My husband and I frequently visit killebrew for morning coffee and pastries as we live right down the street. I popped by solo while out on a dog walk the other day as it was raining and figured a tea would make my rainy walk home a bit better. When I came in (around 10 am) the sign was placed right in front of the register almost blocking it and no one was behind the counter. I double checked the hours to make sure I wasn’t losing it. I placed my tea order when 2 male employees did decide to appear. They seemed very confused by my black tea order (which I’ve gotten many times) and said it would “take a while.” I assured them I wasn’t in a rush due to the rain. I pulled out my phone and was informed that you guys don’t accept Apple Pay. The barista very bluntly told me that your establishment is card or cash only. It’s odd because both my husband and I have used Apple pay at this location before. While out on neighborhood walks, I rarely ever bring my wallet or cash with me. I’m confused as to why in 2025 Apple Pay isn’t accepted and when that switch was made? Even weirder is that the one barista said I could write down my card number and they could ring it up that way. I felt uncomfortable doing so. So you accept cards but not Apple Pay? Either way, I left feeling disappointed but stopped at the newer coffe shop inside Rooted where they greeted me warmly, gave my dog a treat, accepted Apple Pay and made a fantastic herbal tea within a minute. Rooted from here on...
Read morethis coffee shop has a very European feel to it. It has beautiful tiled floors, cute small round two tops and cushy leather banquettes. There are outlets on the side that you can plug your device into, and even the outlets are attractive! you can enter the cafe both from the street and the lobby of the Thompson hotel, so there is traffic coming from two directions. The staff were very nice and also helpful in describing their food options. You order and pay at the counter and then place your order. when it's ready you pick it up at the end of the counter. There are not a lot of places to sit. The front of the coffee shop is all window, which is really nice. You can look out onto 11th avenue and see residents and tourists walking by. I had a hand breakfast tart, which was quite nice. It's a pastry with a baked in egg and some bacon and potato. I had an iced vanilla latte which was really really yummy. My friend had the Earl grey tea, which he said was delicious and he also really enjoyed the ham and cheese croissant. We parked across the street in the parking garage where you can get one hour free parking. We went over just a little bit on our time and we ended up paying $4 for the parking. That's really not so bad considering how close it is to downtown and how price can be so high for...
Read moreThis blonde lady that works here (pretty sure she’s one of the supervisors or managers) is the most uncharismatic person ever.
It’s 2023 and they still don’t have Apple Pay which is a huge miss on their end, and they used to have pupcups and told us “they were out” on that day, but are actually now considering to “discontinue” them (and she tells you that with a nasty laugh and 0 apology while you’re there with your dog who’s best behave and makes everyone else in the store smile besides her).
I have lived in this neighborhood for 2.5 years and recently this place has given me nothing but bad vibes.
I’m 9months pregnant and since they don’t have Apple Pay I used to just read them my cc number and suddenly they can’t do that anymore so here I am waiting in line for 20mins for a decaf coffee just for them to tell me I can’t get anything without a physical card — OK, now I know but how about you still offer me a coffee for free after I waited for so long and I’ll pay you next time ?
No sense of...
