The best seafood i have ever had on the south carolina coast!! I had the she crab soup and the captains shrimp platter and both were absolutely delicious. The crab soup was my favorite it was super creamy with little chunks of crab in it. The house mashed potatoes were a bit different i couldn't figure out the flavor and i'm curious to know what it is, I concluded mustard but was told i was wrong lol. This restaurant is a bit upscale so it would be perfect for a date night or a family dinner. You have an amazing view of the ocean as well so that's a huge plus if you get to see the sunrise or sunset while you eat. You don't have to dress up just come as you are and it's within walking distance of our hotel so that was wonderful as they don't have much parking. Overall if I could give more than 5 stars i would. Our waiter was amazing he was very tentative and polite i wish I would have gotten his name. 20 stars!! Also good to note they have a bar and a kids menu with peanut butter and jelly or cheeseburgers just note that if your child has peanut allergies you may want to choose something else to eat.
Update: 2023 Let me start by saying Henry was a fantastic waiter!! He made sure we had tea without even saying anything, if he even sounds much as seen our glass had a quarter of the top empty he was refilling it. He brought us a cup of ice for our drinks, he never let the dirty dishes from our meal pile up as we ate. Also I'd like to say this I came here last year and ordered the she crab soup and I came back again this year for the crab soup, and if you guys ever offer unlimited amounts of this soup you're in trouble I will ask for the pot and the biggest spoon you have that's how much I love it!! I tried something new this year I got dessert I got the hummingbird cake, I haven't tried it but as soon as I do I'll give another update. Please don't ever stop selling the she crab soup and give Henry the world he's a fantastic waiter!!
Update: 2024 Back for a 4th year in a row for the she crab soup!! It's my favorite, it's my go-to. I don't even need a menu anymore just give me the soup!! I did try something new this year I got the shrimp berry salad. I have a very complex palette and this salad did not disappoint. Each of the ingredients together create a magical dance on your taste buds. From the blue cheese and toasted almonds to the blueberry and blackberry to the strawberry and shrimp. And the port wine vinegarette just ties it altogether magnificently. You guys have made mine and my husband's date night magical each year but this year was extra special we finally got an oceanview seat!! I'll see...
Read moreWe gave this place a shot while on vacation. Don’t think we’ll give it another chance in the future.
Positives: view of the ocean, overall a clean restaurant, and valet parking is offered.
Negatives: My wife tried to make a reservation for a party of 7 and was told they don’t do reservations for parties of that size, so we had to reserve a table of 4 and a table of 3 separately (weird but okay, sure.) They did at least seat us next to each other so this all gets a pass. The weirdest thing about it were the amount of hostesses just standing at the front desk chewing bubble gum and staring at guests while the main hostess tried to coordinate. Felt very high school mean girls club.
Food was very meh. I had fried oysters which were okay but very one note. It wasn’t until I read other reviews here afterwards that I realized I was giving it the benefit of the doubt. Truthfully, the food tasted over fried and, like how some have mentioned, the quality really did reflect what you would expect from an airplane ride or a microwave dinner.
My wife ordered a tuna salad. It really was just a few cuts of raw tuna on top of iceberg lettuce, cucumber, and garnished with a few canned mandarins. Definitely a rip off.
To top it all off our server couldn’t have been any less interested in serving us. As soon as he took our drink orders he seemed annoyed we were his table (this being S. Carolina and, with me being Asian, I felt like it was a little racist even) and he was really short with us during the rest of our dinner. I tipped him 10% only out of courtesy (working in food service previously myself, I get it) but even that felt way overly generous. He was waiting another table as well, all white guests, and his service definitely seemed different.
They gave the other half of our party a different server who was clearly much more attentive and caring, but apparently it took them over an hour to get their food and I think they even had to take their orders twice. So yeah, the service here was really questionable.
We paid a bill of $100 bucks for our party of 3. It definitely wasn’t worth it. The atmosphere was decent but the overall service really killed anything good about it. At least the complementary hush puppies...
Read moreThis past Friday we were in town for my first Mother's Day. We come every single year. I am a new Mother with a newborn. We walked in for dinner after 8pm and I was ahead of my party by the time I got to the hostess stand to get a seat. I told her we had a party of 3 and an infant. The hostess looked at me without any greeting and pointed behind me and said "is that THING with you" speaking of my Daughters carrier that has collapsible wheels. I said "yes she is with US" she immediately exclaimed "you cannot have that thing in here at this restaurant" speaking of the carrier with wheels. I told her that it collapses and she proceeded to seat us in the tightest area in the corner. Still without any greeting. Totally rude and disrespectful. We couldn't fit with the carrier bc it was so tight against the window. We asked to be moved. We felt like we were such an inconvenience with the reactions we received from the moment we walked in. We were moved to a different table and while we may have been the last customers of the night, there were still many in the restaurant still dining. We ordered fried oysters and as soon as I bit into it my mouth filled with grease. I sent the fried oysters back and was still charged $21 for them. The food is extremely overpriced based on flavor. We are from Charleston SC and have experience in catching and cooking our own seafood and while the restaurant puts off a fancy vibe, the food could be seasoned much better. The oysters were cooked in grease that was not hot enough. When we got home I called to speak with the manager about our experience and after leaving a message I have yet to receive a callback from the manager. As a former business owner, it's insulting to know that a customer has a bad experience and a manager cannot at least return a call to find out about an experience that I hope no one else experiences. While the atmosphere is great, they aren't very welcoming to parents with babies and the hostess has an awful attitude to be the first person you see when you walk in. I have never felt so unwelcome in a business in my life. We will not be returning and Shame on management for allowing this without reaching out to the customer. Don't waste your...
