My Mom and I finished up with an appt in Morristown early enough to enjoy a nice dinner without the dinnertime rush. I was excited that we both agreed on the Longhorn Steakhouse because it had been so long since I had been to one. Neither one of us had had anything but a Glucerna shake or two for substinance during the day. We were both starving and looking forward to enjoying a good steak dinner. We both decided to have the petite filet, baked potatoes with butter and sour cream; I believe Mom had soup, I ordered a salad. I also ordered the herb and cheese stufffed mushroom caps for an appetizer to share. I liked the stuffed mushrooms even though it was overloaded with cheese. Mom didn't. My first salad was so full of croutons that my fork could not find a bit of lettuce to pierce. I gave up and asked for another one without croutons. My bad, the replacement salad looked beautiful, but I could not eat it either because it had enough dressing for several more salads. I had been craving a good salad... I don't remember their exact verbage, but Mom's filet was not pink in the middle as she ordered, but without any pinkness anywhere, it was cooked through and through. And it looked dry too. Her potato was like mine, not even warm to touch. I asked because these potatoes looked great, good enough to be in a food commercial! I was told that Longhorn Steakhouse uses real butter and Daisy Sour cream. Salt FYI: Pink Himalayan Salt and real butter are my two favorite additions to almost every food. I had my shakers ready to use when our main course arrived. But my filet had so much seasoning on it it that it was inedible. Seasoning, Not Salt and Pepper. Thankfully it was undercooked and not over cooked. Why would anyone use anything but salt and pepper on a filet mignon?? I don't recall the menu mentioning seasoning. My heart sunk and my stomach was growling, well at least I had a baked potato to eat before we headed back home to Rogersville. And that baked potato looked beautiful; it had been baked like it should have been with a hard salted exterior and lots of glistening butter and sour cream; perfect and fabulous just the way I like them!! BUT my perfect baked potato was not even warm enough to eat. Then I noticed that it should have had steam coming up from the top of it... but it didn't. ☆ I was so disappointed and still hungry for that great salad that I almost had; and that beautiful baked potato, I don't get either; and they fabulous perfectly seared filet mignon seasoned with only salt and pepper... and I still had an hours drive home. ☆ This was Last Thursday of June of 2024, we had Arrived around 4:30 pm, it was Still Very Quiet, People Had Not Arrived Yet For Their Dinner Rush. We were at the Longhorn Steakhouse and We Had Ordered 2 Filet Mignon, 2 Baked Potatoes, 2 Salads; Very Simple Foods that They Should Be Able to Prepare Perfectly In Their Sleep. ☆ I shared my Great Dissapoint with our server who understood and brought the manager to our table, who offered to remake our dinners herself, but we'd had enough food and I didn't want to drive home with a full stomach and on too many carbs. And I needed to get home to my FurrKids sooner than later. So we declined and she adjusted our bill, which was appreciated. I've always had great meals at the Longhorn Steakhouse in Kingsport, and other cities, so I will stick to those. ☆FYI: My Mom's 85, she hates to turn on anything but the convection preset toaster oven, or the microwave, because she forgets how to use things, but every filet and steak she has cooked for me and my father in the past 6 years has been perfect...
Read moreWe wanted to go eat rather late. I checked their website. They close at 10 pm. We arrive at 9:05 pm. There were only a couple of customers. We ask for a table. I'm a good sized guy and these one size fits all booths are a little snug. I was told there weren't any tables. I pointed out a whole row of empty tables. Their response was ,they have all ready been cleaned. It's 55 minutes before closing time. They finally decide we can have a table. Our server was OK. The food was OK. It seems the entire staff thinks that if the restaurant closes at 10; they are supposed to be out the door at 10:01! We had to eat with servers all around us cleaning, prepping tables, etc. It was obvious they didn't want us there. They are sweeping around our feet!!! At the end we had ordered a special dessert, the main reason we came there to begin with. They bring the totally wrong dessert! It's now 10:02 They are ready to give us the "bum's rush"! We eat the wrong dessert. The bill is $57.00 and change for 3 people- so so. But the whole time we have been made to feel like we are in the way. The whole time we have been an island in a whirl of cleaning (cleaning is good) but we arrived 55 minutes before closing time. No sign of a manager anywhere! We ask to speak to the manager. She comes out. We talk, she's soo sorry, but offers nothing to make us happier. The wrong dessert was the real "icing on the cake" of the experience. We saw the entire kitchen staff go out the door about 9:59. Hadn't got around to little things like , no plates, no napkins, etc. If you show up at Long Horn in Morristown an hour before closing time; THEY DON'T WANT YOU. No sign of manager the whole time until we asked for her.
Longhorn visit # 2. After the first visit, I figured I was done with this place. I decided to give them 1 more try. We went about 2 pm on a Sunday afternoon. It was a totally different experience than the first time. Short wait, place was crowed. Good service, attentive staff, good food, attractive decor. A very enjoyable experience. $55.00 for 3 people. That is borderline high for me, it's not a value menu kind of place. But for a nice sit down meal; I would reccomend it...
Read moreIt's not always promised that you're going to get consistent service at restaurants. There is turnover, various personalities, and employee happiness that drive the experience. We frequent this location a few times a year and see familiar faces working, which is a great indication. The food is consistently good as well. There wasn't a long wait time, we visited on a Sunday but afterward the church crowd. It wasn't too loud. Though the bar area is "open" and at one end of the space the tvs that were on, either weren't playing sound or the volume was down so there wasn't a competition with noise. My wife got the fried chicken tenders with fries and a sweet potato and shared this with our younger son. I ordered the wings and French onion soup. We wings had a great flavor as they were but the buffalo and bleu cheese (made in house) made them exceptionally good. They were juicy and tender which is not easy. Often times wings get overcooked and are dry. Not here. The soup was nothing spectacular. It wasn't bad or off temperature, it was just bland. I'm not sure how it is "made" or prepared but the broth part wasn't as robust as one would hope for. The onions and cheese and bread used were all fresh tasting. Jay, the manager, is clearly doing an amazing job with keeping things consistent and having happy employees. One thing I will say, I had the peach sweet tea. It was obvious that it is sweet tea with peach syrup/ flavoring. Often times when these kinds of teas are served they aren't stirred so the flavor isn't mixed properly and that first sip is full on syrup/ flavor. Perhaps I need to make a habit of stirring them up every time I order one. I am not downgrading the food because of this and it is something I could have done to change it prior to drinking it. I'm only reporting it for the next person who thinks to order this kind of drink to be alerted to stirring it to ensure it's...
