Jeni's Ice Cream is a place you go when you want to have a special treat with a lot more pizazz than your average ice cream shop or soda parlour. The wonderful flavor combinations might seem intimidating, but don't stop at only the sweet flavors! The Goat Cheese with Red Cherries is my all-time favorite ice cream of anywhere and any brand -- it is so creamy, savory and sweet; It is fabulous and I could eat a whole pint (which they do sell - wink wink). Their seasonal flavors are also pretty yummy, and I highly recommend the frosé, a summer flavor made of sorbet and rosé as well as the limoncello. I think what Jeni's does best is deliver a lot of flavor without overloading on sweetness -- there are some flavors, like ooey gooey buttercake, that are sweet (but not overly) but most are pretty mild, even with flavors such as Sea Salted Saramel and Peanut Butter with Chocolate Flecks. In terms of deals, I recommed doing the "flight". It rounds out to 3 scoops of 3 different flavors, and it is the perfect amount, plus you are able to try three flavors. It's a pretty good deal, especially when you're indifferent. As for tips on when to go to Jeni's, it's really going to depend. Most crowds will be there from the afternoon until they close, especially on the weekends or summer days. But, don't be intimidated by the line! It moves relatively quickly, and gives you time to determine which flavors you want. Plus, if you're ever in a pinch for time, you can hop over to 12th Ave South and go to a smaller, secondary location, but be warned - 12th Ave is likely to be just as busy during these hours. I’ve been to this location plenty of times and never had a bad experience, however, tonight was not great. This week, my mom, who beat thyroid cancer just over 10 years ago, was diagnosed with Leukemia. She hasn’t wanted to eat much but, knowing what a sweet tooth she has, I knew I had to walk down from Vanderbilt to get her some Gooey Butter Cake, along with multiple other flavors and received a free freezer bag. She’d never had Jeni’s before. She loved it. So today my grandmother and I walked & took the freezer bag down to Jeni’s to get another pint of Gooey Butter Cake and she had heard about the Sweet Biscuits & Peach Jam, so we planned on getting that as well. It wasn’t busy when we arrived, no one was there. We said we wanted the pint of the gooey butter cake and a pint of the Sweet Biscuits & Peach Jam. The girl went to look in the freezer for a pint of biscuit and peach jam, which I knew wasn’t already pre-packaged and thought since Jeni’s does deliveries, they could pack a pint. She told us she didn’t have anything to pack it in, that she couldn’t do that. So we just chose the Salty Caramel in place. She goes to ring us up and the price was surprisingly high for 2 pints. We saw on the freezer that if you reuse your freezer bag, you get $1 off every pint. We told her about the coupon and she acted like she had no idea so I pointed to the freezer and showed her. I had only brought a $20 bill with me so we realized we wouldn’t be able to get both anyways since they both rang up as $23, so we had to put pack one of them.
