will feal at home there. Prank is the downtown Los Angeles version of Cheers and we are planning on returning...
Read moreThis is a cute spot that you can take a date to or just come to chill. It's an open space, meaning the glass wall opens up so it can be really cold. Bring a jacket!🌬❄ They do check ids at night.
It's more like a bar than a restaurant. As you can see the menu only has about 12-15 food items. The bar is really cute. The service was really good. The waitress & waiter was also the bartender. They were very attentive. The busser was a cute lesbian 😉 lol I told my bf she was cute! She was very nice too. Nice in a professional way of course.
I ordered the braise short ribs because i'm kind of picky & bougie. I really wanted some good home spaghetti but they didn't have it like my bf said.😑 The short ribs was ok. Wasnt really my style or my taste rather. I tried to eat it with hot sauce but I still didn't like the taste. I ate half because I was starving like a pregnant woman who hasn't eaten all day!
My bf ordered the Bucatini Pork Bolognese (fancy way of saying pork spaghetti of some sort). He absolutely loved it. Ate every bit! He tried to make me taste it, but I don't eat pork. 🤢
They also had an amazing band playing! The singer/guitarist was amazed balls!!!! They did a lot of covers & I loved them.
I highly recommend this place although I didn't like my food. Im just a picky bougie brat when it comes to food. 💅 I'm sure the drinks & food are great!
