Great little coffee place downtown Melb. My family and I are big breakfast people, we love to chat at breakfast and we enjoy going to a new place and chat about the food, what we like , what was great and what was not so good. 10 in the morning and we got there with our bellies hungry but we were also excited to try something new. Seating was available in abondance and the somewhat dark front room was a bit unusual but at the same time warm and inviting. We took a menu, sat at a table and looked over at the breakfast possibilities - I really thought we were going for big breakfast. Yes the breakfast menu included about 5 items, there is bagels, waffles, a breakfast sandwich and avocado toast, there might have been one or two more items. I ordered coffee and breakfast sandwich. Let me start with the coffee - damn it was on point, strong and good actually great. Large cane in a big rim mug that held about 6 oz, yes that's a large. My breakfast sandwich was bagel with egg and sausage. I was totally disappointed, the sausage, seemed like it was microwaved, the edge was rock hard after 5 minutes which made it seem more comparable to a frozen sandwich that was microwaved, that was a total letdown for me. We also ordered a espresso with ice cream which I though was really good, coming back to the point the the coffee was really good. The waffle was 10 of 10, soft on the inside and crisp on the outside we enjoyed every bit of crumbs - given it was the size of your palm, the toppings were perfect. Finally the avocado toast - good amount of avocado on a crisp toast, looks good but tasted a bit bland, it needed something to give it a kick almost boring. Will I go back. Absolutely for coffee and waffles. I did not try the whole menu so I cannot comment on anything else, I like the decoration and the cozy feeling. Good place for coffee and chat or read a book. Moon River Café & Curiosities is truly one of a kind. I came in to get a little work done and ended up having one of the most peaceful, welcoming café experiences I’ve ever had. The space itself is stunning, filled with local art and cozy creative energy. It’s the kind of place that feeds both your body and your soul.
I ordered the Bella Capri sandwich and a blackberry lavender Italian soda. Everything was incredibly fresh and full of flavor. You can tell the food is made with love.
What made this visit truly unforgettable was my server Ilianna. She went above and beyond with her kindness, attention to detail, and amazing recommendations. I felt genuinely cared for, not just served. The rest of the staff and the owner Kate were also warm and passionate about what they do and it shows.
Highly recommend this café if you’re looking for delicious food, a serene setting, and truly outstanding service. Can’t wait to...
