I've been here 3 times. It's just ok. Tried to go for a work group happy hour. The obvious table for us was large one in the lower level. But, it was placed right next to a speaker that was blaring music at a level to suggest we were in a downtown club, not a brewery in the suburbs. We instead crowded around a smaller table closer to the bar. They have staff walking around asking if you need something, but they don't do anything if you ask. Need a beer? ya, you have to go to the bar for that. Need food? Here sign up on this website that collects all of your information for a burger. Then why did you ask?!?! So you are your own waiter, and the place was bought with a huge chunk of taxes from residents' pockets. So food prices must be reasonable, right? Nope think again. This final time we had some drinks and were hanging out outside. A girl came by and collected our cups. We assumed they were running low. Tried to go back to the bar and close out. The door was locked. You'd think she could have mentioned that. Instead I was charged who knows what % for a "walked tab". I'm quite certain it's over what I would think is acceptable for someone simply pouring beer in a glass/counter service. Can't help but suspect that's why they don't make a last call announcement. If we do go back, it will be the third option behind...
Read moreMy family visited Tupps Brewery on the Saturday of Oktoberfest, mainly so my daughter could enjoy the pumpkin patch and watch Hocus Pocus on the lawn. Unfortunately, the entire evening was one disappointment after another.
Our initial frustration was with the lack of available parking at Tupps Brewery. Many people were parking at Tupps and then walking offsite to other businesses/downtown McKinney. This forced us to park across the street, where we had to pay for parking.
The pumpkin patch was underwhelming — dirty inflatable slides and bounce houses, a petting zoo where most animals ran from kids (the only animal that tolerated attention was a pig). Dinner was equally frustrating: service was extremely slow, only one beer flight was available (not even listed on the menu), and what we were served didn’t match what the server explained. To top it off, our entrees arrived before our appetizer.
We tried to salvage the evening by staying for the movie, only to be told 30 minutes before showtime that popcorn (promised on their event page) wouldn’t actually be offered. At that point, we left.
This event felt poorly planned, poorly managed, and not worth the time or money. My family’s time together is valuable, and I regret wasting an...
Read moreThere's only a handful of breweries in McKinney but this is my preferred one. It's located in a warehouse on the east side of McKinney, near the cotton mill.
There's a large bar top that can accommodate a generous amount of patrons, and the times I went we have not had any issue finding a place to sit. On nice days they open the garage-like doors and move some of the tables and seating outside. There's a stage and a few TVs mounted around the inside, a gift shop to buy TUPPS swag, and men and women's restrooms.
The beer selection is great and features a wide variety of beer styles. They have lighter beers like a wheat and a hefeweizen that tend to be more forgiving to those new to craft beer (hey, not everyone is a fan!). They also have a pale ale, spiced port, and stout (and more, it changes frequently). You're like to find a beer on tap here that won't be in bottles or cans (they had "Road Rage" when we went. Like their "Northbound 75" pepper beer, but with double the peppers!).
The staff has always been kind and eager to teach newcomers about their beer. This place is definitely one of my favorite local spots to grab a beer due to the selection of beer styles and the...
