My recent lunch at Edwards in Tribeca was an unequivocally negative experience, one that I feel compelled to share to warn others. As an African American New Yorker, I was profoundly disturbed by the blatant disregard and prejudiced treatment I received from the wait staff, particularly from our waiter, Oscar. The entire interaction left me feeling unwelcome and disrespected, a sentiment that no diner should ever encounter, especially in a city as diverse as New York.
From the moment we were seated, the atmosphere felt unwelcoming. Our waiter, Oscar, whose ethnicity appeared to be Latino, displayed an astonishing level of dismissiveness. He consistently refused to make eye contact or acknowledge anything I said, treating me as if I were invisible or insignificant.
This behavior was not merely inattentive; it felt deliberate and targeted. When I repeatedly inquired about the lunch specials, Oscar finally snapped at me, acknowledging that he had heard me the first two times, a response that was both rude and unprofessional. The same pattern repeated itself at the conclusion of the meal when I requested the receipt; Oscar rolled his eyes and was extremely dismissive. This level of disrespect is simply unacceptable and suggests a deeper issue within the establishment's service culture. Such discriminatory practices are not only morally reprehensible but also legally problematic, as they violate anti-discrimination laws designed to protect individuals from such treatment in public accommodations.
Beyond the appalling service, the pricing at Edwards is egregiously high, especially for the Tribeca area. Appetizers are priced identically to sandwiches and entrees, which is an absurd pricing strategy that offers no value to the customer. For instance, a simple appetizer costing the same as a main course is a clear indication of inflated prices that do not align with the quality or portion sizes offered. This pricing structure, coupled with the abysmal service, makes Edwards an establishment I would strongly advise against. While I work in the vicinity, I will unequivocally not be returning to Edwards, and I urge others to consider alternative dining options in Tribeca that offer both quality food and, more importantly, respectful and...
Read moreWhile we were in the Tribeca area of Manhattan we stopped by Edward's restaurant for lunch. It's a nice sized restaurant with welcoming staff and a great selection of items on the menu!
The Staff: The staff were friendly and attentive. The wait staff and kitchen staff were very speedy as we received our food very quickly. The wait staff also came by from time to time to make sure we had enough water at our table and if we needed anthing!
Food: We decided to get three items for lunch to share between us. We ordered a plate of Nachos and Guacamole, a Chicken Quesadilla and a Grilled Chicken Caesar Wrap with Fries. The Nachos and Guacamole were very good. Fresh, zesty guac and fresh, crispy nachos! What more could you want! Chicken Caesar Wrap also good. Freshly grilled chicken with a nice caesar dressing and crispy lettuce in the wrap. The chicken quesadilla was ok. It had freshly grilled chicken and cheese in it and the pico de gallo and sour cream were on the side. It was probably what we liked the least however, it wasn't bad by any means.
Alcohol: I ordered a Pacifico beer with our lunch and it was lovely and refreshing! The bar counter had a small selection of beers but had a large selection of liquor and wine.
Restaurant Layout: The restaurant has a bar counter located towards the front of the premises as well as the till. The main seating is located to the right hand side of the premises with more seating to the rear of the premises. The is a good amount of seating with a number of areas to choose from as well as some seating outside at the front of the premises. There is a restroom at the rear and it was large with room to maneuver a wheelchair if you require one. All the areas were clean and the staff were doing a great job keeping the area clean as people came and went.
Overall Opinion: We liked or lunch at Edward's. Its a nice restaurant and there was a nice atmosphere in this restaurant! I recomend stoping by Edward's if you are in the Tribeca area for lunch and drink while taking a break from the July heat in New York! Plus there was a great view of the Freedom Tower if you go across the street...
Read moreOn 1/7/2016 my friends and I went to Edward's after work, to celebrate my co-workers birthday. I've been there before and at that time the service and the food was great! However, this time was not the case. As soon as my co-worker and I got there, we got a stare down by the waiter and the manager- mind you we just got off from work, so we had on our work clothes and we were dressed. In the meantime, we ordered our drinks and food and the staring persisted. I know we should of left because we felt a little uncomfortable but we stayed and endured it all. I made a complaint re the issue to the manager, but he was part of the problem. By the way, I making this complaint not because the color of our skin but my co-worker/friend is gay and they made him and myself feel horrible. In addition, my turkey burger was burnt and the french fries was over cooked. I'm so sad this all happened because I truly did liked this place but the service and my food was horrible and as for my co-worker, he could not eat his food and the waiter acknowledge it, and asked "if there was a problem?" I told him and he was apologetic because we confronted him on his actions but the damage was...
