Let me preface my review by saying, this is my first review that I have ever written regarding a restaurant, but I felt the strong need to post this so you, my fellow consumers don’t experience what I experienced here. If I could rate this place below one star, I would. Number one, environment, there were over 20 kids playing in the Grass surrounding the outside dining area of the restaurant. After I got done my dinner, I was told that the kids were there because of some sort of school gaming event that the restaurant was hosting. Well, I think it would have been professional for that information to be disclosed to me upfront, rather then after I have already sat through 45 minutes of children screaming and running. Number two, seating, I asked to be seated on the outside, because I love outside dining. I was sat in a low couch with a low coffee table in front to eat off of. At first, I thought OK they’re just sitting me here temporarily just until they bring some tables outside or something along those lines, but such was not the case. They served me my complete steak dinner on a coffee table. Sorry, but a coffee table does not call for a steak dinner, a coffee table calls for hors d’oeuvres, advertisers, finger food, tea or something along those lines. Number three, quality of food. My steak was presented to me on a plate in a manner that looked like a cat played all over the plate. There were hardly no mashed potatoes, only a tiny string of mashed potatoes along the steak, the garlic that was supposed to accompany. The steak was completely missing and the steak was completely tough. When I complained to the server, I was told that there was an issue with the chef which caused the problem and the horrible presentation. I requested that my steak dinner be remade, and that the state be presented to me in the manner that it is supposed to be with the mashed potatoes, and toasted garlic accompanying the dish. The steak entrée was brought back out to me with the proper amount of fresh potatoes and toasted garlic, however What they did was, simply move the tough steak that was presented to me before, onto a new plate with fresh potatoes and toasted garlic. This was absolutely horrible. What made the situation worse and was the icing on the cake, is that they did not even provide me a discount for all of the horrible service, Ann, had a nerve to add in the 20% gratuity/service fee that restaurants charge in Miami Beach. My recommendation, stay away from this place, it...
Read moreHad a wonderful dinner experience at Rum Room on a rainy Saturday night. We were immediately greeted upon entering the restaurant by the bar staff and the General Manager Mitch. They made sure that we were comfortably seated and told us a little bit about the restaurant before we were then attended by our server. In case you are not aware, the Chef behind the Rum Room is Chef Samantha Cruz, who recently won the Food Network cooking competition show, “Beachside Brawl”. Fresh off her win, where she represented the 305 to the fullest, Chef Cruz has put together a delicious menu that highlights all of her influences growing up in Miami. From the fish dip nachos to the fish done in a paella style with couscous, Chef Cruz hits it out of the park with her carefully crafted dishes. Our server told us that her menu was years in the making, and you can really tell that she put a lot of thought into the menu. Some other standout items were the croquetas, the pan con bistec and the chimichurri steak. And, of course, not to be left out, the menu also consists of mouth watering desserts, including the Pineapple Upside-Down Cake and the espresso tres leches, that are just as tasty as they look. All the dishes are designed to be perfectly paired with the rum based cocktails that are curated by a team of mixologists that nailed all of the drinks that they prepared for us, including a Caipirinha, a Rum Room Negroni, and The Old Cuban, which is a refreshing rum drink that is made with Prosecco. And to make the evening extra special, Chef Cruz took time out her busy evening to meet me and my wife and take photos with us. She was very welcoming and made us feel like we had known her for years. Chef Cruz, Mitch, and The Rum Room staff, thank you for making our Saturday night special. We will definitely be back and highly recommend to everyone stop by your restaurant to have a meal and...
Read moreHad an unfortunate experience at this restaurant last night. My partner and I stopped in for a drink and dessert. I can’t have alcohol, but they had an excellent mocktail option so I was really excited. We ordered a tres leches cake for dessert, which was offered to us as an alternative when we declined the pineapple rum cake due to alcohol content. We took one bite of the tres leches cake and it was absolutely drenched in rum. After a moment of panic, we alerted the bartender to this, and he insisted the cake was not made with alcohol. Even after smelling the cake, he continued to reassure us. After going back and forth for several minutes, he informed us that he was wrong— the cake was soaked in espresso rum. The manager justified this mishap by telling us that the cake was made offsite rather than in their kitchen, so they weren’t sure how it was made. They had to text the offsite baker to just find out what was in it. I was too flustered to reply in the moment, but what I should have said was that if you are serving the food, it’s your responsibility to know what’s in it. He then went on to tell us not to worry, because the alcohol would have been cooked off anyways. Had he or his bartender actually tried this cake before serving it, or even after they took the dish back from us, it would have been pretty obvious that the rum was in no way “cooked out” of this cake.
I understand that mistakes happen, but this experience was a result of negligence, not a mistake. While the bartender was apologetic about everything, this was only after we had to convince him that what we were telling him was true. The manager’s nonchalant attitude was off-putting at best, and his responses were dismissive. In sum, if you have any allergies or food sensitivities, I would be extremely wary of visiting this restaurant and take caution...
