it was my first time here. I had good expectations but ended with never wanting to come back. The owner never gave us the same service as the regulars. us being first timers there we thought we would be greeted and served fairly. he wanted our participation but never accepted it over the regulars. he thought they were funnier, more entertaining, but in reality we felt we were the outsiders. he should not be excluding anyone. an owner of a company should be welcoming towards everyone. THEN when it was time to pay our bill. my friend and I wanted separate tabs. (easy enough). they charged us DOUBLE the amount when we would order. then argued that we weren't willing to pay our tab. we had TWO separate cards on file, how do you mess that up? Two separate names. the owner did say he would pay the rest of our tab. which he did. (Even tho we were charged double) BUT then the owner decided to message us on Instagram telling him we owed him $$ when in FACT he charged us more than what was ordered. Why would you offer to pay it and then expect $$ back??? Our bank statements have multiple charges from your company that we gladly screenshotted. dont take on more than you can handle and respect everyone walking in your doors. Give everyone the same respect you give your "regulars" because then you'd have...
Read moreFive star review for Riley's Steak Kensington sandwich (or, alternatively, the vegetarian option with portobello).
But before I dive into the steamy review of fresh bread loaded with cheesy mushroom and onion goodness, there is a vital detail that cannot be overlooked. Riley’s is not dog-friendly; it is dog-centric. I was one of the pitied 10% of patrons without a pup in tow, and to review their sandwich without mentioning the warm love only a room full of friendly furry faces can provide would be a crime.
Now, the Kensington: Bread is the most important part of any sandwich, and Riley's knows the art of the loaf like they got an MFA in sandwich-making. Each bite was akin to the beloved affection of man’s best friend– soft and warm, slightly damp, always dependable, and oh-so-huggable. Then bam! The melted cheese– mozzarella and parm– hits your tongue delivering the well-crafted textures of mushroom (and steak, if chosen) and the kick of horseradish spread and grilled red onion. I slowly realized with each bite that the glow of unconditional love coming from the army of good doggos around me wasn’t actually for me. So be it. I don’t need their attention; I’ve got a sandwich that’s better than love, and none of these lowly canines are...
Read moreThis dog mom loves brining her Frenchie to Riley's in the 3rd Ward to hangout with our four-legged friends (either for organized dog meetups or just to catch up with friends). I feel like I'm walking into the bar "Cheers"...where everyone knows your dog's name. And if they don't know it, they always ask. Everyone is very friendly (staff & customers). But the cherry on top is their food! Generous portions & super fresh ingredients. Their bread is amazing: soft on the inside & crunchy on the outside. My favorite is their chicken tacos. My husband & son love their chicken parm sandwich. My Frenchie love the Riley's Fave. And don't forget to save room for their chocolate chip cookies! I don't usually attend their evening events because they can be a bit too loud for my dog. However, I took my college-aged daughter to their Music Bingo night & she had a blast! It's not always easy to find a place that the entire family (including your fur baby) can enjoy together...but Riley's Social House checks all the boxes...
