During one of my walks around the neighborhood, I finally decided to try this small café located on the corner of quiet 34th Ave and 33 Street in Astoria. I’ve walked by a few times since they opened in late January but have never been inside until today. They have a few small café tables outside and along with some cool looking wall art. The inside is small but clean, with lots of sun exposure, and has a cool, laid back vibe. They do offer indoor seating and there are 2-3 small tables to left of the entrance as well as bar seating along the right. Even though it is a small place, it did not feel claustrophobic. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the lady behind the counter. She was so helpful and friendly. I came around 6pm and it looked like most of their pastries were already gone.
I ended up ordering a couple empanadas (Hawaiian and the spinach). Both had a nice delicate, flaky crust. I really liked the Hawaiian empanada and appreciated that it was on the menu, as you do not often see this offered at other cafes. I also got the Oreo Mousse which had hazelnut praline, vanilla cream on a chocolate cake base and topped with Oreo pieces. It was wonderfully creamy, sweet and hazelnutty.
The menu also offers other heartier fare like burgers, sandwiches, and salads. I really need to do another visit when they have more items out. Plus, I just realized that I did not even try any of their hot beverages…doh! As usual, I was distracted by food and forgot about ordering a beverage. That is okay though, I like supporting local businesses and Coffee Avenue is a nice addition to this...
Read moreI have been living in Astoria for almost a year now and finding Coffee Avenue has been the highlight of my time here. Not only is their iced oat latte the best I've ever had, but the real gem of this place is their employee Spyridoula. From the moment I walk in, she greets me with a smile and a warm welcome that makes me feel like family. Her energy and great sense of humor make every visit a pleasure!!
Spyridoula always remembers my order and makes sure it's made to perfection, every single time. I've been coming here almost 5x a week for the past year and every time is just as wonderful as the last.
I can't write a review of Coffee Avenue without mentioning their delicious food! Their croissants are flaky and buttery, the perfect complement to their outstanding coffee. But my absolute favorite has to be the bacon egg and cheese. It's always cooked to perfection, with just the right amount of cheese and the bacon is crispy and flavorful. I've tried other items on their menu as well, and everything I've had has been delicious.
In short, Coffee Avenue is a must-visit for anyone who loves great coffee and fantastic food. With the added bonus of Spyridoula's warm and friendly service, it's truly the complete package. I can't recommend it enough!
Thank you, Coffee Avenue and Spyridoula, for always...
Read moreI have a place next door and i was out of coffee at home. I decided to drop by erly ish around 8:30am yesterday Saturday Feb 11th. I went in said a loud smiling good morning and i was completely ignored, i stood there for about 10 minutes no response. The greek speaking girl was chit chatting away with a greek speaking young man outside the counter. He was clearly pushing on asking her out. A second girl was making croissant sandwiches behind the counter and obviously did not turn her head up when I approached her with a smiling good morning for the third time. I am greek my self so I thought i d exclaim something in greek and leave them frozen. But I resisted the temptation. Its a lovely morning I thought. Keep it this way. When she finally came the flirting one, she took my order and asked for $7,08 for a dirty almond chai, that is chai with a shot if expresso. I said “good morning! I didn’t know that I should bring my check book for this transaction “! She looked at me truly clueless, never said good morning and continued about her important business! I paid and waited for my drink. Half way lukewarm drink. I say, you shouldn’t be in business! Never ever again! Even if i have to drive on the other side of...
