Went one night on my own and really thought it was cool and the staff was excellent. Angela is awesome. Turns out it's not so 'friendly and laid back' after all - last night I took a couple of friends and decided to try some different beers, they don't have non-alcoholic beers seperated on the menu from the real beers and there is nothing that says - non alcoholic, also at the same price, so when I was given a non alcoholic beer and I told the bar man I didn't want non alcoholic beer - this somehow pushed his buttons and he turned feral straight away. He then walked away - I chatted with my friends, we were all stunned, and then he came back for round 2. I tried to explain that I've never been to a bar that doesn't have the non alcoholic seperated on the menu - poor old dude is hyper sensitive and took it all personally got all raged out and threatened to have me thrown out. I'd be totally humiliated if I was him. Lucky my friends and I are cool - we stayed and kept drinking - even though we still paid for the beer he violently threw in the garbage bin - but we won't go back, our nerves were put on edge and we can't stand power trippers. I've just moved here from Australia and have drunk in bars all over the world and never experienced anything so unhinged. Not only that but I've worked in and managed pubs and bars and the staff should never go out of their way looking for a fight which this guy clearly was. Pathetic to witness from a 55 year old grown man because I didn't want to drink a non...
Read moreI absolutely love a great neighborhood bar rich in history (yes I said rich in history), I am Gen X'er after all and we love a regular bar without all the nonsense. THIS place was a highlight of our holiday vacation to Miami Beach this Christmas which we walked to after having dinner at the former Versace Mansion and what a great way to cap off that dinner. There were five of us and we miraculously found five chairs at the bar against the wall and were served by a wonderful female bartender who took great care of us for the roughly two hours we were there. Serving up a nice strong no frills drink, and ensuring we had full waters at all times, the service was exceptional - she checked in often and we threw back a few rounds. The decor is wonderful, just soaking in the eclectic, random stuff they had hanging up was cool. They have a pool table, juke box and plenty of people from all backgrounds hanging out and my husband who has never met a stranger left with a few new friends. Yes, they are cash only - who cares, just carry some cash. Yes, some people are smoking in there, it adds to the vibe so either light one up if you are buzzed enough or just ignore it (or go somewhere else). It is super clear, this place is a neighborhood jewel and very beloved! We had a blast, thanks for the best Tito's & Soda I...
Read moreMac's Club Deuce is a historic bar in Miami. The bar design, the music and the screens showing sports or classic movies have turned it into a mainstay of South Beach life and so I'm not going to review that which is something that has obviously stood the test of time.
Unfortunately, I have to talk about the horrid service. There's one bartender in particular who is mentally ill and makes drinking there a chore. He's short, has his black hair combed backwards, uses eyeliner and calls himself "Butch". This character is fond of having outbursts of unjustified rage and lashing out, screaming at customers for the most imaginary of offenses. This has been happening more and more and I've already seen him more often than not behaving absolutely insane every time he's there, calling people names and shouting at the poor bouncers, who sometimes have to apologetically tell people to leave when he has one of his breakdowns while admitting there is no real motive for it.
I always avoid his side of the bar or avoid Deuce's altogether so as not to cross paths with him, but last night I was with some friends who were adamant on going there and, unsurprisingly, he had one of his psychotic episodes. This person should obviously not work in hospitality anymore and seek...
