Cinco de Mayo Bayside — Restaurant in New York

Cinco de Mayo never disappoints. I was a frequent visitor when they were located further up bell blvd and after they relocated to where they currently are. It's been a few years since I visited, and after my visit this weekend, I needed to make sure a review was given.

Establishment has a full bar when you first walk in with seating along the side, opening up to a decent size seating area towards the back. Clean bathrooms and TVs mounted showing different sports stations. They play Spanish music.

Came for Cinco de Mayo, literally, with a party of 4. They were pretty busy, but we were seated right away. Prices are in line with other restaurants in the area; appetizers and entrees ranging from $9 - $30, with seafood meals costing more than the meat. They provide water and chips with salsa for the table. Chips are not salty, and salsa has a little spice kick to it.

For eats, we had the guacamole with chips, calamari with Chipotle mayo, beef empanadas, and chicken flautas entree. Everything was tasty, fresh, and flavorful. They make the guacamole fresh and bring it in the classic black morter bowl with a wooden spoon to scoop out onto your plate. You can make your guac as spicy as you want. I've had the chimichangas and sizzling fajita entrees in the past and recommend these as well.

Their drinks are spot on. We always get the frozen margaritas. They offer a variety of flavors and sizes too. We got the regular size margarita, $13 each. We also got a virgin mango margarita for $8.

There were 4 people dining. We ordered 2 burritos - one steak and one shrimp - but there was more rice in the burritos than anything else. Steak was chopped up very small and basically nonexistent in the first burrito and there were only 3 shrimp in the other. We also ordered a taco salad but there was more rice in the “salad” than actual lettuce, which was confusing because it’s supposed to be a salad, not a rice bowl with lettuce on top. Last, my mother ordered fajitas and tried to ask the server to place the sizzling hot plate on her right side because she’s unable to use her left hand at the moment and didn’t want to burn herself, to which he yelled at her saying that she “is messing up what he’s doing”, slammed the plate down on her left side despite the request then walked away with a huff and an attitude. Overall our server was rude and generally ignored us which is unfortunate because we were 1 of only 2 parties in the place. Despite the terrible service we still tipped him 20% thinking maybe he was just having a bad day, but when we got up to leave and said goodbye he didn’t respond to us at all, instead picked up the cash making a face to show his displeasure with the amount he received, rolled his eyes and walked away. 2 stars overall bc the food was tasty and the restaurant is clean, but customer service was...

Absolutely disgraceful service. Our Waiter was miserable from the start and not friendly. Our appetizers came quickly but after that our waiter abandoned us to a party in the backroom (we were seated at a table across from the bar at the entrance). He dissapeared for over 30 minutes staring at the walls that even a nice young woman came to our table and asked if everything was okay. My wife explained in español what happened and that we weren't okay. We finally saw our waiter come out from the back and waved him over and we asked him what happened. He got agitated and belligerent and said he had the back room party to take care of which is a ridiculous excuse. I explained then he should not be our server up front if he has all these people in the back that take all his time. Another waiter brought our food now after 40 minutes plus yet our waiter never apologized and gave us a take it or leave it attitude so we decided to leave it. We will not tolerate being treated like basura. Food was average at best and service abysmal. For that alone I would say to all reading this to avoid cinco de mayo as they treat you like garbage and expect you to like it. We left in disgust.
