The hotel is situated on a quiet street right off Hollywood Blvd., which makes it ideally located to explore that part of Los Angeles. Just about anywhere you want to go is 15-30 minutes away by car, depending on traffic, of course. :) The whole place makes you feel like you stumbled on a secret oasis that only you and a few lucky others know about. Most of our Uber drivers didn't know it was a hotel, and it's so innocuous (except for the signature red front door) it blends in with the buildings around it. Once you pass through the door, you walk into a place of quiet serenity, and are welcomed into the tasteful reception area, where a helpful, friendly person explains everything you need to know about your stay. From there, you'll pass through the amazingly beautiful courtyard, complete with firepits, comfy furniture, cozy conversation spaces, a lovely fountain, and vegetation that feels almost tropical. Each room is named after an actor or actress from the Hollywood of old; we stayed in the J. Dean and B. Davis rooms, both of which were beautifully decorated and luxuriously spacious. The decor in each room is unique and colorful, while the bathrooms maintain a clean black and white vibe. The minibar was well-stocked and not outrageously overpriced; closet space was just right; the bed was tastefully outfitted in unbelievably comfortable Revival New York linens and pillows; the room had windows that actually opened, which was a welcome alternative to having the air conditioner/heater on all the time. The bathroom space in the B. Davis room was amazing, with a large, lovely free-standing tub, twin sinks, comfy towels, and a huge, beautifully tiled shower. The Diptyque toiletries were a lovely, tasteful touch. We were never bothered by ambient noise, either in the rooms or outside in the courtyard, despite being surrounded on three sides by other buildings, or by being in such close proximity to a large traffic area like Hollywood Blvd. A just-right breakfast of croissants, fruit, coffee, and juices was available each morning, and though there are limited food options available from the on-site kitchen, anything you could possibly want can be delivered. If you're looking for a unique place to stay in a city full of unique places, I'd highly recommend The Prospect for its attention to detail, tasteful rooms, helpful staff, and absolutely...
Read moreLoved the really comfy king sized bed and clawfoot bathtub in the "Premier" room named after Omar Sharif and decorated with a leopard print rug and deco styled wall paper. If possible, get a room on the second floor which puts you away from the courtyard patio noise below. The staff was really, really kind and helpful. For example, they went out of their way to offer umbrellas when it rained and good quality ice and strong coffee. Pros: Mattress and pillows are overstuffed and soft, Sheets are super soft, Very helpful staff seem to enjoy their jobs or they are great actors, Comfy chairs on the garden patio, perfect for having morning coffee or a cocktail, It feels like a small boutique hotel, not too many guests, complimentary morning coffee was strong and not bitter, there is also a mini Keirig coffee maker in the room, Premier rooms have a full mini bar refrigerator with 2 shelves, you could temporarily take the mini bar items out of and use to store small perishable items while you visit, Beautiful quality barware and cocktail glasses, Mini bar prices are about average for upscale hotels, In-room TV is big and has high resolution, Very clean rooms, Outdoor fireplaces are lit at night creating a wonderful vibe, Ubers and Lyft drivers usually arrive in 5 minutes or less because of the central location,
Cons: There are some "druggie" type people down the street at some kind of rehab center, but that is not the hotel's fault, Not safe at night to walk alone in the area, not the hotels fault, In room TV entertainment system that lets you login to apps such as Netflicks, Amazon Prime and other apps was out of order, but you can still watch local channels, so no big problem, Bring earplugs because Hollywood police helicopters sometimes circle above the building area at 2 or 3 am in the morning (this happened 2 of the 3 early mornings I stayed at the hotel and went on for at least 20 minutes each time) so, if you are a light sleeper, it might wake you up, not the hotel's fault, but, be prepared, No cafe lattes on site, just plain coffee, half and half, soy milk, oat milk
Overall, the hotel is a great value for the price! I loved staying and would recommend it to anyone who likes to feel like they are in old...
Read moreWe've stayed in a LOT of hotels over the years, and I can honestly say this was the BEST hotel experience we've ever had. We were headed to LA for our Anniversary, and to catch a show at the Hollywood Bowl, so we wanted to stay somewhere walking distance to the bowl. When I did a google search, lots of options came up, but something about The Prospect looked like it was worth taking a chance on, and boy are we glad we did.||Upon arrival, you're met at the 'Red Door' and taken inside to a gorgeous lobby on the left, and a spectacular open air courtyard/patio straight ahead. Kim was working when we arrived, and she couldn't have been more awesome - SO friendly, gave us a personalized tour of the propery, brought our bags up to our room, and even surprised us with some sparkling wine.||The room was beautiful (I believe they're all different - individually decorated by theme), with a clawfoot tub and the coolest in-room bar area we'd ever seen!||The next morning we were met by Kim and Kiki in the lobby, where there was fresh coffee, fresh squeezed OJ, and fantastic pastries for breakfast. Kiki was just as friendly and helpful as Kim was...and in fact, throughout our stay, we realized that EVERYONE who works here is all about the service and ensuring their guests have a true Old Hollywood 'experience'. All this without having to paying exhorbitant rates, to boot!||Location-wise: it's perfect, because it's just far enough off of Hollywood Blvd that you aren't right in the thick of the insanity of that street, and you truly feel like you're in a quiet oasis. But...it's CLOSE enough to Hollwood Blvd that we were able to enjoy an amazing dinner at Musso & Frank (5 minute walk from the hotel), drinks at the legendary Boardner's bar, movie at the Chinese Theater etc., but still easy access to get anywhere else we wanted to.||We've been to LA many times, but after this experience, we'll never stay anywhere else. If you want to feel well taken care of, special, and support a business that truly values your patronage...this is the place. ||Thank you to EVERYONE at The Prospect - you made our trip one...
