I have to agree with an earlier review - the food is okay and customer service from the gentleman at the counter taking orders this afternoon was poor. I pick up lunch at crema at least once a week, not because the food is great but frankly good enough when I do not have a lot of time for lunch. I always order a chicken Caesar salad and remove the croutons for beets. The clerk taking my order, who I assume has some managerial role because he was in a black shirt and not wearing an apron, replied that I couldn’t do that. I explained I’ve made this request before without push back. He was more concerned with who and how that request had been accommodated in the past and the distinction between a crouton and beets than actually accommodating the request. Ultimately he charged extra for the beets, which is fine. From his resistance I should have known better than to ask, but I also asked that the chicken be chopped instead of the usual chicken slices that are served. I was placing a to go order and frankly hate chopping their chicken with the cheap disposable utensils provided. To that he insisted it was impossible and a policy of crema because it was a matter of presentation and that if they did it for me they had to do it for everyone. To which I said, “so the policy of crema is not to accommodate customer requests.” I pointed out that this was a to go order and the presentation would not be viewed by anyone but me, he was not persuaded. When I got back to my office I found these giant, difficult to pinch beet chunks (which in the past have come finely chopped) in my salad and dry chicken slices. If he is managing the customer experience and employees, I imagine this location will see...
Read moreIt's unfortunate that you can't separate the quality of food and the service from the overall restaurant experience. the first two times I went to Crema in downtown, the food, coffee, and service was great. This last time the service or lack there of deterred me from purchasing anything from what might've been a regular go to spot for me. As soon as I approached the register to look at the menu, a man who seemed to be the manager came from the kitchen removed the tip jar and placed it behind him. He then ask "what are you looking for?" (what could I have been looking for, its a freaking restaurant. It definitely wasn't the $2 in the tip jar. Advice for you and your employees on what you should say, "are you ready to order? would you like a paper menu? have you tried our...? let me know when your ready to order.") regardless of his demeanor i went on to order, he tells me the amount, and i give him a $20. he looks confused at the register and says it isn't working. (well how the heck was he doing business all day with a broken register? did he assume it was a fake bill?) i just told him not to worry about it took my money and left. I honestly hope that wasn't the manager...

Read moreThe place is nice, no doubt about that. I like the particularly comfy armchairs, next to several outlets which I find practical.
Now, the place was empty and I chose the probably only dirty table. I made it obvious by cleaning my chair in front of the waiter who clearly failed to react and ... finally placed my plate and napkin on the dirty table. In this pandemic times plus, having virtually no customers to take care of, I would have expected some action here.
I ordered a brownie and an espresso, both were excellent even if the brownie was served very cold. As a suggestion, serving it warmer would improve the experience (I'm not a brownie expert though).
The background music was adequate to the place, slightly too loud in my opinion but here...it's very personal preference.
Bottom line, I would come back. The dirty table was just an imperfection and honestly, I had plenty of other clean tables to sit at, should have I felt uncomfortable.
