Reviews took me here but the food killed it for me. Had high hopes considering the large desi population in the area. So what went wrong? Ordered chicken karahi and paratha. Karahi wasn't made to order, if that's too much to ask, at least put it in the saucer pan and heat it up to give it some authenticity. Nope. Why the hassle when you got a microwave sitting up there. Put it in there and boom, karahi ready in 2 mins. Nah, I don't think so. And here's the funny part, this mouth watering karahi will cost you $10. But you thought your misery was over, not yet, you still got paratha to be savoured. This roti with some oil on the outside is called paratha in the terms of a hardcore desi restaurant. You gotta be kidding me. Wait for it, this thing disguised under the label paratha will cost you a wasted $3. You might ask, how was the taste. Do you really wanna know? Imagine eating a microwaved karahi, you get the idea. Ambience and environment were never the metrics in my consideration since reviews were clear on this but the 300 something reviews that gave it 4-5 stars must've really liked microwaved food!

Being from South East Asia, I grew up with Indian cuisine. I discovered Haandi through research and acumen. You have to follow your gut, but really the guts and noses of so many local cab drivers in NYC! I chose a Chicken Tikka (was so craving that) and a chicken Biryani. I also had an order of ocra vegetables. Unfortunately I was too late and all the samosas were sold out. It was takeout (or delivery) only at the moment, which worked for me. Helped myself to a free chai latte while I waited. Tip: since you would be bringing it home, I told the nice lady I rather heat the food myself on a stove before she zapped it in the microwave. I have to say it was as authentic as it gets. The chicken tikka was spicy enough for me and tender. The biryani was superb. Altogether a great meal that did not break the bank. Highly highly recommended for those seeking comfort food, or a teleportation portal to Pakistan, India.

This is a popular food place for people from South East Asia. I had the chicken seekh kabab, Dal gosht (mutton with lentils) and chai (South East Asian tea with milk). I was particularly let down by the tea as many people regard it as one of the best $1 tea in nyc. It did not have the creamy texture which is a staple of the traditional chai. The Dal gosht was okay in that the gravy had a lot of depth and the mutton was particularly tender. The only downside was that it did not have proper seasoning. The chicken seekh was really good and given the one dollar difference between 1 or 2 Kababs, I opted for the latter. It was packed with spices and had the perfect bit of seasoning that one can hope for. Easily, the best thing that I had that day.

What ever you do in your life, NEVER EVER go to this place. The people running the place are disgusting, and so is the food. I will try to relay my experiences as it happened.

I went to the upstairs restaurant and asked if I can have half-portions of the different items. I was told no. So I want meat stew and lentils, then I will have to buy a plate of meat stew and a plate of lentils separately, which I agreed to. I wanted to try different items, I ended up buying $8 plates of every item I wanted to try. The food is not fresh. It is microwaved right in front of you. Disgusting. At the end of the day, I only ate little of the food. The owner was surprised when he saw my check and the remnants of what I had left. I told him I only wanted to taste the food and he made me buy a whole plates for that. He then lied and said "oh you should have told me" I would have sold you half portions. Halfway through my meal, I wanted to try the curry, I asked the assistant in the restaurant if I can pay for half a plate, he categorically said no. He then made me buy a separate plate of curry, which took more than 15mins to get to my table even though the food was already prepared. When I was done, I went to pay and the lady taking payment took for ever to even look me in the eyes. It turns out that when you want to make payment you have to go behind the counter towards the kitchen and give them your card, and then stand there and wait for a while and then remind them that they have your card before you can finally get done with payment. This is the most horrible restaurant experience in my entire life.

I know people only write reviews when they have negative things to say, and I know there are some good reviews about this restaurant, but after my experience, I lagged behind to see how they treat other customers, and it was horrible. They don't speak english, they do not understand customers, and they are rude and they are...

I stumbled upon Haandi on Lexington Avenue while looking for a quick lunch near Grand Central, and what a discovery it turned out to be! This modest, no-frills Pakistani eatery is tucked away between storefronts, and you’d easily walk past it — but that would be a huge mistake.

The inside is basic: counter service, a few tables, and a rotating steam tray of daily specials. But the food? Absolutely delicious and soul-satisfying.

I ordered the chicken biryani and aloo gosht (potato and beef curry) with a side of freshly made naan. The biryani was fragrant with long-grain basmati rice, plenty of tender chicken, and just the right amount of heat and spice. The aloo gosht was thick, savory, and spiced so perfectly I found myself licking the spoon. The naan — soft, fluffy, and served hot from the tandoor — tied everything together.

The service is quick, the food is affordable (under $15 for a huge meal), and it feels like a real hidden gem. It’s a favorite among cab drivers and South Asian locals, which is always a good sign.

This place isn’t fancy and probably not where you’d go for a romantic dinner — but if you're in the mood for something filling, flavorful, and authentic, Haandi hits the spot. I’ve gone back twice since my first visit and every dish has been consistently delicious. Highly...

This place is a scam house. The last time i went there, i felt that they overcharged me but since i was with a friend and in a rush, i did not ask too many questions. But today, I was careful and calculated the (rough) total in my head. I was overcharged again and when i asked them about it - the guy at the counter tells me its taxes - when i asked for a detailed breakdown he hands me a piece of paper with the cost of each item (and then the taxes were added afterwards) I immediately notice that he had overcharged me a dollar for the channa (10.99 on the menu and it was 12 on this paper). After explaining to him that he has already charged taxes in the end, he finally concedes that he miscalculated the price. He then proceeds to keep the paper to himself, but then I further point him out that he has overcharged me for chapli kebab as well (3.50 on the menu vs 4.00 on his piece of paper).

I wonder how much money they have overcharged from their customers who are in a rush and don't double check the calculation. My advise is that you should always calculate the prices and double check before paying these scamsters. Now i understand why this place has a below 4 star rating.

This experience really left me a bad taste in my mouth. I can never trust going here again. Such...
