I gotta admit, I went here based on a Google search of "country music bars in nyc" and the name. Who wouldn't go?
The Good: The jukebox had some great country music and the credits were cheap! No Chopin, but $5 got me more plays than I cared to use. The music is loud (good). There is also a pool table. The handwritten signs are endearing and ironic. Combined with the marker graffiti, you feel like you're in a dive bar.
The Bad: No lock on a unisex bathroom is crazy work! I had a scuffle with a drunk local(?) while I watched the door with my little sister inside. I merely blocked his entry, for him to clapback with an escalating "don't put your hands on me bro". What an ugly thing to say to me. Does this mean we can't be friends? S/o to the doorman who did come for back up, but the guy who cause the problem didn't get kicked out and DID IT AGAIN to another girl. Maybe he was just foolin about, but I wasn't.
For all the handwritten signs, lack of bathroom locks, and zero frills, the audacity to charge $7 for a macro brew light beer is very cosmopolitan.
There must be a rule for the bartender to say the least amount of words possible. When asking for the beer on the glowing neon sign in the window I simply got a finger pointing up to the beer selection. I get it, you deal with a bunch of drunks in a dive bar it starts to wear on you. But I was sober as a goat and this is the business you're in!
I calculate that's the end of this review. I'd be lying if I said I won't come back. Seems like my hypocrisy...
Read moreThe miserable female bartender with dirty blonde curly hair haggling us over tips mid drink was ridiculous. We ordered drinks I paid and let her know we were planning on !!ordering more drinks!! right after. 2 sips into our drinks she comes and lets us know with a aggressive attitude that we hadnât tipped. I am a waiter and my friend is a bartender in NYC, and I explained to her I donât expect people to tip mid meal and my friend doesnât expect people to tip mid drink (especially because we were ordering more, if we order three rounds are we tipping her 3 times??). REGARDLESS WE STILL TIPPED HER! The bartender still caught in an attitude and starting making snarky comments after we tipped her like âHave you ever been to a bar before?â She seems miserable and quite frankly not very good at the job. I understand what kind of bar Docs is, and Iâve been many times. Itâs gritty, rough, bartenders have an edge, but this one is flat out a miserable pan handler. Not much separating her from the homeless woman outside begging...
Read moreMy friend lives down the block from this bar and last night ( Monday, April 28th, around 11:00-11:30 pm ) she stumbled into this bar. we were both drinking already & I was ready to call it a night, knowing she was going to stay with people she had met and buy drinks. My bf came to pick me up and asked the bartender if I could have a water. The bartender who was a woman, Caucasian, brown hair ( sadly didnât get her name ) was extremely rude & said â this is a bar not a water fountainâ. Disgusting. ( again itâs a Monday night so the bar was practically empty, she was not busy). Will never come to this bar again. There are PLENTY of bars in the area. Iâm 30 & never In my life have I ever had a bartender refuse to give just water ? Itâs free in NY. If I was the owner of the bar I would prob let this bartender go. Do you know how many great bartenders there are in NY? Or just around the area? Thatâs what keeps customers loyal. Shitty ones like her are what gives a place bad reviews. Sheâs bad...
