The best Home made Old School Horchata ever... Not made from Store bought powder mix or made by blenders, etc.. But from the old traditional Grindin Stones were they by hand grind the Rice. I would so give up Starbucks and Soda for this Traditional Great Tastin Rice Milk Drink (Horchata).. Get a Large size, its $3, but trust me.. So worth it.. And if you dont belive me.. Ask for a small size and Try and Test it yourself.. No powder or weird after taste... Smoooth and Soft with a creamy and easy with flavor that you can actual saviour its real taste.
"...Never judge a boom by its cover...." Is a saying that i believe to be exactly true in this Location. Its a Mexican small place on the corner right on: Santa Monica Blvd and a block away from Normandy Ave. At first glance, yes anyone might just go by and see like any other Taco or Mexican Shop or Place or Truck, Etc in the area.
But from living here for past 8 years and been to All the areas to eat and dine in the area. This is the only place, were the Horchata is to die for. This is know to be true, and many friends agree with me. Others that claim 'authentic' or 'original' like: El Zerape (Fountain Ave & by Hobart) its really Store bought powder with a weird after taste, or like some Truck Taco Stops (Fountain by Starbucks-Western Ave, Western Ave by Freeway Bridge-Lexington, or others on Sunset Blvd around WSS Parking-Western Ave) just a few to name. All have either: After-Taste, Was made Carelessly/ Cheaply/ Excess Powder or Sugar/ Blended so much or Werent unable-Didnt know how to use the Cheese Cloth properly and efficiently, were a larger layer of thick lump or compounded grain/powder/beach sand-like at very bottom of the Jar/Containers they have it in and even if u cant see it, you definitely will at the bottom of ur drink after few mins
So belive me, i know what i speak of, why i say it, and do have prior expirience with this topic. Besides tasting them personally from many places, asides from even attempting making at home. The Traditional Original Methood cant be beat but does require ALOT of Concentration and Time and Patience plus the actual Rectangular Curved Table Grinding Stone with a stone shape like those you would use to make a flatten pizza dough. A long pole but made of stone than of wood. This is how you grind the rice..then best to use Cheese Cloth, prevents all the bits of rice, ungrinder parts, any stone if any, and all else that may have gotten during this step.
So go and better to just try a small drink or just spend the $3 for Large. And not have to go though all that, lol.
PLEASE LEAVE A REMARK OR COMMENT, AND INCLUDE YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE SUBJECT AFTER TRYING THE HORCHATA. I WANT TO SEE IF YOU AGREE LIKE I DO. THANK YOU AND DONT EVER CHANGE HOW YOU MAKE THIS DRINK... NOT KIDDING, JUST TODAY I ENDED UP BUYING 3 LARGE...
Read moreFirst of all I'm a new customer, decided to try their tacos. I got 4 tacos @ 2.50 each pastor & asada I got very little meat & I got 2 salsas and a bag of skimpybag of lemons and chips! I paid almost 11 dollars for 4 tacos, that's pretty pricey compare to other places. I CAN LITERALLY GET 4 FOR 6 at my local food truck. The fact that When I asked for more salsas they had the odacity to ask me for 50cents each salsa. So of course I completely responded to " ITS JUST SALSA" HE THEN proceeded to ask me for him to add the salsas himself. I don't understand why I couldn't get extra salsa for my 2 other tacos to add to my liking, if they add it themselves what's the difference??!! So I proceeded to get my tacos with salsas added on their behalf & while I appreciate them adding it...I would have enjoyed my tacos adding my salsas to my liking!🙃 Customer service was back, tacos where a 5 out of 10 & honestly I will NEVER COME back!
If salsas is to much to ask for when I'm paying 11 for 4 tacos & get charged additionally that's a sign of stinginess.
I've had waaayyy better tacos al pastor down the street. BAD...
Read moreI stop by here at least once a week to get a Burrito Al Pastor... simply delicious and the price cannot be beat.
EDIT: December 2018... Not sure what happened but the last three times I have gone here I have been very dissapointed. This went from being my favorite mexican place in the entire country to being a pass for me. Al pastor was dry and flavorless, and their other dishes (pernil for example) were much of the same... Perhaps they changed management? I'll give them one more chance in...
