We had a appointment in Macon. Afterwards, it was lunch time. My friend Kitty and I were starving. We decided to go to H&H Soul food restaurant on Forsyth Street. This restaurant has been around since the 60's. Alot of famous artists have eaten there. Just to name a few, Allman Brothers, Otis Redding, Percy Sledge, Gladys Knight and the Lynyrd Skynyrd's band members and the Waldens. We had a great meal with fantastic service, and it was very inviting. They brought our iced tea with 🍋 right away, and it so hot outside, it really hit the spot. We had so much to choose from, so we started with deviled eggs and corn muffins. We munched on our appetizers, while studying the menu. Then we shared food so we could taste all the cuisine. She had beef tips and rice with gravy, fresh black eyed peas with snaps and fried okra. I enjoyed chicken fried steak with white gravy, lima beans and rice and cabbage. Everything they offer, is delicious and no worries, when it comes to the prices, quite reasonable. This historic soul food experience, is located on the corner of Forsyth Street and you will recognize it because of the recently painted mural of Momma Louise Hudson and her family. She owned and operated this establishment for over forty years. There is ample parking in front of the mural, with spaces for handicap access. When you enter the restaurant, you will be astounded by all the musical history that lines the walls. If you are searching for good soul food visit the H&H. Even the menu, has history of Momma Louise legacy. So make it a point to come to Macon and have a relaxing meal, while the music plays. Bring your family and friends. I am certain, you will enjoy the ambiance as well as the food. Good Appétit & God...
Read moreI've lived in the Macon area for approximately 20 years, but only managed to enjoy the superb food and hospitality of the H & H Restaurant a few days ago. The ambiance is that of a really good friend's home where you are immediately relaxed and in no hurry to leave. The food is the epitome of comfort and it is deceptively (in the best possible way) simple. If you take a few minutes to peruse the menu, the realization dawns that many of the ingredient combinations are extremely innovative. I was truly happy to see Fruit 'N Waffles on the menu, yet wondered as I ordered if the fruit would be cooked, but cold. (That ruins a perfectly good waffle for me. I want the fruit hot.) I was very pleasantly surprised to be presented with a masterpiece of breakfast cuisine. A magnificently golden brown Belgian waffle (no thin, anemic-looking pastry here) covered every available millimeter of the plate. Delicately crisp on the outside with those lovely, deep indentations to cradle blueberries and strawberries that had been gently simmered before gracing that gorgeous culinary triumph that had an interior fluffier than any cloud could hope for. As my friends and I sat chatting and watching our breakfasts being prepared (you can see everything that happens in the kitchen), I couldn't stop thinking how much this reminded me of many happy times sharing a meal with a friend who enjoyed cooking for me. The "icing on the cake" is the amazingly modest prices at this haven that will, hopefully, be here for another six...
Read moreWould’ve given them one star, but the customer service was super great. The food, not great at all. I ordered the brisket hash breakfast that came with only one fried green tomato, a biscuit & two eggs. The portion was sized for a kiddie meal. I ordered eggs over medium & they were pretty much fried hard & The brisket looked like bacon bits due to how small they were chopped up. I should’ve just went to the waffle house. Im scared to come back here for dinner, but the pictures do look like they serve a better dinner. However, the brisket hash breakfast, I wouldn’t recommend at all!
Update.. 2/21/24
Came for dinner menu.. Order beef tips over rice, fried chicken, green beans, & fried okra. The beef tips over rice were ok. I just had to add salt & pepper, but they were very tender & mouth watering. The chicken on the other hand was HORRIBLE. Fried too hard or refried from the night before…the young lady said the dark meat was a leg & thigh, but I recieved two little chicklet thighs I guess.. No meat, mostly over cooked skin. The fried okra & green beans were good too. The Chicken though, waste of my time. And i only added the chicken because there’s a sign hanging stating their chicken is the BEST! I think NOT!! So again, I cant give one star, because everything else...
