I'm not sure if I had a meal or if it was just a big pile of salt. It doesn't matter if people are running an Asian-fusion restaurant, unless they say they are primarily a Vietnamese restaurant, and they do not serve any real Vietnamese dishes. They also claim to be Japanese and the quality of their dishes were seriously lacking.

Naming a dish, "Vietnamese fried rice" or "Vietnamese Satay" does not make it Vietnamese. I reluctantly refer to the beef soup as Phở Bò, as it was likely from a prepackaged batch. They also threw around "Thai" or other countries onto the dish names.

An'Nam also call themselves Japanese. I think the sushi Maki rolls were made in a press. The salmon had an oily and wet appearance, on the 2 different rolls I ordered. That's a pretty bad sign. The Toro was fine.

The miso soup was really salty, as if they made it with seawater. They seem to have the idea that adding a lot of salt can mask poor quality. They did the same thing with the rock shrimp tempura. It was like that time in elementary school when I was dared to lick a rock of salt for God knows how long. I must have massively raised my blood pressure from this meal.

An'Nam should call themselves "Asian-Fusion", but they certainly do not know how to cook Vietnamese and Japanese food. I'm just glad I didn't have any of their Thai dishes, out of fear of how they might screw that up too.

There is the term, "cultural appropriation", which doesn't fit in this circumstance. I would call it "cultural misappropriation", because they are so bad at...

I've walked by An'Nam a bunch over the years going to theatre or other restaurants nearby, but didn't go there until recently. I'm always a little wary of Asian fusion restaurants that have multiple Asian cuisines, because it always seems like they don't do all their cuisines that well. An'Nam has Chinese, dim sum, Japanese, Thai, and Vietnamese food on their pretty big menu.

I can't speak about the other cuisines they offer, but my friend and I got some sushi rolls and I also got the Age Tofu, and we enjoyed our food! And the prices for said items were very affordable, too, so that's always a plus, especially in the Times Square area.

We were in a bit of a rush, too, having a show to go to (but luckily across the street). I wouldn't say our food came out quickly, but it wasn't too long, and we had enough time to eat comfortably, and they brought our check pretty quickly after we asked for it.

We also were able to sit in their outdoor dining area, even though they didn't have their heat on and expected everyone to dine inside. But I'm not comfortable with indoor dining at this time, so I'm very glad they allowed us to sit outside nonetheless, and we kept our winter coats on and it was fine. And we were the only ones out there, so it felt pretty safe COVID-wise. So, I thank them for that.

Great service, decent sushi rolls. I'll be interested in trying some of their other food items sometime...

We got the tip to go there from the lady selling the tickets for the Stand Up Comedy (Comedy Central) on Times Square (CBS News / the Paramount building). She said that the food was so good and it looked as if angels had prepared the meals. Moreover, she said that prices were reasonable and the lunch deals were even cheaper. What can I say? EVERYTHING she said is true!!! Lunch deals start at 12,95$ and you can get them until 4 PM (we got there at 3:30 PM). We are talking FRESH VEGGIES here not frozen veggies. There is even a Happy Hour for drinks until 7 PM (e.g. a bottle of beer for 5$). But most important: THE FOOD IS JUST GREAT! We had three Lunch Deals and a Kitchen Benton Lunch. Even though we actually did not want a dessert, we still had it and - no surprise here either - it was also great. Such a place just around the corner from Times Square sounds unreal? Yes, it does! But it's real for sure. We know, now you know, too. Have a look at the photos. And don't forget to go there a.s.a.p. Might be overcrowded soon 😉
