Now this place I have thoroughly enjoyed from breakfast to dinner you can never go wrong. They have plenty of variety from a frittata to their dinner meals. Lunch is always great to they cater to the details. Truly a busy place the great Diner that understands good food good service requires loyalty and it shows because everyone that works there was a family. From the person who works the cash register and the waitresses to the cooks and the maitre d that greets everyone. No matter what you will always be created by someone friendly hospitable knowledgeable of the menu how to treat the customer. They are regulars in here for a reason day and night time everybody is well known. You think cheers was great. well you come here if you want everybody to know your name. Even if they don't they will always remember you by face. Their food is just great tasty different made with lots of love. If you have no idea where to go and you're in the neighborhood. It's a no-brainer this will always be a number one choice amongst any Diner in Manhattan or the Bronx or Queens or Brooklyn. Let's face it Metro Diner has them all beat. I've been going there for over 20 years. In a time we're after 20 or 30 years businesses disappear. Not this one. They definitely have the recipe how to thrive. That's a good business. The other diners need to take the page out of their book. I'll am partial to this place although to be fair. I have gone to just about every Diner in the city and in all the boroughs. All I can say is there's a reason why I'm partial to Metro they have been proven time and time again consistently better and different. This place will be a landmark for years to come. See you soon for breakfast Metro! Update!! Metro is no longer 24 hours however they are still a staple in this community. They can handle big or small groups like you have never seen. If you have a large group Just speak to the managers and watch the magic. Someday's there may be a line just wait.. its worth it and you may notice or not the line disappear quicker than you expect it. If there is Any place that's deserves your patronage it is metro still serving the community. I Hope you enjoy the food they have been consistent through out the pandemic and still thriving with your support when most places don't exist anymore. Hpe this post helps and if you enjoyed the review. You know what to do👍. Thank you in advance...
Read moreThis diner is by far, one of the best in Manhattan. Great food, generous portions, reasonable service and very fairly priced. More of a breakfast diner than an all day service, although it is available and is open late. The staff are very helpful and friendly, fast, hard workers, including some who have been working here for nearly 2 decades! Definitely a classic, traditional American diner! -Lots of space, even when busy (which is quite often), with many window booths available to be seated in. 100% worth a stop while staying in New York! I've been to New York 6 times and come here for breakfast 95% of the time while doing so, always happy to, no matter how far away we stay! (Catch any train to a main station with links to a 1, 2 or 3 train). 1 (local) train 103rd st. (walk downtown 3 blocks) 2 or 3 (express) train 96th st.(walk uptown 4 blocks) (EXPRESS MAY NOT BE RUNNING ON WEEKENDS) -Express is a better option when staying further uptown or downtown and local if you're staying a short trip away. -To minimize the walking distance by a block. Make sure you get the train going in the correct direction (uptown/downtown) -Don't worry if you don't, just switch platforms and revert. Be sure to make sure the train will stop at 103rd st. +/or 96th st. as sometimes does not due to weekend or holiday line works.
If you're looking for an even cheaper meal, make sure to get there before the breakfast special ends. (6am-11am weekdays, 6am-10am weekends and holidays). Don't worry about lunch as, depending on what you order, it'll fill you up for the...
Read moreIf you are looking for a pleasant meal don’t expect it at the Metro Diner. My wife and I went to have waffles one morning recently and encountered the freakiest waiter of our lives. We are seniors with no axe to grind there until... the waiter somehow misunderstood my upbeat, semiretired mood very poorly and warned me not to sit at his table because his service would be intentionally slow because I was rude TO HIM. In disbelief and confusion, I asked him to repeat what he said, and he did. This all going on while the manager, feet away, looked away. We, of course, walked out, I, cursing the freak every step of the way.
The Diners Metro, Manhattan, & City, all on B’way at 100th, 95th, 90th Sts. respectively are the unfortunate results of absentee ownership. There are even more of them belonging to the same indifferent owners, sort of like the CVS of diners. One can easily get the feeling that the wait staff are independent contractors replacing hospitality with hostility. How is it? - the fish stinks from the head?
We will reconsider reentering these places only when I get the owner’s ear and an apology. I left word for him in one of his other locations. Considering this happened several days ago on Monday 7/2 we are looking forward to the much friendlier Broadway Diner (bet. 101-102 Sts.). The owners are on-site to mind...
