The food is good. However pricing is not consistent and because of this I won’t get to eat tonight. I went for the first time yesterday. The employee who was nice drew me in. He explained the different size bowls and the pricing. I went for lunch that day as well as dinner. It was affordable. I went back tonight and order A single Samoa, the smallest side of potatoes a side of Tikka masala sauce and 2 orders of nan. The total came to over $31 dollars with didn’t make sense. I tried to say something but felt forced into paying even though I was saying it didn’t make sense. He turned the screen around to show me numbers but they still weren’t the total they were suppose to be. I’m in a wheel chair and easily so I already feel awkward in places but other guest were starring at me and I felt embarrassed while trying to explain that the price was different from what I had paid just last night. I felt humiliated with everyone watching me try to explain so I paid and left but turned around just a moment later because with the difference I wasn’t expecting to pay I wasn’t going to be able to get food for my bunny. I went back and explained again that the prices were not what I was expecting based on what I had paid before. He turned the screen around again and showed me what he has charged me. I pointed out that the Samoa alone was only suppose to be $2.50 not $5. He said well I gave you a special 3 for $5. But it was a special I didn’t ask for. I ordered 1. The other thing I pointed out was that I was charged $7.95 for the potatoes. Where as yesterday I was charge $4.95 we are now at $5.50 over charged. Then I was charged 7.95 for the side of tikka masala sauce. I got a side of it the day before it was $2. So now we are at a $11.50 over charge. The over charges also cause the taxes owed on the food to go up so we are looking at so we are looking at around $12.65 more than based on me ordering yesterday. The owner ( I believe he was the owner( was saying that wasn’t possible until I was able to prove it by showing my last 2 receipts. He then saw it for himself. I explained that I couldn’t afford it and he insisted on just giving me an extra side of tikka masala sauce, but I explained that that would not solve my problem as I was not expecting to spend over $31. I asked again for the 3rd time if I could please just get a refund and people were starring at me again. Instead he began to still try to justify it by saying he told me how much the nan was to which I agreed and said yes I know but that wasn’t the problem. It was the additional almost $13 that was the problem. I feel like from my perspective at least, it’s hard to know because I was feeling emotional and I don’t want to assume this is what he was doing, but by the end it truly felt like he was trying on purpose to embarrass me so that I would just leave but for my bunny rabbits sake, I couldn’t do that. He kept insisting that I just take extra tikka masala sauce against me saying couldn’t afford it and even pointed out how he gave me a “deal” with the Samoas that once again I did not ask him for. I only wanted the one for $2.50. He finally said fine I will give you a refund. He asked me to tap my card which would have put the money back on my card instantly, but instead he did it manually which will now cause me to have to wait 3-7 business days to receive my refund. When I told him what he did he said yeah but it will still go back. I explained that it wouldn’t go back right away though. I will now not be able to feed my bunny tonight but also I am diabetic, I already took my medicine and now I will have to go to bed without dinner tonight. I told him that. And he just circled the receipt where it saying it will be refunded to my card. I know almost $13 doesn’t seem like much, but at the moment for me it is. I have a little small business myself and in a day or 2 I will be able to get some more money but tonight being chronically ill and in a wheelchair this was my best option....
Read moreJust finished an online order from Urban. First of all I am totally spoiled from dining in La Grange Il at a gourmet Indian restaurant called Kama. The level of care there given to every dish is unparalleled. So when I moved to LA we had a very jarring experience of ordering food that was literally traumatic! Bland and oddly flavored, flat Naan and mostly placed in the bin. Since we have had some good experiences here. This would be one of them. We are vegetarian so as a meat eater we can only suggest that the approach to what I think would be street Indian food here at Urban would predict a happy result! The Samosa were flavorful though our flakey Kama versions were achieved. The Mango chutney was homemade and went well with this staple. The Naan was garlic and it was flavorful and chewy and as it was delivered it was obviously not right off the wall of the Tandoori oven..We tried the Aloo Gobi and Paneer which were spiced well and had a fresh quality with par cooked onions and taragon. The basmati rice was properly flavored and al dente as if it had been properly and recently cooked. We tried a Tandori Paneer and it was excellent and not a dish I have had before. I think we can say you will be happy with this Urban street version of India repas and I would recommend you give it try! If you are ever in Chicago the trip out to Kama will be a destination I think you will place as benchmark for how good this ancient...
Read moreWe've had a lot of Indian food in our lives, though this is the first time we've had "fast food" Indian and the experience, overall, was not our favorite.
We're used to ordering and sharing dishes at a sit-down Indian place so we were looking for guidance from the staff member on how to order here and he, we think, steered us in the wrong direction. My wife and I both ended up getting Masala Bowls (A single dish over rice). The Saag Paneer and Yellow Daal. It was too much of both. We easily could have shared a single "Bombay Plate" which comes with 2 entrees, rice and salad, and had plenty to eat. OR we could have just ordered sides of what we wanted.
On top of which the food wasn't particularly good. The Saag Paneer (which is my litmus test at Indian places) was good enough although not anything to write home about. The Yellow Dal was way too salty and my wife didn't want to eat much of it as a result.
I also had a vegetable samosa which was fine, but again nothing particularly special.
The air conditioning doesn't work and it's been awfully warm here in L.A. so it wasn't particularly comfortable dining in there either. The staff member let me know it had been out since early summer. :/
If you're in a hurry and you're looking for Indian, this place might do the job but I wouldn't expect anything...
