Gotham Single Smash: 1 out of 5 stars. dry, flavorless burger. served after sitting for 5-10 minutes. meh
French fries: 2 out of 5 stars. seasoned fine. sorta crisp. again, served after sitting for 5-10 minutes. mediocre
Service (excluding the cashier who was cool): ZERO outta 5 stars. slow, not very hospitable.
maybe I went on a off day but, I would say Gotham Burger Social Club is 90% hype 10% effort. what seems to be a popular social media account that transformed into a burger joint/s which reviewed/posted about NYC's burger scene and elsewhere that turned into a pop-up then brick-n-mortar restaurant is an overhyped NOTHING BURGER of an eatery.
placed a pickup order to avoid the lines at dinner time. but for some reason the GBSC makes you stand in line with people ordering in order to pickup (maybe I missed the sign stating to go to the order pickup area but there was NO ONE manning that area just two people bagging or putting orders on trays with their backs to customers so there was no way of signaling to them). there seems to be only one cashier on hand when lines swell. the cashier was cool and very chill. he checked whether my order was up and he said it was still in progress. so I stood to the side for maybe 10-15 minutes as I watched orders were assembled... two women assembled all orders and eventually another woman in a headwrap or bandanna (maybe a manager) came to hand out orders, but then left this area for a bit as orders that were assembled piled up. eventually she came back as bags of orders just sat there. got her attention & asked for my order. after showing her my app, displaying my name and order. she seemed insistent on hitting some button in the app stating that I got my order. in all my years of ordering via UberEats and other apps, this was the first time someone wanted to go into my app. with her dirty gloved finger, she hit the button to confirm the pickup order was received. she kept stating she needs to do this to clear the order. the reason why GBSC is probably doing this is probably bc they got scammed by people who picked top their order and then said they didn't get the order for a refund. Stupid solution.
Gotham Single Smash burger review in more detail. very dry and mediocre. Not much flavor and underwhelming for the hype. whatever cheese or sauce added is barely noticeable. the bun is fine. the burger patty is a dry thin chewy piece of meaty cardboard. who knows maybe IF I got my burger on time it wouldn't have been slightly warm and might have been a better eating experience. (I got the to-go order to avoid the lines and to eat the burger as I walked home post-gym)
Service: maybe I caught them on a bad day. nearly everyone seemed miserable except the cashier. the people behind the actual grill seemed to be the hardest working people as they were getting orders out, but the people putting them on tray or in bags were slow, lackadaisical and didn't seem to care. the woman in the headwrap (maybe a manager) was not a good imo. terrible people skills and let orders sit as she disappeared to do whatever around the restaurant. her going through the mental gymnastics of wanting to physically go into my app to click that I got my order was LAME AF and shows this place doesn't think things through in terms of procedure.
the space has a lot of seats. turnover is quick except when orders slow down (which happened while I waited) and then there's a pileup of people who want to sit and eat and people with no food just taking up seats. there's a restroom and the space is relatively well kept.
the GBSC experience is not worth it imo . 7th Street Burgers has the same kind of lines every night and orders go smoothly. moral of the story: GO TO 7TH STREET BURGERS. it really makes me question why this place has so many positive reviews?!? it is telling that every recent negative review with a valid criticism of this place has no response from the...
Read moreEmbarking on a culinary journey through New York City, a metropolis renowned for its vibrant food scene, I had the pleasure of indulging in what can only be described as a transcendental burger experience. Nestled in the heart of the bustling streets lies a gem that serves not just burgers, but a gateway to a gastronomic paradise. This establishment, known for its smash burgers, takes the simple concept of a burger to extraordinary heights, making it unequivocally the best burger I've ever had.
The first bite of the smash burger is not just a taste; it's an initiation into a new level of flavor appreciation. The perfectly seared crust of the patty, a result of the smashing technique, encases the juicy, tender meat within, creating a symphony of textures that is both satisfying and thrilling. Each component, from the soft, yet sturdy bun to the fresh, crisp lettuce and the tangy, homemade sauce, complements the other in perfect harmony. The cheese, meltingly soft, blankets the patty in a creamy embrace, adding a layer of richness that elevates the burger from merely great to sublime.
What sets this place apart, however, is not just the phenomenal taste of its burgers. The soul of the establishment is embodied by its host and owner, whose passion for quality and excellence permeates every aspect of the experience. From the moment you step into the space, you're greeted with a warmth and friendliness that feels both comforting and genuine. The owner's personal commitment to quality is evident in every bite of the food and every detail of the restaurant's ambiance. It's rare to find a place where the excellence of the cuisine is matched by the quality of the interaction with its patrons, but here, it's the standard.
The space itself contributes to the overall enjoyment of the meal. Designed with both aesthetics and comfort in mind, it invites diners to relax and truly savor their dining experience. Whether you're seated at a cozy table inside or enjoying the bustling city view from an outdoor seat, the atmosphere is always inviting and conducive to a memorable meal.
In a city teeming with countless dining options, it's a testament to the exceptional nature of this burger that it stands out so prominently in my mind. It's not just a meal; it's an experience that touches the heart through the stomach. The combination of exquisite flavors, impeccable service, and a welcoming environment makes this burger not just the best I've ever had, but a beacon for what passionate culinary craftsmanship can achieve.
For anyone seeking not just to eat, but to embark on a culinary adventure, this smash burger in New York City is a must-visit destination. It's a place where the simple act of eating a burger becomes an unforgettable experience, leaving you not only satisfied but deeply moved by the dedication and care that goes into every aspect of your meal. It is, without a doubt, a burger that transcends the ordinary, crafted by people who truly love...
Read moreive been wanting try this place for a while, but something told me to wait. To let the anticipation linger and ferment, to let my longing stretch to the point where im foaming at the mouth and clawing at my own skin in a state of madness. Then one day i decide to let the chain loose. I enter the establishment and I am hit with the aroma of burning fats and grease, i hear the grill sizzling and the scraping of spatulas. From the menu, I am able to get a sense of the philosophy of the restaurant; choices were limited but not boring by any means. It had items that you would expect from a burger joint but also some items that seemed a little more adventurous without compromising their main ingredients. Items such as the frickle and chopped cheese taco. on my first round, i ordered the ketchup. this proved to be an exquisite blend of tomato and tomato flavoring, with a delicate balance of corn surup and vinegar. Also the ever so faint hints of salt and other various spices contributed perfectly as the undertones for the ketchup’s favor profile. Despite its impeccable flavor and presentation on an eco friendly paper container, my experience was soiled by the utensil provided to me, the fork. The ketchup did not have enough viscosity to hold its integrity against the scoop of the fork. instead what would happen is that the ketchup would slightly glaze the prongs of the fork, and all that would be left to taste would be a faint shadow of its true flavor. on my second round i ordered the ketchup again, but this time I ordered a side of fries to accompany the ketchup. I figured the fry would be a better utensil for the ketchup rather than the fork. I was giggling eagerly as i received my order, but as I put the first fry into my mouth I was in a pure shock of absolute terror. Their fries unlocked a hidden memory within me, a memory from my adolescence eating the worst set of french fries I have ever eaten in the public school cafeteria. The fries from gotham burger managed to beat out the school lunch fries narrowly but the fact that it was even that close in comparison should be an embarrassment… maybe even a disgrace. How could a burger place with that high of a reputation serve one of the worst set of french fries i have ever eaten? I still wake up screaming and drenched in sweat when i have nightmares about those fries. I may have taken a bite out of the fries, but I feel as if the fries have taken a...
