Crispy Heaven? Pretty darn close to it. It's rare that I travel somewhere and get "stuck" on a place to eat, trying new places is the interesting part of travel, but this was one of them. I had breakfast here every day
The Food: Overall, great breads and food - I've only had breakfast. Baguettes were light, had an airy structure, and a crisp exterior. They were, in my opinion, as good as what you'll find in France in a quality boulangerie.
The other breads were also standouts, especially the cinnamon raisin roll!!! Oh la la la...packed with raisins and walnuts, fluffy interior, and such a nice crust on the exterior. I was given one for takeaway and it was nice and warm - if you were to hit the exterior with a knife you'd hear a "ting" and it crackles when you bite into it. It is an item that can stand on its own, nothing else needed.
The only bakery item that I wasn't enamored with was the chocolate chip cookie. My critique and recommendation is to add some more salt, either to the batter or on top. It was missing that salty tang to make it "sing".
The food was quality and worth the cost - again, note that I've only had breakfast. Eggs cooked perfectly and bacon not too crispy or limp. My critique here is on the frittata - the potatoes were a tad under cooked and I couldn't taste the spicy Italian peppers. I'd either leave the peppers out of the cooking process and save them as a side, or keep them and add them as a side. The frittata needed that hint of acid and heat to also make it "sing".
The Service: Everyone was friendly and the food came out quickly. The woman at the front doubles as the barista, so it might take a minute to get your order in. But the team in the back cooking the food and baking the bread are stars in my book - that's where the magic happens.
Small critique here would be to replace the "coffee and drinks" sign with the menu. My first time, it wasn't immediately obvious where the menu was or how much the bakery items cost. I'd also put some kind of labels in the case so people know what's in there.
The Atmosphere: It's small but cozy, and I overheard there is a new location in the works. On a hot/humid day, sit under or near a fan. There is outdoor, covered seating. Before getting a seat, you need to order...and I've seen them...
Read moreFantastic, only thing better than the bread was the service. I got here devastatingly late, (I had a bit of a disaster trying to get bread at another spot. We don't need to get into it. Humiliated myself trying to leave through what I thought was the door but was in fact a window, everyone saw it, anyway why are we talking about this) but even though they were closing up shop these sweet saintly angel people let me come in and check out the loaves they had left. The woman at the register was amazing, she talked me through all of the different options and I selected half a loaf of the miche which she said was one of her favorites. Look at the picture. Is that not the most beautiful bread you've ever seen? It's so pure, it's like hobbit bread, it's perfection. Can confirm it's not just about its good looks- great flavor, nice sharpness with a little honey taste, slight char on the crust (much to my preference) and inside the texture is just plush and soft, the farthest thing from dry, perfect for anything, toasts, sandwiches, whatever else bread is used for. The thing is MASSIVE so I'm freezing some, I can't even imagine how many people a full loaf would feed. But truly, it is top quality. And to top it all off, when I bought it they gave me a free baguette! Which apparently won an award last year for the best in the city, I'd say it deserves it. Best baguette I've had in awhile, and didn't go stale immediately the way they tend to. Highly recommend this spot. I will be back for the rest...
Read moreBest poolish bread, poolish baguette and caraway and potato baguette, soft in the middle with a crispy crust and tastes great. These breads are so warm and always so fresh. Fel, the owner did mention that she bakes fresh ones every few hours. I have been buying them every week now and these are easily the best sourdoughs. I went at 5.30pm and the store was closing in less than an hour but I still got warm baguettes just out of the oven. I loved the almond flour cake, it is light and not too sweet. Just a simple dessert, so tasty and gluten free needed after all the indulgence. Their cookie is also amazing, super soft, warm and pretty huge! I had a slice of almond flour dessert with flat white and it was perfect. Coffee here is just so good! We also tried their burrata plate. It was their bread sampler with burrata, butter(they make their own butter and it's SO good!),olive oil, heirloom tomatoes sautéed in olive oil and basil. The plate was just so fresh and delicious. Burrata was great and their breads are undoubtedly the best! They are making pizzas from this weekend. I can't go back for their pizzas and focaccia. I am pretty sure it will be amazing. The place is so nicely done, has a rustic and lovely decor, tables to work and such friendly staff. I met Fel and she is so sweet. Her desire to bake these wonderful breads with so much love and passion is just amazing. I love everything about this place. I will keep going back to try...
