I dined at wabi nori on friday 9/27 and had such an upsetting experience that I felt I needed to share as I took the time to think about the situation to cool down and reflect but even after a few hours of thinking about it, i realized the way my friend and i were treated was so poorly that it didnt feel right to stay silent.
First of all, my res was at 7:30. I showed up with my friend at 7:40 and we were seated at 7:55. I ordered the crispy tuna rice app and my friend and i each ordered the 5 handroll set. The service was quite slow which we didnt mind bc we were having a good time. However, we had a movie to catch so after handroll 2/5 we asked the waiter if we could pay in advance so as soon as we finish we could leave instead of waiting for the check. So we paid and continued with our meal. After handroll 3/5, the waiter came back to us and asked if we were done bc there was another party and we told him we didnt even get all our food yet. The waiter was noticeably gesturing to the guy making the handroll to speed it up which we thought was a little off putting as he obviously wanted us to leave but we still had 2 more handrolls to go. Then, right as we got served our 5th handroll, the same waiter came back and told us we had to leave bc there was another party. His tone was very rude and he demanded we leave even when we tried to explain that we just got our handroll. The service was slow and we were patiently waiting for our food yet the waiter acted like we were in the wrong and told us we had to leave. I was honestly caught off guard by his treatment and felt really upset by it as my friend and i did nothing wrong and we were even trying to leave quickly as we had a movie to catch but was just waiting for our handrolls to come out. In total, we were only sitting at the bar eating for an hour for our appetizer and main course and the only reason it took that long was bc the courses came out pretty slowly. Also, 1 hour isnt a long time for dinner, if anything thats on the shorter side. The crispy rice spicy tuna was yummy! The other handrolls were fine.
The waiter had glasses and a european accent. I would not come back bc of the poor treatment i experienced. I was really excited to try this new restaurant but was...
Read moreWe had a reservation for three and were seated at a cramped two-top with no room for our food and drinks. When we asked to move, they offered three bar seats, which was not what we booked or wanted for a nice dinner.
The portions were extremely small and completely mismatched to the prices. $11 for ten shishito peppers with a oversized bowl of soy mustard on the side, $18 for four minuscule crispy rice bites that were half the size of anywhere else I’ve seen, and hand roll sets costing $22-$27 that were tiny. The hand rolls were deconstructed and required us to assemble them ourselves (supposedly to keep it crispy). We were given triple the amount of seaweed, but the giant rice clumps with barely any fish did not even fill one sheet properly. It barely filled up half the hand roll (see photo). The ratio of rice, fish, and seaweed made no sense, and the leftover seaweed and ginger felt wasteful. My friend’s vegetable hand roll was literally three paper-thin cucumber slices with a small piece of avocado (insulting at this price point).
When we told this to the server, she told us the manager said the fish is “measured to the correct weight for the seaweed,” which is meaningless when the portions are so unbalanced. The busser repeatedly cleared plates before we were finished, even taking away the seaweed and ginger plate mid-meal. The entire experience felt rushed, unprofessional, and unrefined.
We voiced our displeasure again, noting that we were still hungry and would have to get more food elsewhere. The server offered dessert or drinks, which we declined, and they ultimately took ten percent off the bill. When I tried to settle the check, the server became curt and told me to wait because she “had to check on other tables.”
The fish was fresh, but that is the only positive. This restaurant is overpriced, poorly executed, and does not deliver value. If you want a proper hand roll experience with fair portions and quality service, go to KazuNori or Nami Nori. I will not return and do not...
