It was after a long day of meetings, early evening, just when the air in the city starts to soften and the pace thins that I first wandered into Dae Day Coffee on Lexington Ave. I hadnât planned on staying long. But something about the scent in the air, rich with grounded chocolate and toast, pulled me in deeper.
Thereâs a modesty to the space. Small, pared back, almost easy to miss if youâre not lookingâbut what it lacks in scale, it makes up for in something rarer: warmth without performance. You donât feel watched here. You feel welcomed.
I ordered a flat white, paired with an almond croissant, and sat near the window. The espresso was well-tempered: bold but not brash, with that layered richness that speaks more to patience than flash. The croissant was golden and crisp, with a delicate interior that leaned just sweet enough. I returned a few days later and tried the iced drip, this time with a plain croissant. The Brazilian roast they used had tasting notes of chocolate, honey, and dried fruit, the kind of profile that lingers at the back of the tongue and hums quietly even after the last sip.
What struck me most, though, was the care. Amina, Zachary, and Sam were behind the counter both times I visited and each brought a kind of thoughtful steadiness you rarely find. They werenât just pouring drinks; they were curating moments. Zachary, in particular, offered a brief but thoughtful breakdown of the beans; no pretense, just genuine knowledge. Aminaâs kindness felt instinctive, and Samâs calm presence grounded the whole exchange.
One small detail stayed with me long after I leftâthe clay mugs. Handcrafted, weighty, and imperfect in the best way. They made the drink feel more like a ritual than a routine.
And for those who enjoy quiet rituals, ask for a business card for a little treat.
The space itself isnât designed to impress. Itâs compact, utilitarian. A few stools, a bar, soft lighting. But if you view cafĂŠs as extensions of the people who run them, then Dae Day reflects exactly what it should: unforced, sincere, and quietly remarkable.
In a city that often pushes you to rush, this place lets you pause. And if youâre the kind who listens closely to your coffee its texture, its temperature, the way it holds its flavor between silences, youâll find Dae Day worth returning to. I...
Read moreThis disgusting coffee was delivered this afternoon--- we are spoiled where we come from where the coffee culture is strong and vibrant with many variety- whatever this was today not only was it NOT whole milk it was a watery under extracted sour MESS!!!! IT HAS BEEN IMPOSSIBLE to find good coffee in this city or at peast consistently good- SUCH a dissapoinent. If offering online services it would be much improved to update descriptions of what roasts and origins are being used. The blend is clearly a very light acidic one but the bad extraction and low quality of wjat shpuld be cows milk (and what good coffee doesnt offer breve omg) really ruined this for us despite the pastries being some of the best for what we have tried so far.
I suppose like the photos of the cafe this coffee is prepared just as souless and without care - results in the waste of money to toss two 10$ coffees straight...
Read moreA 4.5 star review : I've been meaning to try Day Day Coffee, and I'm so glad I finally did! The matcha latte with oat milk was incredibly creamy and delicious, and the cappuccino was perfectly brewed. The space itself is very aesthetic, making it a great spot to grab a cup of coffee and catch up with friends. The staff is also super friendly, adding to the welcoming atmosphere. My only complaint is the seating area, which is quite small, accommodating only 10-12 people at a time. But the real downside is the price point - $14 for two items is a bit steep, even for high-quality coffee. That being said, I'd still highly recommend Day Day Coffee for its excellent drinks and charming atmosphere. Just be prepared for a bit...
