I was a devoted fan of Maison Kayser and when it closed all its locations in the city during Covid, I was devastated. Imagine my delight when I heard that the pastry chef of MK is opening his own bakery.
I have been a customer since day 3 of Bread Story's opening, and each time I go I get more and more disappointed as the food does not resemble the quality of MK: the almond croissant is soggy, the chocolate almond croissant is soggy, pain au chocolat is also soggy. One can't reasonably enjoy these without taking them home and heat in oven at 395 degrees for 5 to 8 mins. Ham and cheese croissant and spinach and cheese croissant are strangely chewy, and somehow just do not taste as satisfying as the MK version. Croque monsieur becomes a poofy messy as soon as one dips a fork in it, and I'm not sure if they use emmental or gruyère, but again, it is a shadow of its MK version.
Madeleines are rubbery. I highly recommend someone from Bread Story to go to Starbucks and purchase of pack of three from them and compare and contrast. Macarons are intensely sugary which makes detecting any other flavors a challenge and at almost the same price as Ladurée.
Lastly, multiple times I have observed employees using the same gloves to touch pastries, then the register, then handing change to a customer and then serving the next customer. Certain employees also reuse the same piece of wax paper over and over again and refolding them while handling pastries. Why? If gloves and paper are too costly for single use, can't tongs be...

They offered different choices of ice cream, when I asked for a taste, they gave me me a no. When I asked for cones they said they didn't have any no information. I ordered then they didn't show me anything asked me to pay. After I did I was handed luke warm ice cream cups pre-made. We were disappointed to say the least. There was no "scooping" we left there with vegan ice cream that was melted, and it felt like we were bamboozled never were we told what we were buying. When we spoke to the guy he was like the other place went out of business and we took over.
Hours later my kid is throwing up all over and his tummy aches. I found out from another mom who visited that day her daughter is ALSO sick. When she approached the van they said they were conserving energy and that is the reason why the ice cream was not really chilled. How is this ok??? They knowingly served kid ice cream that wasn't properly...
