Very unique hole-in-the-wall spot with a café vibe aesthetic. Came here for the cereal but ended up getting a sandwich with amazing sauce (it was both spicy and flavorful). My date still got herself cereal, 2 scoops of Captain Crunch with added strawberries. When we sat down, a waiter told us they didn't have enough CC for even a single scoop and asked my date if she'd want another cereal or even a refund (2 scoops is an option at additional charge). She was of course disappointed as she had her mind set on that CC. She asked if they could just give her all they had and add extra strawberries and they complied with the request. Since I had already paid for the extra scoop of cereal, they still asked if we wanted a refund for that (very professional). Instead of asking for the refund, I asked if I could get a doughnut and just leave it at that. They brought me the pastry and soon after they brought our food. To our surprise, the cereal still had a large amount of CC for what they said couldn't even amount to one scoop. We were left wondering then just how much 2 scoops really were. Amazing place and great service. Parking is abysmal and seats are every limited. I'd still like to return and hopefully get to see 2 scoops...
Read moreI hate to leave this review, but it can’t go unsaid. I discovered this place over a year ago from a good friend who referred me to it as a great breakfast place, which it is! I came this morning and walked up where a couple was already looking at the menu. They turned and told me to go ahead as they tried to decide. Immediately the young lady at the register (peach-colored tights) rolls her eyes as if agitated they allowed me to go ahead. I walked up, said Good Morning and she just looked at me. I spoke again, sternly as I was offended by this time. She without a smile, said Good Morning. I went ahead and placed my order as she continued to give this very cold energy towards me. Later as I waited for my order someone from the back begin greeting customers at the pick up window and they were very kind. My burrito was delicious as usual, but the earlier experience made it challenging for me to really relax and enjoy my food. In a world where we have so much chaos and uncertainty a moment of kindness can go so far and bless someone’s day. Just be...
Read moreThis is a really tasty spot, just make sure you have the right expectations. Flake is a tiny breakfast spot on Rose with lots of good breakfast sandwich options + a few other items. The sandwiches are tasty and filling and I'm a big fan of some of their pastries/sweet breads. The staff is super friendly once you make it to the counter and the kitchen is usually quick and on point with orders.
My only knocks are:
Seating can be impossible on weekends and even weekdays at the right time, try this spot early or for a late brunch. There are lots of healthy bowl options, but no egg breakfast bowls which feels like a miss. A few of the sandwiches leave something to be desired, either a bit cheesier or more meat etc... overall good...
