Found this place because we were browsing for Korean style raw seafood for takeout for a birthday celebration dinner and wow, what a find. Huge amount of fresh quality seafood, wonderful experience!
ORDERING (TAKEOUT): We called in our order, for a mix of halibut and assorted sashimi for four people. The next question was, plus seafood? And I asked if that was the recommendation and she listed, "sea squirt...abalone, octopus,.." and a few other choices and hey, in for a penny, in for a pound, yes, let's go for it! Price is $240 for this order as of Nov 2021 which looked along the lines of the menu pricing listed in the Yelp photos. On a Saturday evening at 4:45pm the wait time was 30 minutes which seemed totally reasonable for freshly prepared seafood!
PICKUP / PARKING: We got a courtesy call reminding us to pick up 45 minutes later which we appreciated (it is raw seafood after all!) and we were just arriving - there is a small parking lot in front of the complex that T Equals Fish is located in (their sign is easily spotted from the street thankfully) and there were quite a few tents set up in front, but for a quick pickup the valet person was happy to let us pause for a few minutes.
PACKAGING: Everything was packaged in a thorough and careful way, with plenty of ice for the raw items, and attractively done too. Grilled fish was wrapped in foil, oysters in the shell attractively arranged, dipping sauces in their own containers, packets of soy sauce, a generous amount of gojuchang and wasabi and sesame oil, heated items separated from the cold items, wonderfully done. We felt like we were bringing home a special occasion for sure!
FOOD: So generous and all four of us were stuffed. There was just a total wealth of variety. For the main features: SASHIMI: the thinly sliced halibut was almost rainbow-clear and so fresh, the accompanying yellowtail, toro tuna, salmon, octopus, tuna, white fish, all thickly sliced and generously portioned together on a bed of radish. The flavors were fresh and richly sweet from the fattier cuts, beautiful. The SEAFOOD: sea squirt is an experience (that flavor is something else!), the "live" octopus tentacles stuck to the soy sauce containers but were very sweet, the small sea squirts were pleasantly crunchy and sweet, the sliced abalone (and accompanying shimmery-green shell) were deeply sweet, the opened up uni gorgeously orange and with no bitterness, only creamy-sweet, the oysters fat and sweet as well. The marinated soy sauce sweet shrimp (raw) was my favorite of those. Absolute luxury.
Not to mention the SIDES: Seafood stew had fish egg sacs and other fish parts for a deep and slightly spicy savory broth (great to sip in between bites of raw fish), the miso soup richly flavored, tempura pieces, roasted whole fish, spicy side salad, perilla leaves and lettuce leaves for wrap, two sides of white rice, raw garlic / jalapeno, small savory pancakes, steamed egg (so fluffy), white kimchi, ... wonderful.
Great spot for Korean raw seafood and certainly a special occasion type of dinner! We were very impressed with the quantity and quality of the takeout order and would love to come in person (or order...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been wanting to go here for a while. After looking at all the reviews from "influencers," I was excited to go and try the food. My wife and I went on our anniversary, and we were both disappointed. We ate on. 10/25, Friday night around 5:30pm. Not too crowded, maybe three other tables, but around 6:30 half of the restaurant was filled. I've been eating marinated crabs all of my 45 years of existence, and I have tried many types of crabs (blue swimmers, korean swimmer crabs, hairy fresh water crabs, dungeness crabs, etc.)
My wife and I ordered the A.Y.C.E. crab set ($39.99 each) as well as the rainbow roll. The food came out quickly with a pot of fish cake soup (two skewers) and a variety of side dishes.
The shrimp was not deveined, nor did it have that umami salty flavor. It just tasted like soy sauce shrimp.
The spicy crab and soy sauce crab had good flavor, but you could tell the crabs were not marinated long. The shells were extremely hard. They were also on the small side. Generally, marinated crab should not be hard, but these were rock hard, and I ended up not eating the claws as the effort took away from the eating experience.
We were disappointed in the marinated crab and the rainbow roll. I felt the fish could have been fresher, and the size for being almost $20 could have been larger. Side dishes were okay but nothing spectacular.
I can't comment on the rest of the food, but if their signature dish is lacking, then I can only imagine how the rest of the food could be.
We paid $128 after tax and tip for 2 A.Y.C.E crab dinner and 1 rainbow roll. Money is not really a concern as long as the quality warrants the price. There was only one server, but she was prompt and courteous, and since I am able to speak Korean well, there were no issues, but they speak English as well.
One sanitation issue is I found a chewed up crab shell in the box of gloves given to us. It was very disgusting, but the restaurant was overall clean. Parking was strange as there was a street carnival on Vermont Ave, so they made sure we were eating in the strip mall before we parked. Also, the AC was turned off when we came in, and at the end of our meal, they turned it back on.
We will probably not come back. This place is more for drinking with your family and friends and sharing food as the quality is lacking. The seafood tower seems interesting, but i'm not willing to risk another...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMove over kbbq.. there's a new AYCE king in Ktown that won't leave you feeling gross and stinky.
T=Fish is offering AYCE raw marinated crab and shrimp for less than most kbbq spots - only $44.99! They first serve an impressive array of banchan and a savory fish cake soup, but don't be a sucker and load up on that. You're here for the shellfish! The shrimp is marinated in soy sauce that balances well with the sweetness of the shrimp. The crabs come in the same soy sauce marinade and a spicy mix. Don't worry about your hands smelling fishy later either bc T=Fish provides gloves to keep your fingers neat and tidy. The spicy crab was my favorite. The sweetness of the crab with the perfect level of spice is truly unbeatable.
š Pro tip: take some of your rice and mix it in that shell and enjoy. Iykyk. If shellfish isn't your thing, don't worry, they have other seafood offerings like sashimi and chirashi with thick cut fish.
šThey also have a parking lot which is like gold in Ktown. I can't wait to come back try some of their other dishes like the spicy...
