The food here is reliably delicious. Salt and pepper squid was crispy and flavorful, and the sweet and sour fish filet is amazing. Not a fillet, but actually fried chunks, but that is not really important. My friend ordered the clay pot vermicelli and vegetable casserole and found it much to his liking. Generous portion sizes, too. Very easy to order one dish and some rice to split between two people. I've been here before and ordered dimsum dishes as well, which don't shine quite as much as the main menu options. I would say probably go elsewhere for dimsum if you can (though their main menu is available at all times so you can order off that too). I've also had their mapo tofu and the sliced beef and ox tongue and found both absolutely mouth-watering. I'd also note that, unlike many other places I've been, the food is not thinly spread on top of a bed of bok choy or lettuce, or fluffed with egregious amounts of vegetables. You'll be getting your moneys worth from every plate.
I did have an unfortunate incident today when I ordered takeout to bring to my parents - there were sharp ceramic shards embedded in the food. I don't blame the staff, as their service and food have otherwise been up to standard, and the manager (or maybe owner?? I don't know, but she was wearing mirrored sunglasses indoors which was a hell of a style choice) was very nice and offered a refund or replacement. We took the replacement, for the record. No way I'm denying someone dinner from here even if I have to wait longer.
Service can be a little slow when it gets busy, so don't come if you're starving at peak dinnertime. Otherwise very snappy preparation. I believe there is a KTV upstairs so I think the kitchen might be a little overwhelmed when there are a lot of customers up...
Read moreI like that this place is open late and the quality of the food, late night is very consistent with the quality of the food even when it is during regular eating hours. I finally tried their lobster special and boy did it not disappoint. The meat was so tender and juicy, and the Chinese style of using ginger and scallions was perfect, not too overpowering, so I could still taste how fresh the lobster was. Their Singapore Mei Fun and fish maw soup was delicious also. The service staff was very friendly and nice also, which is definitely a plus. I also recently found out that they had second floor seating, which is was very nice because they have some private rooms and 2 tables outside of the private rooms. The decor was nice and the set up felt private, yet relaxed. This place is definitely a "should...
Read moreThis was my first time attending a luncheon at the 698 Cafe hosted by my local church in Flushing. I was impressed by the exceptional service and quality of the food. They served us at least 13 glorious dishes each with its unique taste. Our feast started with Roast Duck, Preserved Eggs, and Crabmeat with Fish Maw Soup. Then followed by Lobster (omg, it was so delicious that we nearly finished it before taking a picture :-), Boiled Shrimp, Fish Filet with Spicy Sauce, Lamp Chops, Angus Beef with Asparagus, Crispy Fried Chicken, Spare Ribs, Steamed Sea Bass, Vancouver Crab with Glutinous Rice, and Water Spinach with Bean Curd. I look forward to trying their dinner dishes very soon. Thank you for the...
