I am one of the lucky New Yorkers who calls the Lower East Side home. It's a concentrated dose of the best of everything New York has to offer. We have places like Kisa and Double Chicken Please holding down the titles of some of the best places in New York, the US, and even the world...Supermoon holds its place as the best of the best any bakery would ever have to offer. Lucky enough to score one of their iridescent boxes?...flaunt it. It's a power move. A status check. Walk down the street proudly, box out...because you are that bish. Trouble is, I can never get down the street fast enough and I start going ham on all of their pastries before I get home.
The trouble with a lot of places in New York is you often have to choose. Hype marketing or quality. You rarely get both. Praise be that Supermoon dominates both. The flavours of each pastry and the level of excellence they produce consistently means they don't need design hype like a crutch...it becomes just pure creativity. Honestly, they can just give me the pastries in a trash bag and I would be just as happy.
Rotating their menu monthly, I have yet to come across a flavour I did not love. Thoughtful and creative flavours like yuzu or lavender spring up in croissant form. Passionfruit donuts are a mainstay with their cloud like fluffy sugar donut oozing perfect tangy custard. Sometimes you catch them acting crazy and doing something insanely decadent like a croissant butter croissant. Their cornflake white chocolate cookie deserves every ounce of praise it can get. Since a bit ago, they have expanded into some sexy ass sorbet combinations. Ice cream sandwiches and specials throughout the year, like a thanksgiving pie...which sell out all the time.
They have savoury options too for those who can't have sugar (or the people ((italicized for effect)) who choose ((air quote)) not to eat sugar...((eye roll)). Which are honestly just as perfect. Their ham and cheese croissant is honestly one of the best I had. I also go full french mode on their garlic cheese baguette and will eat it strolling down the street...even when I am not hungry.
10/10 must try. Worth the wait if there is a line. Worth the minimum order for the cool box. Do it for the gram if you want...but each item is worth every penny, so a...
Read moreI really wanted to like this place, but it just did not deliver. It’s not the prettiest looking bakery. On Instagram their page gives you the idea that it’s going to be a super nice and modern place but once you arrive it kind of looks not finished, like they’re still under construction. I arrived around 11am and they open at 10am. First, the line moves extremely slow, they only see one person at a time. Even though I appreciate their precautions, they could be better with their pace. Even with a huge line outside the workers did not seem to be in any rush. I ordered the passion fruit doughnut, 3 cheese danish, sausage roll, butter croissant, ham and cheese croissant, chocolate passion fruit cruffin, bluberry & raspberry danish, the kouing Brûlée croissant and a strawberry doughnut. The passion fruit doughnut was amazing! the dough was soft, chewy and the passion fruit filling was amazing, the chocolate and passion fruit cruffin was delicious I would go back just for the cruffin. The kouign brûlée croissant was also delicious and the crispy bits were great. The blueberry & raspberry danish was also good but nothing special. The strawberry creme doughnut was also good but I wish it had more strawberry jam than creme. The butter croissant was a disappointment, it looked a lot better than it tasted it was just ok, did not taste fresh, I loved how flaky it was and the layering is good but the taste is just not completely there ( maybe I went on a bad day). Their savory food was so disappointing the 3 cheese danish was bland, dry and cold. It sounded and looked so good in the description but it was so bland and dry. So disappointing. The sausage roll was good, the sausage was tasty but it was cold which wasn’t great, if it had been warmer it would’ve been 100x better. The ham and cheese croissant was also disappointing, cold and the ham and cheese barely had any flavor. I feel like most items in this bakery look and sound better than they taste. I wish they made an effort to keep their savory items warm. The service NEEDS to improve although they are very nice they’re way too slow and their lack of efficiency feels like they don’t really care about the customers in line. I would go back but only for the doughnut...
Read moreThis bakehouse exceeded my expectations. When you're going for the first time, it's so small I walked by it twice lol. However, they truly pack a gigantic punch. Serving up modern and popular pastries with some amazingly unexpected twists on the flavor profiles. I came in with my eyes and heart set on the ube eclair, and I am so happy I came at a good time as I've heard they sell out often! When I walked inside the 2 people working both greeted me, and they were so friendly and comfortable that it relaxed me and allowed me to look at my options with no pressure. (For someone with anxiety it's so important to me that a place makes me feel calm and comfy!) when I was ready a nice guy came over and allowed me to pick and got it all ready for me. I went with that eclair I had my sights on, and added on a cookie. Now listen, I love desserts but normally cookies aren't my go to. That cookie changed my mind. It was DELICIOUS. It was the perfect balance of sweet, salty, decadent, and the perfect texture. The miso even gave it an umami flavor profile as well to me. Thick, but still a bit soft, and chewy. Just writing about that cookie makes me crave another lol. It's the perfect cookie. Truly worth going for alone. The ube eclair...what a treat. Inside had the perfect cream with a great ube flavor. When you order something ube you wanna taste that flavor. It's such a distinct flavor that when you want it you truly WANT IT. This did not disappoint. Fresh, and the inside cream was done so well. The shell perfectly made, and honestly I'm just such a fan. This bakery is amazing, and easily has now become a top 5 bakery for me...
