I was waiting for a special day to try the bresaola sandwich (a splurge at $16 + $1.50 for the choice of ciabatta). I was hoping for a big, stacked sandwich with toasted bread but it was untoasted and just the size of a roll from a bodega. By the time I walked 3 blocks to work with it, it was soggy from the red peppers and had so much mozzarella you could barely taste the other ingredients. I love mozz but it was so wet and overcheesed I couldn't even finish it and I was inexplicably charged $23.78?? Even with tax and a credit card surcharge the sandwich shouldn't have been more than $19 and change. I would've left a tip of my own volition despite the fact that the staff was standoffish and disinterested, but I wasn't even given the option. Don't waste your money here.

I had stopped by after seeing all the high ratings and I had got a sandwich called Vito, which is salami, mozzarella, artichokes and Olive paste. Overall the sandwich was quite large and weighing in at about $17 so I did feel like I got my money's worth... Full for the rest of the day... The sandwich itself was tasty and the staff was friendly. One minor note that the olive paste was slightly watery I like it a little bit more briny..not the end of the world...Very cozy spot overall, and plenty of seating I would definitely go back and try their other sandwiches. A nice change of pace and clever mix of ingredients... I have not seen that before... Very Italian feel to the restaurant!

Our favorite place. We drive down from Westchester every Saturday to have dinner and a glass of wine with our favorites, Peter & Zoe! It’s like sitting in my grandmothers kitchen full of seeded semolina, people who care about how your day went and good wine. From their hot food to their sandwiches, their foods amazing and made with love. We’ve put Cappone’s in our weekly rotation not only for the food but the feeling we have after leaving each week. Freshly sliced cold cuts, fried egg plant and bread. Litterally everything you’d want from a saaanngwhich shop & more. Plenty of options for those who do not eat red meat. A must try if you’re in the area.

Revised elaborate review over 4 visits.

10/15/24: blackbird event day. 5 stars!

The Ernesto sandwich bread was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, just the way i like it. It had a substantial amount of quality ingredients that the sandwich was 3-4 inches of solid hard thickness. The ingredients are super fresh, delicious and healthy. Most importantly, it's made with their secret ingredient: ❤️.

I can't wait to try the rest of their sandwiches. 🔥

I'm also excited to make this place my local regular spot.

10/16/24: 4 stars.

We went back the following day during dinner time. We decided to try their Napoli sandwich and Chicken parmigiana sandwiches.

The Napoli sandwich was on par with the Ernesto sandwich in quality, but I prefer the Ernesto more.

The chicken parmigiana was dry, thin, under seasoned, lots of breading, and wasn't crispy. Not my cup of tea.

We tipped nicely for good service.

10/17/24: 3 stars.

We went back the 3rd day during lunch. We ordered 2 Ernestos. The sandwiches showed up with the wrong cheese and half the prosciutto & cheese content from the pervious days. And even we inquired if the cheese was fresh mozerella, he said it was, but it was sliced provolone. Then we asked why he have us half a sandwich. So then he quickly sliced a fresh ball of mozerella & prosciutto to make up the difference. We tipped them for restoring the sandwich to it's prior glory. Then we witness the cook & clerk got into a spat over the tip. Clearly the kitchen wasn't running as smoothly at that point.

10/21/24: 1 star.

We went back the 4th time (around 2pm), but waited a few days in the hopes of them clearing whatever internal issues they had. We ordered Ernesto sandwiches, but this time the sandwiches was 1/3 of it's original thickness and the ingredients were of lower quality. The bread had a bleach flavor to it, the prosciutto had the fridge flavor (possibly older meat that wasn't stored well). Usually I can only manage to finish half the sandwich, but this time I can finish the entire sandwich.

I took a look at all the neighbor's sandwiches and they all looked 1/3 of it's original size.

I didn't feel like having a confrontation with the staff every time I have a meal here. So i paid for my meal, dined in and didn't tip and have no plans on ever eating here again in the near future. I'm disappointed that their quality had plummeted within a week since blackbird promotional event. The only thing worse than the sharp decline in the food quality and quantity is having to deal with the nasty facial expressions of the boys working behind the counter. They clearly knew what they were doing and they clearly knew who we were. After 1 week. 2 thumbs down.

The only people who should come to this restaurant is Gordan Ramsey and his staff for an episode of kitchen nightmares to straighten them out.

A word of advice, serve smaller sandwiches during the promotion so you don't raise people's expectations and then serve larger sandwiches regularly. This way you develop a loyal following of costumers. What you guys did is a perfect way to destroy you brand. I really didn't know about Cappone's before the blackbird event, but now I'll be sure to tell everyone to steer clear until you get your act together. I look forward to your business's improvement and best of luck....

3.5/5 A tasty sandwich overall for sure, with a few hang ups.

This may have been a miscommunication on my part but judging by the pictures I assumed the sandwiches would be warm (panini pressed?) but mine was cold. I don't know if this is because I chose the focaccia instead of the regular hero roll or because I didn't specify warm. The sliced chicken and the sundried tomatoes were noticeably salty, on the other hand the focaccia bread was fresh, fluffy and flavorful, and balsamic glaze went well with the other ingredients in the sandwich.

Was also a bit confused by the layout when I walked in? At around 12pm music was blasting, I assumed it was a bar and that I'd walked into the wrong place. Guys everywhere were still setting things up even though they opened over an hour ago and the sandwich making station seemed tucked away in one tiny corner, wasn't sure if Cappone's and the bar were connected/affiliated, if Cappone's was just doing it's own thing, nor was I sure if I could sit at the tables inside. They gave me my sandwich wrapped as if to-go so I just left.

Worth trying if you're already in the area and willing to spend $15-$20+ on a sandwich, but nothing worth going out of...

The sandwiches are great, and so is the staff. The gentleman at the register was quick but friendly - it's like things happened quickly, but I didn't feel rushed.

Look for long lines during weekday lunch hours, but the fast and effective service makes things go pretty quickly. Despite the long list of sandwiches (there seems to be something for everyone, including vegetarian or vegan options) the staff makes the sandwiches very efficiently. The drink selection is pretty good, with Hal's seltzer, Snapple, and other choices.

Unfortunately, last time I took a sandwich to go they gave me the wrong sandwich - they put the wrong sandwich in the bag with my name on it which also had the correct sandwich name written on it). Despite this, I'll probably be back to get the Caponne (what I ordered last time, but did not...
