We visited Memphis for the first time and wanted to go somewhere we don't have near us in Iowa. We were at the Bass Pro shop, looked at the map and this place was close and had something the whole family would enjoy. Now, I will start with that when we walked in, they had a HUGE party there so we figured it would take a bit longer than usual for food to come out. With that said, there was NO excuse for the lack of service we received the while time there. The only server that we enjoyed who was more of a "runner" for everyone was the young boy helping out. The atmosphere made you feel like you were in an old jazz joint or speakeasy type bar. Loved looking at all the pictures on the wall. Our "waiter" (if that's what you want to call him) came and got our drink orders, we gave it, we got drinks about 10 mins later. Fine. But then he didn't ask for our order. He left. And didn't come back for another 20 mins!! He came, took our order and that was it. We never saw him the rest of time we were there. Or I should say, we saw him but he never came back to our table. EVER. Our food finally came out 30 mins after we ordered (felt a lot longer). I ordered cup of red beans and cup of gumbo. Son ordered cajun Alfredo. Husband ordered cheeseburger. And MIL ordered 8 pieces of ribs. That food is THE ONLY saving grace that place has. It. Was. AMAZING! We love cajun food and make it ourselves quite a bit, but this definitely rivals ours. There was flavor, spice, heat and plenty of food. We never got refills, were asked how the food was or anything. We were going to try their world famous hot fudge pie and some fried donuts, but we couldn't get anyone to come to us. In fact, we saw our "waiter" sitting in a back booth on his phone!!! So after waiting for someone to come over for what seemed like 20 mins, we finally decided we weren't waiting anymore. I didn't even want to order a shot glass to take home. We just wanted to leave. This was an anniversary dinner for my husband and I and it was horrible. No one even came to give us our check. We could've left without paying and they would've never known. When I asked the young man who was running around for our check, he went to ask his mom who was a waitress and she said "I don't know. It's not my table." IDGAF if we are your table or not! We are customers and should be treated like everyone else! So after another 10 mims waiting, I had to go up and ask for my check. She told me she didn't serve us so she will find out who did. There are only 3 total who could. She didn't, the other lady didn't since she was working in the kitchen and the guy who just disappeared. So finally she brings our check. I go up to pay with a credit card and she had so many tickets in her hand she forgot which one was ours. But we paid, and left. Horrible service but amazing food. I strongly recommend that of you want food, or to go or delivery. Just...
Read moreI’m editing my review and adding two more stars because the owner and his office manager called us and apologized. They returned $15 to our credit card. We played phone tag a bit and they sincerely wanted to compensate us for the bad experience. As I said below, everyone on staff was always very kind at this restaurant. It might have been a bad night in the kitchen but no one we spoke with had a bad attitude. I think they really care about their customers.
We had a late night check in at the Peabody and hadn’t eaten for 12 hours so we were pretty hungry. Westy’s was open late, latex free(we have a latex allergy), delivered to the Peabody with only $1.50 delivery fee. It also had very high ratings, the staff that answered the phone and the delivery driver were very nice. But the food was horrible. We ordered fried zucchini; it arrived cold. Mediterranean sandwich. Cold, hard greasy bread, cheap, cheap ham, no “sauce” and the “olive spread” is chopped giardiniera which tasted very old and bland. The fries were cold and unsalted. No salt packets were included. The only thing that came hot was very hot and that was the shrimp bisque. Which wasn’t a bisque at all but a thick, raw floury gravy with large globs of raw flour. It had some unevenly cut celery so the larger pieces were raw as well. It was obvious all the food had been sitting there getting cold while the cook was trying to whip together some last minute bisque. Some sticky fried things were included that we didn’t order. I’m not sure what they were supposed to be but they appeared to be someone’s leftover snack. Photos included. So, although we were starving, we ate some cold fries and a couple of pieces of the cold fried zucchini and that was it. $28, before the $5 tip. All this food is sitting in the hotel room trash can. A call to the restaurant to complain and we were offered dessert but we refused. He told us to call back in the morning and talk...
Read moreLate night visit after midnight. Most people were having a few drinks enjoying others company. A few others were dining in. You sit yourself and your server will come shortly after. Our server came over, told us a few things about the menu and helped us learn a lil something. The food was good, the vibe was good too. Our server got to a point he just talked too much. He wanted everyone to know about all his problems and things going on. Yeah I know people got problems. It's after midnight, we're not out looking to find people with problems to listen to them. There was even a time the cook came out the kitchen to tell him to come get food that's ready. He screaming wait. A customer left because he took too long. He sat down to talk to every one that came in. Just taking his sweet time. The customer paid for their drink and left. He comes back complaining how she left the money and her food was ready and she ordered expensive food. This man took all day to go get it and thinks he's in the right all while complaining to us. We're trying to enjoy our food and he at the table again. Go away! I eventually asked another server if he was related to the owner. Baffled by this question, he returns to say that's an odd one for him. Basically, I asked because I figured he got the job due to nepotism. I believe he's a great guy, but horrible server. If it wasn't for gratuity, there wouldn't have been a tip. Honestly, the gratuity belongs to the other guy. He was super busy, and remained very polite and served all the food. Not the...
