Overall 10 out of 10! My new favorite upscale restaurant in Nomad. Dined here on a Friday night with friends. Before we headed to Bazaar, we grabbed some drinks at the lobby since we have about 10 minutes before our reserved time slot. The atmosphere is welcoming and the ambience is superb! Paying attention to details, those frames attached to the walls got stories to tell. The friendly staff will tell you, just ask. They seemed to be so knowledgable of the history of the Ritz although this new location has just been recently open about 5 months ago (first location is at Central Park). We got the chance to meet the General Manager, Andrew. He’s friendly and we were welcomed warmly. There was another Manager named Christina - she’s sweet & nice. We then walked up to Bazaar restaurant and greeted by the hostess, Scarlet whom seated us between the window and the bar area - perfect spot I must say. Again, we were welcomed with a big smile. We started off with some grilled edemame which we like (I would rate it 9/10). We had the cotton candy foie gras which was quite appealing! The moment I saw it on Instagram, I was sold! Very delish! (rating it 10/10). Croquetas de Pollo were just okay (still deserves a 7/10). The Japanese sea urchin cone was the bomb! Great job Jose Andres! Must try! (10/10). Jose’s Tacos is the star of the show! It was prepared tableside, very creative. The tacos consist of fried quail egg with Iberico ham from which the server explained that the Iberico pig only was acorn-fed, thus making this a delish ham and not to mention, I think it was topped off with some gold & caviar. If i can give this a rating of 11 out 10, I would so its 10/10. I’ve added that to my list of favorites. Definitely get the Wagyu airbed! (10/10) It was prepared perfectly! Now, on to the main event! Our knowledgable server Valentina shared that the special of the day was the “Turbot fish” which came directly from France. For the price of it, it was well worth it. She started by showcasing the fish to us before it was cooked which we were thrilled so we took pictures. The outcome did not disappoint! Super fresh and the green sauce compliments the fish (10/10 of course). The food quality is consistently outstanding, exceeding my expectations. The Executive Chef Victor stopped by our table about 2 times, ensuring everything goes well & it sure did. We told him the experience was top-notch from the food to all the booze we ordered. There were other items on my list to order that we did not get a chance to order since we were full already. Next time, I wanted to try their baby squid tempura, oyster and tuna tartare, honey-miso eggplant, rossetaj negra and grilled caranibero. Now I really have a reason to go back to Bazaar. Shoutout to the talented bartenders-Jay, Steve and Jhon. The craft-cocktails they made were awesome and were served with such brilliant presentation. For drinks, make sure to order “around the world in 80 days” - it got some slice of Iberico ham. Margarita de Grana is also great as well as “The Modifier”. We ordered “Ultimate G&T” several times as it’s straightforward great! Final thoughts….The Bazaar truly got awesome staff with great food offering. Highly recommended! Can’t...
Read moreMy friend & I were really excited to try this new restaurant from Jose Andres. We’ve been to a few of his others, and this one just opened up in New York. We always go to a fancy dinner for our birthdays since we’re both Leo’s and thought this was the perfect way to end Leo season. Overall, I’d give this place a 3/5. We ate some things we loved, and some things we didn’t.
The drinks were delicious but insanely overpriced. The most affordable cocktail on the menu is $25 and the most expensive I think was around $50. While they taste great, It just seemed really pricey especially if you want multiple cocktails at dinner. The service was impeccable, and the staff was great. The only issue we had was that there were way too many people working. They seem to get in the way of each other since there’s so many of them around. I just felt like someone was always coming to our table which is nice when you want someone attentive but it became excessive. The food quality overall was good but mostly over priced. The portions were decent to share but our waiter recommended 4-6 plates per person. Average prices were $20 - $40 for small plates. So let’s talk more about the food… Overall, we were pleased with the flavors and presentation. Our favorite dishes were the Cotton Candy O-Toro, Wagyu Air Bread, Ensaladilla de Bogavante, and Croquetas de Jamon. I liked the table-side Jamon but was disappointed when they didn’t cut by the table. Skip the Pork Skin Chicharron & the Honey Miso Eggplant. I hated the Honey Miso Eggplant! I had to tell the chef and he advised that he believed it was made wrong and he was very apologetic. One of the biggest issues I had with this restaurant was the lack of birthday celebration. My friend and I went to celebrate our birthdays and we wrote in the notes and they asked us when we checked in what we were celebrating. The receptionist seemed to write it down and made a note, but we were never told happy birthday by the waiter and when we ordered dessert, they didn’t add anything special. That was a big disappointment as I feel like if you’re going to have a restaurant like this, you should make it more of an experience. We had visited the restaurant Veronika last year for our birthdays, and they made us feel so special that we still talk about it! For an over $500 bill that should’ve been an easy add-on. The restaurant was very beautiful but the lighting was very dark and not great to take photos. If you’re looking to get great images, it’s difficult with the poor lighting. We had to use our flash for most.
So, would I recommend the bazaar? I’d say it depends. If you want a nice restaurant with decent Spanish Asian fusion food and you have money to spare, I’d say go for it. I don’t think...
Read moreLocated on the second floor of the Ritz Carlton NoMad, The Bazaar is an outpost of Chef José Andrés’s Japanese-Spanish fusion restaurants. The restaurant is beautiful - dark blue and burgundy tones, modern with its marble table tops and feather-motif chandeliers, traditional with its array of old-world oil paintings. We had an early reservation to celebrate our anniversary, so the restaurant was still relatively empty, but it was pretty crowded by the time we left.
The menu is pretty large and most items are meant to be shared. Ordering can be tricky though as some dishes were tiny and amuse bouche-like (e.g. Ikura Royal Cone) while others were entrée size and very filling (e.g. Rossejat). If you’re not sure I would highly recommend that you ask for guidance from the waitstaff. Our waiter, Nicholas, did an excellent job and made sure that we did not order too much. We ended up ordering ten dishes (mostly small) and were concerned about the pacing of the meal, but the worries were unwarranted. The food came out in well-spaced waves making sure that we were not rushed, and we never had too many plates on the table at once.
Overall, we found the food to be superb - flavorful, thoughtfully constructed, and beautifully presented - everything we really expected from Chef Andrés restaurant. What made the entire experience really special though was that we asked the sommelier, Alex, to pair our food with sherry, and he did an outstanding job. We usually enjoy sherry as a digestif, so given that The Bazaar has quite a few sherries and pours them by the half-glass, we thought that this was a great opportunity for us to explore pairing sherry with food. The restaurant wasn’t very crowded, so Alex took the time to talk about each sherry and explain why he thought it would go well with our dish. His efforts really made our anniversary memorable and special. On a similar note, we thought that Nicholas was really superb as well. He was friendly, welcoming, professional, and thoughtful throughout the evening. We are truly grateful to both of them.
If you want to try highlights of their menu, the first floor Bazaar Bar serves some of the more popular, lighter dishes from the restaurant menu (I’ve added photos) and is a nice place to get a drink if you arrive early for your reservation. It does get crowded though, so that’s something to consider.
We are very glad that we chose The Bazaar for our anniversary dinner and would not...
