Mariscos "El Viejon" — Restaurant in Mesa

We came in today excited to try this place, but unfortunately had a bad experience with one of the staff. When we first walked in, we weren’t sure where to sit, and a server (possibly a trainee) followed us with what felt like an annoyed attitude right from the start.

When ordering, I speak some Spanish but not fluently, and my boyfriend understands it but doesn’t speak it. I ordered a limonada mineral and he ordered water, but the trainee gave him attitude and repeated “Agua??” while looking at me for translation, which felt unnecessary.

Later, I had trouble ordering caldo de camarón because I thought it was just a small glass of the broth. While I was asking questions, the trainee rolled her eyes, smacked her lips, and stood to the side as if I was a problem for not knowing exactly how to order. This was surprising and made me feel shy and uncomfortable, especially because explaining the menu is part of the job.

Thankfully, the actual server who was training her was very sweet and helpful. I hope management notices and trains their new staff better, because one rude interaction can ruin an otherwise...

I called to order food and was told that I had to pay for it over the phone. I feel this is a bad move Service wise. Already you’re telling the customer you don’t trust them. Also, it breeds fraud to give credit card information over the phone and I don’t believe businesses should be taking credit card information over the phone. I understand people might order and not come and pick up the food but that’s a cost of doing business. To make people have to pay over the phone is not a way to grow the business. I must say, though, the food is five out of five, and the service is five out of five. However, I have to give it an overall one because it felt as if they don’t want...

I was craving shrimp cocktail so looked on google map and found this location. I looked at the menu and was happy to find shrimp cocktail and my kids wanted fish burritos. We walked in to do a take-out and the 3 girls working didn't greet us nor take our to go order and simply ignore us. After some time a guy helped us and took our order. When we arrived home we began to eat our meal and not knowing at all it was very spicy cocktail which we found strange because it's not normal for cocktails to be spicy unless you prefer and order with spice also my kids were unable to eat their fish burritos because it was so spicy. I tried calling to complain...
