Unfortunately this is not the same 2 nd Avenue Deli from the lower East side that my father brought out family to twice a month while growing up in NY. When we walked in this place was over crowded over the maximum persons allowed. Our table for 5 had the next table pushed up again ours blocking my guests from being able to leave the table without disturbing the other table. After waiting 45 minutes for the table and my 7 year old son so hungry I quick ran around the corner with him to get a donut. Wow did this upset our waitress she immediately informed is about the rule of no outside food and we complied, however she felt the need to call the manager over to again inform us of the rules which we already agreed to. The waitress was so upset that she forgot some of our order, when it arrived. She never came back to refill drinks or all us if we needed anything. Service was terrible. When the check arrived, I looked at it and due to her attitude I was going to leave nothing but by grace and the holiday season I went ahead and left a small tip of $10. As we went to leave the restaurant this inattentive waitress freely the need to follow us out into the street and begin yelling the tip was too small. I specifically told her that it was due to her attitude and she stormed off yelling about this into the store. If I would’ve been a lesser person I would’ve went back in and asked the manager to remove the tip completely but I chose to take the high road and will not return again. This review is for their management to...
Read moreIf you’re within a 6 block radius of Murray hill, you’ve got to stop by 2nd Ave Deli! We stopped in for dinner hoping to avoid a rush, and it literally felt like we walked into the restaurant of a family member.
The complimentary coleslaw and pickles to start got our attention immediately, and it wa only up from there. We ordered a 3 decker with pastrami, corned beef, and salami and an order of fries, all to share. All of the meats were SO flavorful, with a beautiful balance between lean and fatty to perfectly balance the sandwich. No tough chewy bits, no fatty parts that we had to discard, and perfectly seasoned! The coleslaw and Russian dressing provided the perfect crunch and brightness to the sandwich, and the rye bread was sturdy yet melded so well with the other ingredients! The sandwich is $38, but don’t let that scare you. The portion size is well worth it, and you’re definitely getting your money’s worth here.
The fries were a bit bland and could have used some salt, but I added some to my sandwich (don’t judge it until you’ve tried it) and was surprised how well they fit.
To cap the meal off, we ordered a cappuccino that was absolutely delicious and a slice of chocolate babka to go. The complimentary cookies are a wonderful touch, and the employees and environment are warm and welcoming. I feel like family already, and can’t wait to go back and try more...
Read moreTheir pastrami sandwich is amazing! The deli itself is nice and cozy with plenty of seating. Prices were a bit high, though. But for some reason, the service was terrible. After asking for a table for two, we were reluctantly led to a table by a grumpy waitress. And then we waited. Not one waiter/waitress acknowledged us or asked if we needed assistance. Other tables were getting their orders taken, and the staff seemed very friendly to everyone else. It took about 15 minutes for one of the waiters to finally acknowledge us and take our order. The interaction was very brief; no introduction, no banter, no recommendations, which was unlike what we were clearly seeing the same waiter do with other tables! Our order came in pretty quickly, and we enjoyed the sandwiches a lot! But the silent treatment continued: not one of the other staff members asked if we enjoyed the food or even looked at us... It even took a while to get our waiter to get us the check. Once again, this was not the case with the other tables nearby. I am honestly very disappointed with the treatment. It was clearly the start of a busy night, and I believe the first night of Hanukkah, so I am giving the staff the benefit of the doubt here. Anyways, I hope no one else has such a terrible...
